Recently discovered Lego Digital Designer (late at the party, I know) and man.....what an addiction.

Grew up with LEGO so having the chance to "rebuild" all the classics really brings back childhood memories.

Here are some of my first attempts:

God damn. I'm so doing this. Right now.

They rereleased Black Seas Barracuda at one point. But for the star destroyer we are more likely to get a reimagined one instead if we are lucky.

Yeah, they have done a rerelease line before. I believe they called it Lego Legends and it consisted of 10 or so reproductions of popular sets. I remember Pizza-to-go was another one.

I'm not sure what the status of the line is currently. I don't think I've seen anything for it since 2005 or so, but it would be awesome if they revitalized it. Maybe threw in Cafe Corner for those who missed it on the first go-around.

EDIT: Here's the wiki on the line:

Well finally ordered the MMV. With a Mac repair and dentist visit this has been an expensive month. ;__;

never had the Star Destroyer, but do have the SSD, was the structural problem pretty much solved by them using a bit of creative license and doing a flat base on the SSD and not doing angled panels like they did with the Star Destroyer?
I it must have been a contributing factor but also the bottom panels on the UCS SD are held up by magnets in front and behind the legs. The tower is also supported by only 2 points on the main frame (which is made of 1x24? technic blocks in a triangle. the top plates are also supported by magnets on the same spots.) the culprit in my opinion is a very poor distribution of the whole structure on these 2 points which causes a moment to form and thus can bend the frame. With some changes and with new parts Lego has made since then the should be able to make it while retaining the bottom panels perhaps, but the flat bottom ultimately allows them more liberty not having to worry about such things. Another improvement from what I see on the SSD is that the feet are also completely different. The ones on the UC SD are very sensitive to sideways movement causing them to fall apart taking the whole thing with them as they and only secured by 4-6? small circular pegs each, and sideways motion with the weight of the SD is enough to pull them off.

Nice work, that's such a fun build.

With free shipping and double points it's so tempting to buy from the Lego Online Store. The only thing holding me back is knowing that they charge more online than they do in store.

Still, it's a lot easier for me to order online and not have to lug Lego back with me when I visit the states every couple of months =(

now you're re-releasing your posts :P

Some people like to let a post live. :) I opted against editing for sake of completeness.

Moving on...I STILL haven't cracked GE or FB. I really need to get on that, but other things are taking up far too much time at the moment (sorting the Tower Bridge into my current sorting setup has been one of such adventures).

So I just realized why the prices were higher on the website as opposed to the Lego retail stores, it seems they mark items up for the Canadian store up to 50% higher in price than in the U.S. store. One set I was looking at was $24 in the U.S. store and $34 in the Canadian one. That's like 1990's inflation, there's no reason to have that sort of a markup in this day and age.

My boys are finally old enough to be getting into Lego (well, the 1 year old, not so much). It was a shitty weekend and after they were very good (Lego works well as a bribe, for the record) we broke out "DADS LEGO", aka the new X-Wing. This thing is fantastic to build, the kids are able to assemble parts of it with suitable instruction (I'm doing a fair bit myself, especially when adding the wing sub-assemblies).

The worst part so far is that we're spacing it out (building one bag at a time), so there's currently a very sad looking half completed X-Wing in our dining room and the kids are at school/daycare while I'm at home and I want to finish it.

So. Good.

X-Wing fans should definitely check out Slave I. The build is almost just as fun, and it's even bigger than the X-Wing. Plus, you get a little Boba Fett and Han Solo in carbonite! I mean, what Star Wars fan doesn't want that?

Absolutely. Slave I is amazing. It's a really fun build and great playability afterward. I only have 5 sets but it's by far my favorite.

So I am nearly finished sorting my loose bricks and intend to start taking apart most of the sets i have built to clear up some shelf space. Also more than one or two sets on display is a little more clutter than I like. Took a little break and tried to MOC a monster truck. It quickly turned into "SPACE MONSTER TRUCKIN!".. yeah I know it's pretty bad! Still had fun though ! LOL

Lol, I love it. I 'Moc-ed' a tiny driving robots with about 10 parts I found. It was ugly as hell but so fun to do.

I'm worried about having bought so many sets at once. When they get broken down they are going to completely explode my sorting system, overflowing categories and requiring a wholesale rethink

Eg I have cheese slopes in one of the advent calendar tubs (they are great for small pieces). Just tower bridge will suddenly need 3-4x the space for cheese slopes..

One visit to the Lego store later and I have 2 PAB's, 1 9492 TIE Fighter and 1 free mini TIE. Also ordered some more motors, battery boxes and receivers for home delivery.

I really enjoyed the TIE build last night and although the wings obviously repeated I didn't mind at all. Loved the way the beams are used and you can't argue with the pilot and droid in the pack, they are classic.

