This movie looks absolutely awful. Wow.

I can't tell if this just another dumb Hollywood action movie or "just-another-dumb-Hollywood-action-movie-*winkwinknudgenudge*"

"FROM HASBRO THE COMPANY THAT BROUGHT YOU TRANSFORMERS"

What a tangential connection to brag about.

Not a single post mentions what looks bad. Shocker. Of course it's not going to be cerebral but that shot of the alien battleship rising out of the water looked fucking badass.

Looks good to me. Don't really get the knee-jerk reaction to say it looks crappy when often times its the trailers that are the best things about these movies and from that trailer it looks no worse than say Transformers.

That's not a high bar to beat.

On it like a car bonnet. Films looks crazy fun. Need my annual injection of big loud crazy action films.

I quite like the track that was played during the trailer. Any idea who it is?

Really? Why not? Just carriers?
Pretty much. Battleships were a relic of the old days of naval warfare, when ships would maneuver and bombard each other or land targets with big guns; they haven't played a major role in naval warfare since WW2 or earlier. Now it's all about carrier groups, with large aircraft carriers being supported by smaller anti-air and anti-sub ships, and missile cruisers and subs taking the bombardment role.

- Prepare to fire.
- Sir, which weapons?
- All of them.

I'm watching this just to hear that line. Also, considering this is Peter Berg, I have no doubt it's going to be average. Not good, not bad, average. I'm still surprised he got such a big budget to play with.

The problem with movies like this for me is that there's so goddamn many explosions and big guns and stuff that it doesn't feel like anything anymore.

I'm sure it has its audience though.

I'm sure they'll find some "Sir, you've been ordered to transfer this Battleship to the Navy Museum on Hawaii. For no apparent reason all of the weapons will be fully loaded with live ammunition" explanation.

Hey man, even if you get to go up as a guest in a fighter jet, they still put rockets on them, just in case. It's not that weird.

Holy shit. LANDRY is in this?! Who else from FNL is showing up? Thank goodness I'll get to look at Adrianne Palicki in G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

I love how they use the sound effects from the Transformers films...

Day 835 when it hits HBO or EPIX or whatever...

they are spending so much time on effects, like they don't want intelligent people to go see this!

Hey now, these are bleeding edge water sim visuals! Those can take quite a while to render.
Battleship trailers have all been amazing. They should just make a full movie like them.

You'd probably like the ILM finals reel then, which only shows all the effects shots with no dialogue and just a music track blasting. We do these for all projects, hell I recall the TF2 one had some of the original theme remixed in the background track. Don't remember if Michael Bay had a reaction to that or not.

Point taken. Though I still think in a Museum scenario they'd still wouldn't load every weapon. After all you'd have to get all this ammunition back to the main-base after the transport. An escort would probably make the most sense.

Nice.

By the way, seeing as you work for ILM, do you know what track they used for this new trailer? Would appreciate it if someone can grab a name.
