Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

guys, I have read that Invoker is the most challenging of heroes, with arguably the highest upside. I've done some guide reading and looked over everything at that Dota2 wiki.

Is Invoker recommended only for master/expert-level players because of the challenge of keeping all of his custom spells straight in your head and bringing them out at the right time? I found it interesting that he has 10 spells because with the Invokers I've played with, I would have only assumed he had Wex spells.

I think I'd like to give him a try next, as I'm kinda bored with the usual leftclick2kill heroes but worry about failing to micromanage well with someone like Chen. If anyone has tips (other than memorizing the 10 spells), I'd greatly appreciate them, as always.

No, I personally think that Invoker's difficulty is overstated. Sure, he is a lot more challenging mechanically than most other heroes, but he's pretty straight forward otherwise.

I would definitely recommend playing one or two games against bots and spam spells so you get the muscle memory down.

This so hard. Even a subpar Invoker player who only utilizes 3 spells (Cold Snap, EMP, Tornado) can be absolutely devastating. Eventually if you incorporate Ghost Walk into your muscle memory you'll be absolutely fine.

The only times I have ever been overwhelmed by Invoker was during team fights with a Scepter, and I am trying to EMP, Tornado, Meteor, Deafening, Cold Snap, Ice Wall, and micromanage Forge Spirits.

The one who said: "oh this..............SPIDER is almost dying" when he was talking about the broodmother?

Possibly. Talking about the main dude, not the one skyping in who sounded like he was in a tunnel full of dicks.

I just liked his voice better and at a certain point he was talking strategy in a concise (i'm sure dumbed down to hell) way. Tobi wan is really great at the team fights no question but the other 90% of the game something about him grates me the wrong way. And barring the lmfao his music selection sucks :P

understood. thank you, sir. off to play some bots!

These guys just screams LoL/HoN-players to me, I think they once said "oh Vengeful Spirit is a agi hero, she is probably gonna carry then".

Invoker is a LOT easier with the consistent spell hotkey change.

Most challenging hero will probably remain to be Meepo.

Is there a way to map camera scroll to mouse wheel? (scrolling up/down for vertical and clicking mouse wheel to left/right for horizontal scrolling?)

So who are the best players in the gaf community?

my buddy likes to challenge them some time soon. i only post this as he waits for his neogaf account to activate. i think his steam nickname is "I <3 bumblebees" or something

I don't really know what i'm talking about, but from my experience Milkman is the only person on gaf I've seen who really knows what he is doing*

*when not playing clinks

There is plenty of people, you probably just haven't played with them. I would name them but they change their steam names so damn much.

I enjoy playing with checkyeah and nemesis, when I played a few games with kotoko (now he is assumed to be meeru) he was good at the game.

I'm the best Axe on GAF.

Not sure why I bother to pick Brood when nobody bothers to put pressure on the other lanes when I'm trying to push to a tier 3. We didn't lose just because of the Furion, but it didn't help.

This. I have a bunch of people from gaf on my steam friends and I always know who's dota 2 gaf because it's some name I've never heard of because it's changed 9 times in the last few days. Y'all need to quit it.

e: but i do appreciate you actually spelling "y'all" correctly unlike those idiots wot spell it "ya'll"

Needed more for the teamfights is what I'm saying, one cheap disable thrown her way and she melts after a roar or silence. Needed more money for a BKB (won't save her from the roar, but it would nonetheless provide options) or some tanky items to be jumping into the middle of a fight in that manner. Of the times it was attempted, it created one success that came within a hair's breadth of backfiring. The failed attempts far outnumbered it.

I'm joking around. Mineski is the craziest team in SEA. High risk, high reward. Not really a good idea in general. But very hilarious.

I like this commentator from Dota2Replays#1 better than TobiWan.

They have absolutely no understanding of the metagame or any of the high level players. He may try to talk about strategy more, but he is actually wrong when he talks about it half of the time. Lumines and the premier league guys are similar but for him the problem is that they is so in tune with the dota 1 meta game (which is pretty much now all china) that they sometimes make incorrect assumptions about dota 2 strategies.

Tobi's casting may go a bit overboard focusing on the moment to moment action, but he actually has a far better understanding of dota 2 than the other casters, and he usually gets a co-commentator that knows MORE than him, instead of the other guys who get somebody that knows less and just makes incorrect assumptions all the time.

They do need to add the ability to either override names locally or add tags so I can work out who is calling themselves what this week.

Yeah, Tobi and Synderen (or Maelk) are probably my favourite casters. Excellent mix between good casting ability and strategy insight.

My understanding of the game is at such an elementary level that I'm mostly looking for entertainment (much like the beginnings of my sc2 watching) and any strategy explanations are just a plus. Tobi-wan just talks and talks and talks and it never seems to go anywhere other than wasting time till the next team fight. I don't know if this is my ears filtering out all the talk that I don't really understand fully yet, or if his voice just doesn't fit in my head right.

You can add tags to friends! Just click the little arrow next to their name and the last option in the drop down is Tag As.

Than the dota2replay guys? Sure, they are transfering from hon and arent pro players or long time dota casters. But Tobi is still pure play by play and also doesnt seem to have much knowledge of the Asian scene, which is why he sometimes wrongfully attributes certains strats and such to the Euro scene or such things. His pro commentators have this knowledge. Luminous also does but he isnt as good at play by play. Tobi has decent knowledge of the Euro scene though.
