I'm honestly not sure what to think about it. It hovers right on the line between creative genius and wanton self-indulgence in randomness. There are impressive scenes, both of the tender and touching variety and of the vibrant and extravagant variety, but I'm not sure they gelled into a coherent whole. The pacing is kind of wonky -
the ascent out of the whale's mouth
went on way too long, for instance.

Thanks, Yuasa.

I actually felt that the ascent was the scene to wrap the whole movie up and drive the theme home--
that it takes raw work/struggling to get where you want to.
It being long and arduous, with the difficulty escalating as it progressed, helping that.

Inu x Boku is bad.

Also hello anime gaf. Is Xam'd any good?

It's pretty. Has a pretty good OST, from what I can remember.

The hit psychosexual thriller.

I wonder if the bonus scenes are MORE RAPE.

Holy shit, they're really making quite a bold move by going with that tagline. I guess no-one told the marketing person that 'psychosexual' doesn't mean "lots of rape".

The first half isn't bad, but the second half becomes an unrecognizable trainwreck of subplots that don't have nearly enough time to resolve themselves. I wouldn't recommend it.

I just found it amazing to see people using
jetplanes, ocean liners, and even water molecules
as stepping stones to escape from it.

I see, well thanks. Maybe I'll watch the first half! The animation is nice yeah, and a good OST is a bonus.

Also just watched some Alien Nine OVAs and meh. Maybe I'll keep watching inu x boku since I only bothered with the first two episodes.

I can only assume money is involved.
I don't see how more money should be involved, because Mr. Yoshinari is probably an in-house worker of Production I.G now...
you've got to admit it, people

ponpo, are you making for yourself those pixel-art avatars? Those are cool! I remember you also had one of Nono recently...

I actually really like the first half. On it's own it's one of my favourite things to come out of BONES but, as has been said above, they had no idea where they were going or why and the second half was a glorious mess.

Only BONES thing I've seen is E7 and even then I stopped since I don't think I've ever seen a series that's longer than 24 eps (last exile) and Xam'd is 26 IIRC.

Forget it I'll just look at screencaps and listen to the OST 。・゚・(ノД`)・゚・。

Nah, the first two episodes alone are great and worth watching. See if you want to continue after that.

[Rinne no Lagrange - 10]

I think that this episode was an improvement over what we've been served in the last couple of weeks, but that's really not saying much. It succeeded in evolving the relationship of the central trio, which is most certainly a good thing.

Every thing else - and by that I mean the 'serious stuff' - was as bland and forgettable as ever. There can't really be any serious dramatic beats to your story when your main cast is, well, the cast in this show. The 'antagonists' aren't threatening, their true motivations are unclear, their backstory is as yet unexplained and their characteristics range from silly to boring.

Another thing that bothers me is how people in the town, and the world, react to attacks by alien robots from out of space. By which I mean they don't react. The world doesn't seem to care. Where's the media? The scientists? The army? People curious about the existence of extraterrestrial life?

I'd forgotten that they're basically at the same level of an OVA in terms of their presentation. They're certainly worth watching just for the superb craftsmanship on display.

Poor Lan, hahaha.

Madoka was about to pull a Yomi moment back there. Dat NTR.

And next week we finally get some Vox goodness. About time.

Rinne seems to enjoy dragging Lan through the dirt a lot.
She seems miserable in most pictures people post. Is she really like that from episode 8 on?

Nah, she's fine. She's much better with herself now than she was in the first episodes.

[Gintama 148-149]

Even when it's quite clear that they're going for the troll ending because, well, it's Gintama, I still enjoy the ride. Apart from a few rough spots here and there I'm surprised that the show can stay at this level when it's been running for so long. The consistency of the writing is notable.

That's good. I was getting worried that they were just throwing her into the background to the wolves.
How much Maru is there? that's the other important question.

Kamogawa's the chillest place on the planet. Alien invasion? Go away, I'm gardening. Potentially world-ending glowy things falling from the sky? Whatever, let's go fondle each others' breasts in the tide pool under the moonlight. Maybe the problem isn't them, it's the rest of the world and their uptight ways.

This show is exactly what happens when you tell somebody with no grasp on the concept of cool to make a series defined by the Rule of Cool (this is the only explanation for most of Rachel's clothing, I think.) There winds up being something addictive about it, since events can just randomly make a ninety degree turn at any point. Relatively strong finish to episode 12--it may have happened 'just because' but at least a bunch of stuff happened--followed by a meh recap episode, and then episode 14 which took an unexpected turn for the
rapey, both with comical old guy prisoners threatening to rape the one girl, and Vetti's inappropriate bedroom shenanigans with Michel.

Biggest hope for the back half of the series is somebody gets Glasses Boy a damned cord for his glasses because, dude, really.

The extremely thinly veiled implication is that Ralph is Vetti's boy toy.

I mostly couldn't decide if the show thought it was being all gender-subversive with the names, or what; also the length of time it took me to realize
Michel was supposed to be a guy
had me second-guessing Ralph.

It's a shame that
Pop won't be sticking around
. He could have been the series' Tuxedo Mask to make the Sailor Moon parallels perfect, down to his use of "saraba da".
He's overpowered and can easily take down Akanbe with almost no assistance, and Cures have traditionally not needed to get bailed out of every bad situation like the Sailor Senshi, so I knew he probably couldn't be a permanent character.
The irony of saying that is that Tuxedo Mask really doesn't do much.

I just realised why they've but 'bonus scenes' in there. It's because they can then put "125 minutes" on the back of the box, rather than just "69 minutes" - because that would look like a really short movie.

He's more about preventing things that are about to happen than actually taking action himself.
I like to joke about Cures being better in battle than Sailor Senshi, I never really mean it through.

It's very classy how the series simultaneously
tries to treat one instance of rape seriously while making rape jokes in another plotline.

I'm sure the creators are happy that they managed to fool someone with that.

Nothing will ever top the amusing character of Welldone the Pussyhand.

I am completely and utterly baffled every time I see the phrase Welldone the Pussyhand. What does it mean? Who created that combination of words? why?

I'm not sure I want the answers.

Just wait until you see some of the creative high spots of the next season. That popularity poll arc...

It really sounds like the name of a rejected Trigun villain. I really need to watch Mardock.

Most of the names in the movie are pretty glorious though. Medium the Fingernail, Rare the Hair, Œufcoque Penteano, Dimsdale Boiled, Mincemeat the Wink.
I kind of got used to names like that from watching Bond movies.
It's really not much worse.
Bond ain't got shit on this.

Oh dear, I think poor ghostlightning has snapped.
Turn A aside, Gundam AGE is becoming the best AU Gundam TV show. Will it become better than G Gundam? In some ways it already is.

I mean, I LOVE G Gundam don't get me wrong. But I do spend a lot of time clawing my eyes out every dumb episode (read: every episode)

Fans and ragers alike have been consistently wrong about Gundam AGE. I think I need 7th Level Access to Veda to speculate accurately LOL.

G Gundam is awesome, but it's very dumb and ugly. AGE knows what it's doing and wins at it.
Sad times.

You know, myself and several others have carefully edited our posts for months to conceal that spoiler.
