Lost in all of this? Mark Sanchez just signed a 5 year extension with the Jets.

:jnc

The Sanchez deal:

Holy shit, why would you sign him to a 5 year deal after last year? What on earth would possess the Jets management to do that? Weren't they talking about bringing in competition? Or was that just talking heads/fans?

For the new page:

Adam Schefter
Washington Redskins traded three first-round draft picks and a second-round pick to St. Louis for second overall pick in a trade first reported by @JayGlazer.

The Sanchez deal:

Brian Costello ‏

He has an additional $10M in potential escalation so the maximum value of the 3 new years is $50.5M and over the whole deal is $68.25M. #nyj

Wow what a waste. I like RG3 and he seems like he'll be good but that's way too much to move up two spots. :/

Hope he can score us a lot of points because our defense is going to go downhill real fast without an infusion of young talent those picks would have given us.

Wait 3 first round picks? Shit Rams just got a bounty for that pick. It could be worth it for the Skins if RG3 is a stud. Either way good deals for both teams, surprised it was done this early in the off season though.

It's not 3 firsts. That's the wrong way to phrase it. To switch picks in the first round this year, the Redskins gave the Rams #1s in 2013 and 2014, plus their #2 in 2012

So the Skins #2 this year, and their #1 picks in the next two years, just to drop down 4 slots? Yes, please.

Supposedly CLE was offering 3 #1s as well, but I wonder if that included the extra #1 for this year

Good to see Mark locked up long term. I've always believed in him. He's going to lead the Jets to the promised land. You guys are a bunch of haters, I don't even see what's remotely hilarious.

Dear god why no. I hope this is a false report, why, why, why. What the fuck, fuck this team what the hell are they doing god dammit. This is the worst day ever.

I wouldn't be surprised if this Sanchez' extension is just a glorlified restructuring. His cap hit was going to be huge this year. I Don't think it necessarily means the Jets have any more faith in him.

With minimal draft picks now Shanny and Allen need to get their shit together and start making them count. Also Danny needs to open his wallet for some young FAs to complement RG. Mike Wallace please? This team needs a young WR bad.

Mike Wallace would be a great pick up for the Skins.

He's the perfect weapon for RGIII.

...you moved up 4 spots, not 2?

There's like a better than 50% chance Shanahan and Allen would have blown those picks anyway. Id rather get the (potential) franchise QB in place and waiting in the wings for when they are fired and the next, hopefully more competent front office takes over.

Ross Trucker with a solid if sort of short sighted point:

Ross Tucker ‏ @RossTucker

No such thing as giving up too much for truly elite QB. If he's not, everyone's getting fired anyway so who cares?
The Redskins organization and fans who have to endure another 5 years of mediocrity because they don't have any draft picks to build a team with.

I'm honestly shocked Redskins fans are whining about this. It's two first rounders and a second. They would have fucked up the picks anyway. Franchise QBs don't grow on trees.

Four neck surgeries in the past two years. He'll never be at 80% again.

Only time will tell. At this point all we are losing is cap space/money. Don't have to deal off any picks. Yes, it's a gamble, but a relatively low risk one. The team can still build through the draft. If it pays off and he's relatively close to what he was, it will be worth it.

Oh I see, still man your team got one hell of a deal! Now you really can't mess this draft up! Good luck with those pick Rams.

The Pats have spent the last 5 years blowing draft picks and they've remained successful. Why? Because they have a franchise QB and good coaching/system, plus thu have drafted okay in the later rounds. Having no first round picks doesn't make it impossible to add young talent, just harder. If we don't make this trade that just means we keep going 5-11 and 7-9 every year anyway.

I'm not a doctor, I only play one on GAF, but neck problems like that would make me pause if I was a GM.

John Lynch survived. Plus I'm sure GMs/VPs are going to fully check it out, this isn't monopoly money.

What a division as well:

Vick, Eli, Romo, and RGIII. GODDAMN!

Yea you draft a top 1/2 QB only when you have a top 3 pick. Eagles, McNabb. Giants, Eli. Redskins biggest curse has been being mediocre instead of being the worst team. Sure you can trade up if you're only a few spots away, but not like this.....not like this...

Live wire,

The Skins have an average age of 26 years old. They were just recently the oldest team in the league. Old age isn't an issue.

This is the truth. You can shore up roster spots through free agency and later parts of the draft.

Losing three draft picks spread out over a period of three years hurts but it's not some sort of death knell.

Having another season where Rex Grossman is your starting QB with no long term QB you like in place after that is certainly a death knell.

Well if you don't like him send him to Denver in about 4 years.
