Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced in 2006. It is now 2012. These are facts.

Versus engine is a modified version of White Engine which was codenamed Black Engine at one point. Since then it's become completely proprietary (in addition to adding Luminous lighting technology)... meaning they won't be using it again for any other game aside from Versus.

That is insane. All that time & money (and time is money friend) to create a engine for ONE game.

That is insane. All that time & money (and time is money friend) to create a engine for ONE game.

Their original plan is to use it for 3 games (XIII, Versus, XIV). It's not like they expected it to fail. But even XIV is using a completely new engine for version 2.0.

I was thinking that perhaps that new filled trademark, Final Fantasy Dimensions, has something to do with this one. Maybe their creating its own new series with that.

Any news on whether or not Versus is showing up at E3 this year?

I don't worry about the wait anymore, as long as the product turns out great. I'd rather wait for a lengthy well-rounded product than a rushed one with many concepts and goals never fully reached.

Still sucks.

LOL, so now we get wii u port begging in addition to 360. Next year we'll get 720 thrown into the mix.

We've been getting Wii U port begging for a while now. It's always the same desperate people too.

And I'm not sure what the outrage is over. It's obvious that there won't be any significant news until a big event. Noruma's not gonna spill in some random interview that's not even about Versus. I just hope that the "unrelated" thing isn't another game that's going to push back Versus media.

....unless that game is Kingdom Hearts III. But that would be a good thing, so it won't be.

http://andriasang.com/con0a1/nomura_versus_mystery/

Tetsuya Nomura says in this week's Famitsu that he's almost ready with preparations for sharing new Final Fantasy Versus XIII info. So does that mean we can expect an update soon?

Apparently not. According to Nomura, certain circumstances, which he describes as "totally unrelated," are preventing him from sharing the info. He also said that he's not allowed to talk about the situation, so all he can do is continue engaging in discussions. Discussions with who? He didn't say.

Mysterious!

What the hell does this even mean?

Probably the execs decided for a multiplatform release for versus and nomura won't be happy because he'll have to supervision a team or some members of its team working on the microsoft console version imho, lol.

Then what of the mainline series? If the spin offs overpower the mainline series then all will have been for nought.

So a FF Dimensions will be the best received FF of this gen?

Best to make it FFXV if they are confident it will astound the world (which Nomura is quite confident of)

"Almost" with Nomura can mean eternity,,,
Nomura Take all the time you like but just keep it exclusive to the PS3, Port it later to 360 i dont mind, but release the game as planned and envisioned , no shortcuts, no editing, no downgrade in order for it to be compatible to both consoles,,,, and please name it FFXV

How considerate of you.

What the hell does this even mean?

I'm guessing either it is a 'multi-platform thing' a 'Sony wants something for E3/TGS so keep it quiet' type of thing or a 'this is going to be next gen now so we can't say anything yet' situation.

The first two are quite likely, the last one wouldn't surprise me too much if they haven't got a lot done and want a PS4 launch title. This wouldn't be the worst idea in the world, sure there would be some flak, but in the end if it lived up to it's potential, everybody would still be lining up.

Oh I hope it goes nex gen and becomes a PS4 launch or PS4 1styear title.

Amazing audiences early in the gen and setting the bar for quality is what FF did till this gen.

That is the comeback the series needs.

If S-E could pull it off, they would remake FF7 as a console-opener (ps4 or whatever), slam dunk it in quality and style, and use that resulting goodwill and income to bring people's faith back for FF15 on the same console.

I don't think SE knows or understands what goodwill is.

Is there any point in an exclusive FF game next gen if everyone is using AMD CPU/GPU combinations?

I'm not sure moving the development of a game already taking a full generation to produce to another generation of console is the best idea. Also calling it FFXV is such an empty gesture.

Probably one of the (if not THE) biggest epic fails in gaming I've ever seen.

Since 2006, I've:

+ Finished university
+ Traveled all over the world
+ Gotten a full time job
+ Bought a house
+ Had a baby

Yes and no. From what I understand there are three versions of it, each to their specific game. FFXIV is actually upgrading to a different graphics engine soon, so there's that.

As for Versus, Nomura has specifically said the engine for his game won't be used elsewhere, and again... at least in Japanese development, that's not entirely uncommon.

way to make everyone else feel inadequate :)

I just don't see that happening at this point.

When dev times start to get this long is when you start seeing things behind the scenes become a big ol' mess, and it's easy to lose sight of the original vision in that environment. Oftentimes it won't even have anything to do with pressure from the publishers, just the creator getting bogged down in their own shit.

At this point I'm praying for a playable game, but not expecting anything I'd consider truly great.

Well I think I've got you beat, sir. Since 2006 I have

piano
+ Gotten my hair cut. TWICE, sucker!

ha HA, not so smug now are you

I think it's sad we've gotten to this point. Same story with TLG. It has taken so long to get these games out. :(

I can't seem to get my hopes up with this game. I find the characters ridiculous (the hair) but mostly it's taking too long. It's not a good sign and there is too much hype around it.

How about a PC version on release?

What the fine fiddly foo flippin' fuck does that mean?

It means that Jiggle has announced that Andriasang has announced that Nomura is announcing that he's not yet ready to announce more information about this game.

Obviously.

Now if only Nomura's announcement were something about GAF telling him to get on with it; then we'd have a closed loop of multi-layer announcements.

Going forward, Square just needs to end the nonsense of announcing games before they're even games. It still blows my mind that full development of this game only recently started. They need to completely shut their mouths about Versus until there is SOMETHING to show, rather than playing this game with the fans and industry as a whole.

I'm still not entirely convinced this game will ever see the light of day, though I'm hoping the recent Eidos acquisition and potential blockbusters will help offset whatever they've lost so far on development of this particular project.

not enough lols in all of GAFland for this.

jesus christ, S-E. My neck is sore from the constant, violent head-shaking.
Wada needs a good dropkicking.

You just reminded me that this game only existed in trailer form with 10 second extensions every year for a while.

Depressing. :(

In closed mega theaters no less.

But we still got more news back then than we do now, which is depressing.

They did the same damn thing with FFXII. And FFXIII.

Really horrible press/marketing for their meal ticket.

I miss the good ole' days of super-hype FFVII and FFVIII news/screens/characters/details rolling once a month from the time of announcement up to release. Fun times. Hell, even FFIX and FFX (well, the concept was shown in Jan 2000, it disappeared, and reappeared with a string of info a year later) kept info streaming in at a fairly steady pace.

Don't worry, when it comes it,
If it comes out
you will see Versus characters in every single thing SE does for the next ten years

No more announcing games years before development even starts.
Not saying games should follow the Syndicate model all of the time (getting officially announced 1Q away from release), but damn son.

Hardly THE biggest failure. That would probably be Duke Nukem Forever. Then again, that actually got released.

As sad as it is to say... I almost wish they were still doing them. At least the leaks were reliable!

You know we've hit rock bottom when we ask for trailers we can't see.

That's one of the most annoying things about SE. Announcing a game then having to wait a couple years to actually play it.

Whatever guys, the Production trailer from 14 months ago can keep me going for another 6 years.

Sad but true.
I'm pretty sure after that, I said, "Alright SE, good stuff. Take all the time you need," and wasn't expecting them to actually take me up on that offer.

I feel that was their chance to keep talking about the game. They really dropped the ball there in favor of trying to prop up FF13-2.
