Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

What did they change about Sniper? Don't see him on the patch notes.

Edit: You guys talking about the Dota 1 patch right?

Edit 2: Also tried out mid Axe today. Milk was right, he is good!

I would expect a lot of balance changes to reflect Dota 2 heavily since Valve can actually get telemetry data for that, whereas IceFrog has to guess a lot more with Dota 1.

The amount of data valve has for anything (steam, tf2, dota 2) just blows my mind even imagining it. I'd love to just sift through some of that stuff.

Ghost Scepter?

Eh, you could just use it while waiting for your hook/ult cooldowns against a hard hitting carry. I dunno, the best I could think of was Poor Man's Shield, but even then the damage block would be mildly decent and the agi would give you a minor minor buff to attack speed and armor and since it costs so little and could be built easily in a side shop during a gank it wouldn't be AS bad.

Its just, comparing cost to utility on SnY for pudge, its like the most expensive item that gives him the least benefits.

just got the game like 2 days ago and fuck im i rust i havent played since maybe 6.3X. im having trouble with how items work in this game, like i remember i couldnt have sange and yasha + vladimir cause they were attack modifiers or something and i think i can have them now. BTW any games going on right now, i really want to get at least good at the game.

I was planning on going to bed, but fuckyespatchnotes

Its a crappy orb in a fight. Alright, Crystal Maiden Has Caustic Finale on her, when we kill her within 8 seconds of Sandking last auto attacking her, anyone in 400 range will take 200 magic damage, that will show 'em!

I really think it should just be a buff placer and not an orb, and allow Sand King to also have a normal Life Steal item, Desolator, Orb of Venom, or Skadi.
What it comes down to is that SK doesn't need a teamfight-oriented orb, his burrowstrike and epicenter are already devastating in that role. Finale is brilliant in its role (even moreso with 6.73 and the 8 second duration, it's child's play to nuke entire creep waves for free), it's a unique skill, there's just no compelling reason to replace it. As for allowing other orbs to stack on it, Sand King doesn't need the buff. He's a dynamite teamfighting, ganking, and pushing hero, with a stationary invis/pushing/stun-dodging skill on top of it all. The Finale buff and the buff on Epicenter's slow made him even better, he's good as-is for now.

Just got into the beta a couple of days ago and I have been watching a lot of videos and streams to get used to the flow of the game. Being a total MOBA/Dota noob I have been reading up and watching a lot of video on the different heroes before even playing my first game. So with that said I have decided that I am going to go with a ganker hero class just to get my feet wet. Any recommendations for a noob like me? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Pudge since he's super easy. Haven't met one person who has missed his hooks.

On a serious note, stay away from Pudge!!! Someone who is relatively easy would be blood seeker. He can regenerate health by killing creeps.

Also, I wouldn't recommend playing bots. They're so bad. But everyone else will disagree with me and you could take their word for it.

I played Dragon knight as my first hero, and went 0/7. Now look at me, I can finally go 0/7/1 :D

oh my god i have been in dota 2 withdrawal while at gdc someone hold me

c'mon c'mon valve do something awesome next week please... i was hoping to come back to something awesome, but instead i get... BAH

Lion or Vengeful Spirit. Extremely simple heroes, extremely useful supports, fairly capable gankers.

I installed Dota 2 on my laptop but I can't get it to launch. Screen goes black, then it crashes. Any advice? I already tried re-installing and verified the cache.

Shadow Fiend
- Necromastery now gives 6 souls for killing a hero (instead of 1)
- Necromastery soul count increased from 8/16/24/32 to 12/20/28/36
Storm Spirit
- Ball Lightning now properly dodges projectiles
Viper
- Poison Attack damage increased from 6/12/18/24 to 10/16/22/28
- Fixed Poison Attack damage not being lethal
Slot these under "carries I want to see played more often".

Batrider
Flame Break is now a targeted AoE spell
[It no longer explodes on the first unit in a path. It travels towards the targeted destination and does its effect there. Projectile speed 900 (instead of 750)]
I've scarcely played Batrider, but I've noticed the... unwieldiness of Flame Break. Sounds like the change will make this magnitudes easier to land effectively, which is great for the positional play it allows (impeding a fleeing target, breaking channels like Black Hole or Shackles through crowds).

Clockwerk
- Power Cogs HP/Mana drain increased from 55/70/85/100 to 60/90/120/150
Clock was one of the highlight heroes of the International for me, would love to see more of him.

Crystal Maiden
- Freezing Field AoE increased by 100 (Explosion AoE adjusted to keep damage probabilities equivalate)
A great ultimate that doesn't see enough use, the small buff is most welcome.

Dark Seer
- Wall of Replica illusions take 300% damage (up from 250%)
- Wall of Replica Aghanim bonus no longer creates allied illusions
- Wall of Replica Aghanim bonus now increases illusion damage from 70/80/90 to 100/120/140% instead
Well, as much as I love Dark Seer, this seemed more or less inevitable. Slightly squishier illusions, half as much chaos, but the wall is still ridiculously powerful (especially against a lineup with a carry). Fights taken inside the wall are still a profoundly terrible idea, and he's still probably a hero worth banning.

Drow Ranger
- Silence AoE increased from 275 to 300
Small but welcome buff, given how frequently it amounts to a single target silence.

