Sanchez is known for ints and Alex had what? 3 all of last year? Yea, Sanchez is not a good comparison.

They had very similar offseasons Sanchez 2010/Smith 2011. Sanchez only had 1 pick, but played an additional game. Hence the comparison.

The more I look at the NFC, even with a great defense, Smith has his work cut out for him with some of the offenses out there. That's the reason I think there might be a "hump" for him.

So does this spell the end for Ginn and Morgan? I feel like we need to sign at least one of them and still draft a WR in the first or second round. Fuck our receivers are pathetic.

I am sure the Niners have resigning Morgan as a top priority.

This is more incentive to get Alex to sign their offer. You sign moss and resign Morgan. Morgan is Smith's most trusted wideout and likely his second favorite target outside of Vernon. You add Moss who can jump and get balls and Alex has the tools to work with.

But this is also about preparing for the draft. WR was a huge need. The Niners don't like going into draft day having to draft for a position. Now they're a bit more open to what they can do with their picks.

lololol

look at who you played in your last 9 games! you don't have the money to get peyton AND get any meaningful offensive lineman. this is the niners division to lose! i know it hurts to say it, but we have the best team in the division and the 2nd best team isn't really close to us. hear me now and believe me later!

Cowboys had a shot at the playoffs, beat Niners, and we barely lost to quality teams when we were playing like SHIT! We play Ravens and Giants later in the season after our D got it together, we win those games. Doesn't mean shit for last season but definitely has me excited for 2012. I'm genuinely excited to see where our D gets this season and with upgrades to the OL and another WR to free up Fitz more we can be pretty good. Ryan Williams will help the run game, Beanie just came off his best season, lots to look forward to even without Manning. We could become good enough to win the divison and that's a nice rebound two seasons after a 5 win result. You heavily overestimate your team after a fluke season. Don't get me wrong, Niners are a good team now but that 13 wins really got to your head. What I saw when we played you the last time gives me plenty of confidence in beating the Niners. If you actually had an offense, maybe things would be different.

So Arizona is the only team that is going to make strides this year? Sound logic, man.

The 49ers will have at least 3 more wins than the Cards next year, I guarantee you that.

Alex going for 4500+ yards and 30+ TD's with Moss.

Baby steps man. 3500 yards and 22 tds first.

no shame in being excited about your team! as for your last game against us, you squeaked out a 2 point win when everything imaginable went your way (including probably the most ridiculous "replay challenge" explanation in NFL history) at home.

reminds me of when we fucking crushed you in san fran at the end of the 2008 season and i thought we were a lock for the division next year. we were well on our way until favre daggered us :(

i'll stop trolling for a minute and say the truth is no one is a lock in this league. i would have never guessed that teams like the bengals, texans, lions or broncos would've been playoff teams last year. every team is so close to each other and most games come down to a handful of plays that make the difference. and because of that, most SEASONS really can come down to a handful of plays which has you with a winning record and in the playoffs or a losing record and out of the playoffs

Sanchize pretty much did that last year...

3474 yds, 26 TDs...

sweet lets compare #'s then!

Sanchez - 308/534, 3,474 yards, 6.4 YPA, 26 TD, 18 INT, 8 lost fumbles
Alex - 273/445, 3,144 yards, 7.1 YPA, 17 TD, 5 INT, 2 fumbles lost

alex with better completion %, higher YPA, much better td/int ratio and 19 less turnovers. no comparison here

This is when Harbaugh surprises everyone and lets the chains off Kapernick and puts the whole league on notice, revealing he knew what he was doing the whole time

He also had a fuckwit of a OC who let him air it out at will, his turnovers will attest to that.

Sanchize is terrible.

Gold: I really want to see what Kaepernick has. He has an amazing skill set and is extremely athletic.

Why not compare their first three years?

Sanchez had a better supporting cast but some shit coaching on the offensive side. At least the majority of Jet fans stopped supporting him after this season.

I'm excited to see him in preseason, didn't get to see much of him last year and what I did see wasn't exactly super encouraging, just that he needed time to learn.

Those are more similar to each other than to say Eli:

359/589 61.0% 4,933 yards 8.38 YPA 29 TD 16 INT 6 Fumbles

Smith/Sanchez are very similar. Smith is more conservative.

Tough to do because Smith didn't have complete seasons early. 2006 and 2011 are the only seasons where he played 16 games.

Edit - Looks like Philbin met with Manning, good luck Miami.

Alex isn't a deep ball passer, and Moss won't go over the middle. I don't see how this makes sense. Niners not going after Manning and trying to resign Alex Smith is killing me.

Maybe Moss can lead block on those patented Alexi QB sweeps.

Then compare the first X number of games.

Honestly, why even bother, they both are what they are. One being marginally better than the other isn't going to do a whole lot. Hard to win a SB with either.

yeah, because alex has had excellent coaching his entire career. before harbaugh the only decent coach he had was norv turner and alex has a semi-decent 2nd year.

alex and sanchez are similar in that they are asked not to lose the game. the difference is alex actually performs this role very well and sanchize doesn't

it's hard to win a superbowl with anyone. marino got to a superbowl once and he is one of the greatest QB's in history. alex smith was a lot closer to a superbowl this year than phillip rivers, ben roofles, mike vick and all the rest of the superstar QB's

Pancakes also said we wouldn't cut Leinart and that he would still battle out TJ for the backup role. Fat fuck doesn't know shit 95% of the time.

