Scouring reddit for TB comments:

Yah I don't think anyone else did it. I have the footage, it's like 2 hours long, I am trying to figure out how to best present it.

Talking about his explorable mode footage, apparently they're the only group to have gone through it.

We're talking thousands of participants in the next beta, right? No way that NDA won't be broken.

Tens of thousands.

As for crafting, I don't see why anyone would think it needs an overhaul. It fixes all of the bullshit problems of current crafting systems such as 15 min to smelt ore, a discovery system for finding new recipes which is FAR more entertaining than paying some guy for the same exact recipes everyone else has, no node ganking due to instanced nodes, no crafting failures and a flat XP system rather than the you may or may not get points system, oh and stuff you craft is worthwhile to you right off the bat, not only down the line, then you have complete control over the stats you put onto gear through inscriptions, and crits don't give you better versions of gear, but bonus xp and/or a refund on crafting mats.

They've made crafting fast, unobtrusive, and organic where you obtain a lot of materials from just being out and about and the nodes look pretty damn plentiful with no gathering restrictions. LoTRO's crafting grind made me want to punch something and AION's made me want to kill something, so I'll gladly welcome a more streamlined system that actually allows for full customization of the stats I see on items.

the only thing that will make it worth doing is that you can get better stuff though... there's nothing about it that will be intrinsically fun (ymmv, of course... i know folk who genuinely like dragging stuff into windows and clicking go...)

i might do some crafting if the benefits are great and the amount of fussing with the interface is minimal, but i think i'm more inclined to be a major user of the nifty "here's what i want and what i'll pay" auction features.

Why bring up such bad, bad memories?!

Hoping the Asura starting area is in the next beta. If I'm not in it, would at least love to see videos of it.

You mean you didn't like having to farm for random crafting materials off of mob drops in hopes that you could crit a crit?

lol, I alway ask myself why people put up with such bullshit. Then I remember I used to play wow for a couple of years myself.

You could go through an entire tier of WoW's crafting in the time it takes you to craft a single early game blue in AION.

And then let's not get me started on FFXI's crafting, it makes AION look like WoW. I'd spend 8 hours a day over and over farming Darksteel ore to sell just so I could hopefully make enough to buy single pieces of armor. I knew the Gusgen mines like the back of my hand.

Wow, good thing I stopped playing Aion when my free month was up. Speaking of bullshit to put up with. When I started playing wow and it was the shit, there was this quest for warlocks where you could get some blue robe if you had the materials. I spent a whole day farming some stupid recipe to craft that crap because I didn't know better. I think had that item for a day before it got obsolete :/

With the new scroll of resurrection I'm really itching to play again, there's just something about mmos that really grabs me, and the wait for Guild Wars 2 is almost unbearable :/

I get that "itch" at least once every year.
I get all excited, resub for a month and jump back into WoW, and literally 30 minutes later I am wondering why the fuck i'm doing this shit all over again.

"Bring me 20 lion claws"

Yeah, fuck you, buddy.

Same thing happens to me, I jump on my Resto Shaman who's in BC and I think ugh god I'll either have to grind quests or grind dungeons, neither of which are challenging...and then I quit. Or my Rogue who's like 45 and it's stupidly easy to top the DPS charts with him that I blow through mobs like it's nothing, dungeons are a joke, etc. Only possible challenge then lies in my 85 Pally, but in order to raid I'd have to grind the new dungeons/badges in order to even do them. So all in all it's a giant fuck you.

neither of which are challenging...
^this is the killer right here... i'm not that adverse to grinding, really... but the gameplay needs to be fun, and that wanes rapidly once you're playing on autopilot.

one of my big (pve) gw2 concerns is challenge... they're doing all of this dynamic adjusting of difficulty during fights... it's going to be hard to get right and allow everyone to engage in a challenge level that's appropriate to them.

I think they've really made it possible for the individual to choose their own challenge by fighting mobs higher level than them as we've seen this is a perfectly viable tactic due to the game not being built around hard dice rolls for everything.

my desire to explore everywhere is in direct conflict with my desire to have challenging fights every step of the way in games like this.

not voluntarily weakening my character either... i'm min/maxing the heck out of that toon (with some classy rp flare, of course)

(look... someone's got to be the voice of skepticism and negativity in this thread:)

For crafting I agree. Everything that they have said or shown about crafting I love. The only downfall I see when it comes to crafting is, as Birdchili kind said, they haven't really shown any need to have any of these professions(can't remember what they call them in GW). I am withholding judgement because there may be things they haven't shown with it yet, but so far all they have really said is you can get certain skins this way.

I will still use the system, as most will, if there is no real need. But a lot of people just won't bother and would rather buy stuff than bother with crafting.

I just re-watched the return of the king a couple of days ago and since then have been dying for a high fantasy game. Really looking forward to this, I think it will be the first MMO since age of conan I will be giving a try. I wish Kotor turned out better.

The only online RPG to ever challenge me while leveling has been GW1. Once you got out of pre-searing (level 6) the game basically said "okay, we're going to start killing you now, so play smart". This became extremely apparent once you got to The Breach at level 8 and started fighting Charr.

As for min/maxing, you'll have tons of room to do so, more than other MMOs because you're going to min/max individual builds, not just one min/max that everyone of one spec for a class follows. By the time people hit 80 or shortly thereafter, people will be maxed out statistically whether they want it or not, but it will be up to the individual to know where to change things up to complement their builds.