Enigma
- Black hole now prevents heroes being Forced out with Force Staff
This is a fairly significant buff, especially in higher levels of play. Counterpicks like Vengeful Spirit and Beastmaster will probably get a boost to their popularity.

Furion
- Wrath of Nature manacost increased from 150/175/200 to 150/200/250
- Teleportation manacost no longer decreases per level (constant 50)
- Removed Unexplored Fog of War
More expensive lane control in the early game, but arguably room for more effective ganking and scouting. Still a really powerful hero

Invoker
- Chaos Meteor damage increased from 80+Exort*30 to 80+Exort*35
- Chaos Meteor land time decreased from 1.5 to 1.3
- EMP can no longer hit Invulnerable/Tornadoed units
- EMP cooldown increased from 25 to 30 seconds
- Sun Strike damage type changed from Magical to Pure
- Sun Strike now reveals the area it will hit before the damage impact
- Tornado cooldown increased from 25 to 30 seconds
- Tornado Damage decreased from 77.5+(Wex+Quas)*23 to 70+(Wex+Quas)*20
If this is what it takes to make the ubiquitous quas-wex/tornado-emp build optional and not compulsory, this will shape up to be a great change. Said combo requiring more attention to detail and timing is similarly welcome.

Juggernaut
- Omnislash now gives Juggernaut 200 flying vision during its duration
So juking into trees or uphill won't save you from further jumps?

Lion
- Voodoo cooldown increased from 13 to 15
- Voodoo manacost increased from 110/140/170/200 to 125/150/175/200
- Voodoo duration increased from 1.25/2/2.75/3.5 to 1.75/2.5/3.25/4
- Range creeps mana pool increased from 300 to 500
Hex now lasts half a second longer than a Scythe of Vyse, Lion now has more mana to steal from ranged creeps. Modest buffs, but he could use them given his place under the sun has seemingly been utterly cannibalized between things like Sheepsticks and Shadow Shamans.

Morphling
- Morph passively grants 3/4/5/6 agility and strength
- Wave Form now properly dodges projectiles
Ethereal Blade
- Ether Blast slow increased from 60% to 80%
Another highlight hero from the International, and I must say I love the buffs being handed out to the glass cannons (even if that's conditional, as with Morphling). Can't wait to see more of him, even if playing him myself feels like trying to walk on the ceiling with my elbows.

Priestess of the Moon
- Moonlight Shadow cooldown decreased from 180/160/140 to 160/140/120
I like this buff a great deal, Mirana's ult is one of the strongest initiation skills in the game and this is a nice little buff to her teamfight contribution. Only downside is that it's very expensive to use early.

Puck
- Ethereal Jaunt now dodges projectiles
- Phase Shift autocast removed
- Phase Shift manacost removed
- Phase Shift level 4 duration increased from 3 to 3.25 seconds
- Aghanim Upgraded Dream Coil no longer increases the manacost from the base spell
Another series of tweaks and buffs I like. More emphasis on timing and less on autocast.

Pugna
- Decrepify cast range increased from 550/600/650/700 to 700
- Life Drain damage increased from 100/150/200 to 120/160/200 (with Aghanim's from 175/225/275 to 180/240/300)
Small buffs that I *surprise* like. Improves his early and midgame impact, which is critical time for him given his need for some levels and money.

Animal Courier
- Courier cost decreased from 170 to 150
Flying Courier
- Flying Courier cost increased from 200 to 220
Tranquil Boots
- Can now be disassembled
- Damage instances before breaking increased from 3 to 4
- Rejuvenate heal increased from 150 to 170
Indirect buffs to support heroes, which is fantastic. More money and options all around.

Veil of Discord
- Discord duration increased from 15 to 20 seconds
An extra 5 seconds is nice, but I don't know if it'll be enough to nudge it into a mainstream role. Situationally, 20 seconds of 25% magic damage amplification with a downtime of only 10 seconds, you could really milk that for a lot of additional hurt.

I can't wait to see the Shadow Fiend, Mirana, and Puck changes in Dota 2. Really looking forward to those. Also I'm glad they change the EMP+Tornado thing.

I think SF was already viable but he needs to be in a babysit lane as a fast farming pusher and mid game damage dealer. People still stuck on solo mid, which he will never be a good fit for again cause of smoke and a lack of disables or escapes.

SEA is the most exciting meta. Crazy ganking, almost to the point of ignoring towers for a chance to kill.

Although as I say that they pick Spectre lololol

I installed Dota 2 on my laptop but I can't get it to launch. Screen goes black, then it crashes. Any advice? I already tried re-installing and verified the cache.

Try putting this as a launch option -nod3d9ex . I had the same problem and this solved it for me, not quite sure what it disables though. Apparently its some thing they put into to help the game alt-tab better.

That invoker buff/nerf is something I can agree with. Nice to see some changes to kunkka, morph, and ogre magi (pumped for this one). Puck's changes sound good to, I can finally get some appreciation for my dodges instead of people calling it auto cast :(.

Pucks autocast was good in some occasions, when you have low life going back to base and dosent want to get killed by zeus ulti for example. Was a kind of a nerf for a underpowered hero :/

Even better though, he got an indirect buff, with the removal of unexplored fog!

I dont want to live in this world anymore

I use the same mouse *fist bump*, but I haven't mapped any items to space. I'm going to do that. I have been using those two side buttons though and they work wonders.