Though the odd's of us landing Manning are super slim, his word means shit to every Texans fan with half a brain.

Shameful turning your back on Schaub!

I turned it with TJ :p

Trade Matty for some high picks, draft UH Case Keenum as third string QB... Manning, Yates, Keenum! I'm living the dream :p

Ultimately a pocket style qb ended up winning it. They have for several years now. I'm not saying that he can't do it, or wont, but its an uphill climb.

Not a Jellyfish

but I am a sheep
You guys can't forget that Sanchez went from having what some said the best O-line in football to....Mangold being hurt last year and then Wayne Hunter in the line-up.

This season with Shotty being gone if the Jets sure up their O-line and add another receiver to replace Burress leaving Sanchez will have a much better year. Hard to make progress when you had arguably the most predictable OC in the NFL combined with injuries on the line.

Alex only performed this role for one season, but I guess that's enough. Lets see what he does this year.

Sanchez wasn't really the reason they lost their two trips to AFCCG, defense was rancid. Peyton threw all over them and the Steelers ran it down their throats.

Why the fuck am I defending Sanchez? I'm out. If I were a Niner fan, I'd want a fucking upgrade, but that's just me.

I'm sure we all want an upgrade. Whether its Kaep, Manning, or FMT if he wins games I don't care who it is. This year is going to be VERY telling for Alex. Will another year in the system cause him to raise his game to the next level?

and who is an upgrade out there? peyton manning? the guy who hasn't thrown for anyone and had a serious neck injury? if peyton is 100% healthy i would want him yesterday, as would a lot of teams. but i don't think anyone believes he's healthy. if he ends up signing with the cards or broncos or dolphins or whoever and tears it up then i guess we fucked up. but throwing out $15-20 mil sight unseen is a tough pill to swallow.

we will find out soon enough if it was a mistake to give alex smith another year but it's hard to hate on him when he put up 13 wins and a 90 qb rating in his first year in this system with basically 1 decent WR.

I like the way you think.

I like the way this guy thinks. From the Denver post report comment section that Manning would visit Houston:

Don't sell your Tebow Jerseys just yet Bronco (Tebow) Fans. This Guy Manning is a Marketing Genius, just as much as a Football Genius!!! Think back, "I want to make a decision by Tues." "Only two- Three teams to Visit", all that did is make him look more like the prom queen that might not go to the dance with the rest of the teams who are now begging Manning for an audience. Tenn. SF. and now What do you know, Houston (the team he wanted to go to all along)think about it, what other AFC team, that plays in a dome, that is closest to a SB berth, that plays in the second weakest AFC division, (South) that he could hand his former team two losses a year. He's using team EFX, and the Broncos like a Cheap Date, to get what he wants. He knows there is no way, in this town he could ever overtake Elway as the the most beloved QB in team history (In Houston he could be as big a star, as he is in Indy). The Redskins and Jets saw his play, and went different directions, give them credit...

I still am of the belief this WILL NOT happen and Schaub will be our starter when the season begins.

It's about having a jumpball, quick slant target in the redzone.

I guess people don't realize how much Akers field goal record depended upon the Niners struggle in the red zone.

No real source just some guy at TexansTalk.

As per Jerome Solomon, he's supposedly been texting several Texans players who are "pissed". The Texans will reportedly cut DeMeco Ryans and Jacoby Jones tomorrow.

Cutting DeMeco is another WHOA WTF!!! Jacoby......well bye.

I'm almost certain Peyton said he would put something in place so that if he was injured it would not end up biting the team in the ass financially for the gamble they are taking.

that was mostly because they had the top defense last year, just as BJ did with the Bucs, and Dilfer with the Ravens. Pointe being that those are outliers historically...game managers rarely win superbowls, especially now. It will be even sweeter if they can win one or at least consistently make the playoffs with Alex, I just don't feel confident.

Right, very few people know how healthy he is, but even if he isn't 100%, if he's anywhere close to it, lets say 80, better off with Manning managing the game than Alex.

Harbaugh's system is between the numbers, arm strength shouldn't be an issue. As long as he can spin it with accuracy he'd be an ideal fit. Win while that D is still relatively young and healthy.

I believe the Texans are trying to get Manning ( Matty is coming off injury too, imagine he's slower than before LOL) or this is all just to resign Mario and Myers.

Ryans...cant he take a pay cut? or something? wtf :( Jacoby should have been gone the day after the Ravens knocked us out! LEAVE FOREVER PLEASE GOD

Trade Schaub to Cleveland for one of their first round draft picks and nab Blackmon. :O

I wouldn't do that quite yet. You have receivers. I watched Yates (UNC fan) all though college and last season, and I wouldn't be sold on him as anything other than a really good back up. JMHO