Highlights on the wall shown below. I have no need for horses but if I did I would have been very happy.

Forgot to use 10% off voucher but now have just over 1000 points so will be getting the Supercar for 55% off on Wednesday (combination of points and code).

Question for anyone that has built their Metal Grudge:

I got the right remote yesterday but it doesn't drive very well on my (quite flat) carpet. Back and forward is OK and turning at speed works but turning on the spot does not.

Anyone else? I'm thinking of maybe swapping out the smooth tires for some ridged ones.

How long does it take for Lego to ship stuff? Ordered Town Hall about 30 hours ago or so and still nothing. And I am still worried about getting stiffed on my VIP points.

I love the vignettes. Eurobricks tends to do a contest after every series releases - keep an eye out!

@mrklaw Tower Bridge actually sorted VERY cleanly into my current system. There aren't a lot of unique/weird pieces, just a large volume of them.

Your first VIP order takes a good while to register - you have receipts though (just in case!). But when I joined VIP, it took FOREVER to get my card in the mail (I had forgotten about it), so this isn't abnormal.

And I ordered Shuttle Expedition just over 24 hours ago and it's still listed as "In Process". It takes a little while for them, especially considering yesterday was the opening of free shipping + double VIP.

Is there a way to get back up stickers for a set? That UCS for Obi-Wan's starfighter had stickers that needed to be applied to pieces. But I was wondering if I decided to break the set down and remove the stickers in the future, if there'd be a way to order an extra set.

Thanks

That only started yesterday? I thought it had been happening for a few days. Just to be safe I typed in the most recent catalogue number.

Well, the email with my order still says "become a VIP member!" on it instead of how many points I earned.

I signed up for VIP first, then ordered right after. I got the email for VIP, then got the email for the order. But when I went to the website, it said I had to enter my VIP number to register. So was I not registered when I placed the order? It is so fucking annoying and confusing. If I have to jump through hoops I am going to be so pissed I didn't just order it elsewhere and have it already shipped. Everywhere else ships much faster.

Yeah, it's a slow process at first, ha. Customer Service is a pleasure to work with, though. If there ARE any discrepancies, just give them a call and they'll take care of you.

Still annoyed it is taking forever to ship. I ordered from Toys R Us on a saturday morning, but that bastard shipped out ASAP Monday morning.

I ordered from Lego at midnight Monday (late sunday, going into Monday), thinking it would hit the shipping for Monday afternoon or something like Amazon and BN.com do usually. Nope. Tuesday morning and still nothing.

BAH! I am spoiled, I know. But it is still frustrating. I am off work the next two days and was wanting that set now!

two days until double VIP points and 10% off runs out in the UK. Aargh, I really don't *need* any more lego..

Will they do this again in October? Town Hall will still be around along with the Maersk train right?

I wish my daughter would have made up her mind what she wants for her birthday. Its either the Friends house (3315) or the Dino T-rex set (the big one). Couldn't be more different. I suggested she gets the friends set and then she can use her plastic dinosaurs to attack it :) - I love the Dinosaurs in the dino sets but think the vehicles/buildings are a bit bland. Not a fan of large lego playsets generally - they all look identikit. Police is lots of cheap wall panels in blue, fire station is the same but in red. They don't actually look like anything remotely real

Town Hall, Pet Shop, and Grand Emporium should all be around in October, yes. Remember, a set usually runs anywhere from 18-24 months of shelf life (sometimes more).

I keep eyeing the Dino sets, but they are so fucking expensive for piece count. I only want the dinos from them. Particularly the T-Rex. Just so I can build something like this:

dinolasers.jpg

Every time I see that there are studs on the backs of most of the dinos, I want to build something nuts like that pic.

Do it man... do it!

But the sets are so much damn money just to get the dinosaurs. I dont really like the vehicles or anything else, but the dinosaurs look awesome. Some of the sets average close to $.20 a brick. Not a good deal.

Yeah I understand what you mean. And you only get the 'usefull' dinosaurs with the expensive sets.

I wouldn't buy it either, unless one day in the future the prices drop like crazy because toystores want to get rid of it. Like Ninjago.

Anyone else got a strange order in their Lego orders? It says item 2855031 and has charged me nothing. The item number isn't valid though.

Order placed the shop yesterday has just been shipped.... not too bad.

Marshalls and TJ Maxx. I picked up King's Carriage Ambush, Prince of Persia Quest Against Time, and some small Atlantis set for stupid low prices at those two stores.

Target and Meijer also reduce sets later on, too. Portal of Atlantis was marked down hard at Target, and the Alien HQ (the one with the mobile command center) was reduced great at Meijer at one point last year. Sales DO happen, they're just few and far between (and on very obscure sets).