From what I can gather, crafting is just another way to obtain items you can get in other ways. Like if you want this +2% extra poison damage sigil from a Karma vendor, but you're out of Karma, well just go use those crafting materials and make some. It seems to all come down to choice rather than being forced into any one path. Ignoring crafting systems in games means you're ignoring an avenue for money which I wouldn't advise doing. Typically speaking, crafters make the most money in MMOs so I don't see any reason to ignore it.

most of my mmo experience is with ddo, which is 95% instanced, party-based, designed dungeons full of hand-placed beasts and traps. you get to select the difficulty of every instance when you enter and get incentives to do things on higher levels (yes, this is probably not a "real" mmo).

i can't imagine putting in the hundreds of hours it would take to level up if it's easy the whole way... that sounds horrible.

character builds and min/maxing are one of the biggest appeals of gw2. i'm also really keen to play an mmo where i have less than 100 hotkeys required:)

Completely agree, but going from experience most people would rather just buy stuff than bother making it. Though I am basing this opinion almost purely on WoW where near the end of an expansion the economy sucks to where everyone just has tons of gold and nothing to spend it on. I had guild mates who would go buy the gems they needed for gear when they had max alchemy and almost all epic gem cuts.

That's because WoW's economy is horribly designed with constantly increasing inflation which increases the cost of even the most basic of items to skyrocket to such ridiculous prices that no new player can possibly afford. In that game crafting was good for making bags prior to the cap and then everything else was centered around making the items that gave you the most amount of points for the least amount of materials because none of it matter until you maxed it out. Occasionaly you might have been able to make a piece of armor/weapon that was worthwhile to you, but 9/10 your quest/dungeon stuff was better. I just looked the other day with my free 7 days and 20 slot bags are 300 gold each and that is STUPID. Obviously supply is low so the price jumps up and couple that with the fact that people are lazy and you pay stupidly high prices for old items.

Thankfully giving everyone the ability to gather crafting materials and a lot of mats coming from drops, people always being in every area of the game even after the cap, AND a global marketplace will keep supply/demand in check so that crap doesn't happen.

Armor/weapon crafters will probably fare pretty well just due to cosmetics alone. I'm really looking forward to crafting.

Global economy should help with this a ton. Hopefully they don't go back on the repair cost also, and maybe add another money sink or too.

They won't go back on it, money sinks are an absolute necessity in an MMO otherwise money flows freely as it's created far faster than it's spent. ANet knows this and like everything else they've done, all design decisions seem to be all-encompassing rather than detached and disconnected features that don't mesh well with the overall game.

For the most part...
downed state...

But I know I'm one of the few on this one. No need to get back into that whole debate. :lol

I hate it when someone as big as TB makes such stupid mistakes in their videos, he repeatedly mistakes a spear for a harpoon gun, even after describing the skills as using a spear he calls it a harpoon gun! WTF?!

It's so bizarrely stupid.

I like TB overall but when he can't get really obvious stuff correct, it's rather worrying.

In his defense he wasn't the one playing.

So based on this video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zal7eTVSxZc&feature=g-all-u&context=G20d27beFAAAAAAAAAAA

With 2 siege golems and a handful of people it'll take a bit over 3 min to take down a normal Tower door, why did ANet listen to the press again? 3 minutes isn't exactly a long time. This is what happens when people actually use siege weapons instead of hitting a door with their sword and then complaining that it takes forever to take it down, DERP.

do you guys think we'll get some kind of release date window or something at pax? i sure hope we do...im still sticking with a late may / early june window...what do you guys think?

Didn't they say they decreased the rate/strength of repairing the door? The tower being attacked there was empty. From my understanding in the beta one or two people repairing the door could keep it up almost indefinitely.

They decreased it based on feedback, no idea if it had been put in at this point. As far as defenders go, that's the thing, you gotta have people on the door, people building the siege weapons, people protecting the siege weapons, and people killing off and choking the enemy supply routes all at the same time so they can't defend their keep/tower from within.

Since WvW is supposed to have a ton of people, I think the health of the door will be increased for the next beta.

There were too few people who were in the beta to make it worthwhile, so it might go back to "normal".

Yeah I realise that, but is it really that easy to mix up a harpoon gun and a freaking spear? They hardly look that similar and he obviously looked up the abilities somehow when he was describing them using the word "spear". It just comes across as really really dumb, and I know he isn't (mostly).

Dude. Sounds like GW2Guru talk man. It's just a mix up, he just came off a flu dude.

Any videos of people defending a keep? What do we know about your options when playing defense? Can a thief's pistols fire from the top of a keep onto people trying to break in?

You can use the embedded siege weapons to fire upon people literally miles away. There was a video where someone was talking about they were about to control one and siege enemies who were coming close to the keep. It was awesome.

You can see here some people defending a keep from the attackers perspective, I've never seen a real keep defense from that perspective sadly. I really don' t think there was enough people to make up a real WvW environment.

I must have missed this:

Q: With the largest participation, is it just the number or the most percentage of the guild participating?

A: it's based on active participation. If you bring all of your 20 member guild and another 1000 person guild only brings 15 people to the fight, as long as all 20 of your people kill guards or help take the location in some fashion, you will get first priority for the claim.

From the Team Legacy Braeden Shosa interview at Gamescom:

What is the maximum number of people in a guild?

At the moment there is no hard limit
, but if ever decide to create a limit, it will be larger than the GW1 limit.

I knew it was gonna be bigger than what WoW had. While no hard cap is in, I'm thinking about it may not be that much more than 1,000.
