They are from opened sets that customers return. Whenever they have a lot of those, the employees break them up into those bags. I think it's sorted by weight.

That's pretty cool actually and a neat way to randomly get unique pieces, I'll have to look for those next time I hit up the Lego store.

$16 for the Lotso truck and $6 for the fire truck.

After!

I was surprised at how many pieces the dump truck had!

Hmmm... wonder how hard it would be to add some power functions to that R2-D2 to add wheels to the legs and light the front of the dome?

BTW: the older designer that said he was going on maternity leave (?) is the same one who designed the SSD

Ah, well that explains why we've never seen it before in the store we normally go to. But this was our first time at this store, and the employees there seemed like real Lego enthusiasts. Heck two of them were helping some kids pack their cups as full as possible, that was cool. And their pick a brick wall had a real good variety.

We'll definitely be looking for those bags from now, it was a hell of a good deal.

fairly ok I think. The feet looked big enough for a small PF motor which is probably the easiest way, just figure out how to get the cable through the pivot without it tangling. LED probably mount separately - the head looks like it has enough space. And IR sensors would be pretty easy to hide I think.

only complication might be housing the battery for the legs - there looks like quite a lot of moving parts in there - middle leg, probe, cutting disc - might not be much room.

haha, I'm guessing TLG just treats their employees very well and grants leave to the fathers as well as the mothers. Or he's gay and adopted a child.

Man, LEGO Digital Designer is pretty pro. I just relived a piece of my childhood by building this:

I think there was only one piece missing and some pieces were the wrong color but other than that it's a damn cool tool. Sadly it seemed to be a lot more janky when it comes to Technics stuff.

Not sure where this designer lives (Denmark?), but in a lot of European countries you can get paternity leave (without eating up your regular vacation days). It's a lot less less days than maternity leave of course.

I remember the first release of it, the amount of added parts you can use now is amazing. But still strangely not enough.

Fathers can often take family leave in the US too. It usually uses accumulated vacation or sick days, but it's a "right" to take the time off, so the employer cannot deny the leave request. I know guys who have done it. Lots of work taking care of a newborn so it makes sense.

I prefer MLCAD over Lego Digital Designer. It's more complicated but it also allows more freedom, seems to have every part, can produce instructions to make said models, and can generate parts lists that you can then import into Bricklink. Does take some practice to get good with it though.

Lego shipped by Town Hall. HAHAHAHAHAH! (insert maniacal laughter). It better show quickly. I need something to do this weekend besides apologizing to my wife for ordering it.

The older releases of the LDD actually allowed you to buy your final model with generated instructions (and gave you a part list) Not sure if they still offer the service. Will give MLCAD a look!
Edit: Darn the brick libraries don't install on 64-Bit windows >.>

Order says shipped, yet VIP points are still not there. Still normal after it is shipped?

Yes. Registration for VIP, like I mentioned, takes a lot longer than it should. If you're worried, give them a call though. They'll update you and make sure things process fine.

E: Mine just shipped! Woo

I haven't noticed any wierd power cutoffs yet. But I do expect it to start acting funny whenever one side's batteries start to die. Obviously they won't drain at equal rates cause you'd be random in controlling it. I'll just take that as a symptom that the batteries need to be charged.

Mine can't turn on carpet either, I think the motors just aren't strong enough.

As far as the control sticks, they're technic axles connected into the controller. The rest is just some contraption I came up with out of spare parts as "padding" so the controller doesn't feel too small. That's all

The author was saying that he was experiencing some strange random power cutoffs when using two receivers and that it was more reliable using just one. Did you notice anything of sort?

Also, I've noticed that with one battery + one receiver, Grudge can't make the 360 spin on a carpet surface (one control stick up, the other down). Can you try yours and tell me if two receivers give it enough power to do so. I might try sticking another receiver and another battery box in there for maximum ultimate powah.

Lastly, can you explain a bit what you've done with the control sticks? How do they work exactly, and why there's wheels and black bars protruding behind it?

I started looking into it... Download the all-in-one installer here: http://www.ldraw.org/Downloads-index-req-viewdownload-cid-1.html It includes everything you need, including MLCAD.

Just to make sure I'm getting this right - you're using two batteries and two receivers, and still the carpet turn won't work?

If that's the case it's quite possible that as you said motors are just not strong enough and adding another receiver and battery doesn't help much.

Broke down the Falcon, then rebuilt it.

I cheated a bit. The feet I kept constructed as well as two of the back pieces just because I was strapped for time. Strangely, I had a piece left over this time, which I do not understand. But here ya go. Time lapse build.

I just lol'd.

I think I'm gonna go get Fire Brigade tomorrow night.

somebody stop me plz

We encourage it.

I dont get it really. It was a random round 1x1 tall, tapered piece. Totally random. And I just disassembled it, sorted, then started the video.

About to upload pics of The Empire invading the Fire Brigade, with the valiant Rebel Alliance fighting them off to save the city! (IMGUR is acting up, so waiting for that.)

Warning: IMAGE BOMB COMING!

All the Falcon pieces sorted and laid out before I shot the time lapse video.

Just picked up Ultimate Build Mater for 5$ on clearance. I think I'm going to MOC out the cars stuff and see if i can just make it a old model tow truck. Picks to follow if I have any success.

So here is the Un-Disney version I MOC'd.
It's actually a really nice set. I'm pretty sure I'm going to take it apart again and put it back together the right way after I take some better pics with my DSLR.
Also I couldn't notice the difference in the color of the brown bricks until I took the picture with the flash. That's pretty interesting.
