Mika, is he the best pop star since Madonna?

Seriously. Some Gaffers know no boundaries when it comes to annoying people.

Pop star-GAF love rushing into threads and making them about (insert pop star's name here) via a ridiculous GIF flood. It's not OP's fault, some people just can't control themselves.

A Mika thread would've gone over pretty well if the Madonna comparison had not been made.

He's too much of a twink for me to fuck. You can have. :)

Hooray! :D Dat Jew-fro.

Hm this thread needs more Inthezone

EDIT: WAIT....... I KNOW someone didn't come for Mariah and called her talentless... I HOPE TO GOD..... LORDT let me get a drink. I am embrarassed for whoever tried it because my inner lamb has been tested. Coming for Mariah will get you scalped bald. Don't get DRAGGED.

Oh, yeah. I wasn't talking about the OP.

I can't believe people say Gaga has no talent. All you have to do is watch her instrumental version of one of her pop songs. She can play an instrument and she can sing. Whether you like her or her music is one thing but to say she has no talent as a vocalist is simply wrong.

Don't waste your time Hun. People like to call Pop tarts talentless as was demonstrated earlier by someone calling Mariah talentless. I'm so done.

This has to be one of the worst threads ever. It's amazing how quickly it degenerated into horrible, horrible gifs.

As to the question in the OP. Never really listened to much from Mika, but I always did like Grace Kelly.

The thread degenerated because Mika is a one hit wonder so far and not a bonaifde popstar, let alone the best pop star after Madonna. You've got the OP to blame for that.

"One-hit wonder"? And what hit is that, may I ask?

I don't understand. I don't think that i've heard his voice in any of those videos. Anyone have a video of his voice without $250k worth of equipment behind it?

Never even heard of this person before this thread. Doesn't that kind of invalidate his chances of being the best pop star since whoever considering he's not even well known?

Best doesn't mean most widely known. It just means best.

Kinda surprised he isn't more well known.

Sorry PopGAF, some of you are good friends, but....

I'd listen to Mika over Madonna any day of the week and my musical taste is all that matters to me.

When mention his name gets you a resounding "huh", the person should probably not be labeled a pop star. As it literally means popular star...

This sums it up perfectly.

Am I a horrible person for thinking that people should be banned for a few weeks if they can't demonstrate an understanding of really basic, widely-appreciated terms (like, say, "popular" or "star")?

So because you've never heard of him, Mika isn't a star? Gotcha.

Mika is good, for the most part. He's talented, too. As much as Gaga or any pop singer who has a good voice and can play an instrument, anyway.

This thread is insulting, though. People come to talk about Mika and everyone is shitting up the thread with gifs and a completely off-topic discussion about other pop icons.

Pop-GAF can be so annoying. I'm willing to say that I'm actually glad that Mika hasn't broken through as a pop star. Him becoming peoples' "fave" would do him a disservice, honestly.

Mika is a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie.

Madonna is a Thin Mint.

Michael Jackson is a shut off conveyor belt of freshly baked peanut butter cookies baked with Reese's peanut butter chips, peanuts, smothered in JIF PB and peanut syrup. All stacked onto another one of these cookies with more PB in the middle.

Stop eating sweets.

I always thought Mika should have been the new lead singer for Queen, and not that American Idol fool.

Hell no. Freddie had balls. He was tough. As much as I love Mika's voice, he could not have pulled off half of Queen's songs from a persona aspect.

Lambert has far more of a chance, and fuller voice at the high end, just like Freddie. Mika's high notes are falsetto/head voice.

Sis..... SIS... lmfao the fact that you didn't use smilies............... x__x

Oh Kyon~ :3 I know you hate my ass but you are -gold- in this thread.

As much as I luv Mika.... Truth bombs all up in this bitch =\ He's got a -wonderful- head voice (just like me!), but he has no full voice above high C or so. At all. And it falters near that point =\

"Over My Shoulder" is just an example of how wonderful his falsetto is~ :3 :3 :3 Most of this sounds like full. It's not. I only wish my headvoice could be this beautiful.... eventhough I can sing most of that full despite being a bass 2 >.>

Hamburglar wasn't kidding, holy shit.
He's Spilt the truth tea, as attention seeking, and unoriginal as Gagita is she has great artistry and vocal talents. Are you Pressed? Bothered? Upset? Because if you are.... prepare several seats to sit on.

I disagree; not with your assessment of Mika (who I don't know that well, anyway), but Lambert / Mercury, since I am anti-fan to the idea of Lambert covering Queen, for several reasons.

Let's start with Mercury's highs:

The Vocal Range of Freddie Mercury: (G1-)C♯2-F5(-F6) (ignore the range suggested; it's a bunch of range wankery to count spoken notes or vocal fry notes). F2 - F5 (D6) is more reasonable)

And then listen to Lambert

Adam Lambert - Vocal Showcase (Note by Note, Studio and Live)
Adam Lambert vs. Kelly Clarkson (Note By Note LIVE)
Adam Lambert Compared to Whitney , Celine , Aretha

Do you notice the difference? He finds it much, much easier to access those fifth octave notes - especially around C5 - E5 it sounds as natural for him as it does for the women. Freddie, meanwhile, has a much different sound to his modal highs. He almost never went for high notes live, due to his vocal nodules. I asked the proprietor of this rather massive collection (over 260 concerts) of Queen bootlegs what the highest full voice note he'd heard Freddie do live; I can't remember if he said C#5 or D5, but it was very, very low. Freddie regularly dodged C5s and even B4s in his songs. Lambert's tosses off D5s and higher like they're going out of style.

So while they have a similar overall range, I think that their voices naturally sit at much different places and their vocal profiles are very different; Freddie's voice sits lower, is heavier, is darker and more baritonal, struggles with high notes and has a very strong and powerful lower register and a beautiful falsetto with a lot of top range; Adam's voice is almost alto-esque where he normally sings, has a higher tenor sound, seems to find high notes about as easy as women do, can go nearly as low as Freddie in studio (but I don't think he's gone below C3-ish live), and while his falsetto is perfectly serviceable, he hasn't displayed the same sort of virtuoso ability that Mercury has.

I think that the fact that they are both flamboyant singers with a lot of skill makes people ignore the fact that they're really not all that similar when you look at their singing. I've liked Adam's voice from the beginning, but when he's singing songs written for Freddie's voice, it just sounds wrong. Listen to that EMA performance again - he's got this quarter-tone goat vibrato going on (trying to make his voice bigger?), he's off-pitch in random spots all over the place, he sings completely off key when he goes for Eb5s instead of D5s in The Show Must Go On, etc. He just doesn't sound right at all on the song. I don't see why anyone liked that.

Hamburglar wasn't kidding, holy shit.

Speechless (Acoustic, Blackpool)
Paparazzi (VMA 2009)
Bad Romance + Speechless (AMA 2009)

He shouldn't be; she can play the piano and she can actually sing. She's not like Beyonce-tier, but she's still way above, say, Katy Perry tier.

I actually respect Mika quite a bit. I wish he were the new frontman for Queen and I'm dying to know if he was contacted about it or wasn't interested.
