As someone who has now been on the phone for 69 minutes waiting to get my scroll of resurrection on WoW fixed because I wanted to go back for a month while waiting for GW2, I can't wait for this game all the more. This is after five days of trying to get it fixed in my limited free time.

Wahhhh.

Yeah they are saying 1 beta event a month starting in late April. Not sure what that means in terms of a release. I suppose it depends how they go.

I wonder how long in advance they will allow for the digital download. 25GB is going to take a long ass time with my current internet, i'd probably need 4 days.

Well considering you'll be able to join the beta weekends when you prepurchase the digital download version, I'd assume you'd have the client downloaded by launch (least that's how the betas worked for SWTOR) and then maybe just get the patch or whatever during the prerelease period

It'll take me about 6 hours with my connection to grab the full game at the current 25gig file size. xD

Yeah...me too 8). Comcast is expensive but at least they're fast. Also, I am very curious since the 2nd beta event is about to start(press being the first) about how many there'll be total?

As far as I recall, SWTOR had a different client on the final release than the Beta one. You had to download the full thing again

It will only take about two hours for me if I would get full speed all the way through. Thank god for fast internet.

I really hope I get in to the first beta so I won't have to download at the same time as everyone else who pre-purchased.

If it's 25 GB, then wouldn't retail copies be 4-5 discs large? Picture of the CE only shows 2 (I assume one is the soundtrack).

they probably ask for 25 gigs becaues they know the game will constantly be patched and what not. my guess is the game will be like 15-20 gigs at release, they just know that it will reach 25 gigs before any expansion with patches etc.

Wow, excited about the news! But really let down at the digital deluxe edition. Whats with the temporary use items only :( I would of defiantly tossed down some extra money for the perma golem banker. but since its only for 5 days...screw that.

Regular edition it is... and i wanted to give them fists full of money for awesomeness :(

So I haven't been following this lately, does that mean that the whole Late March date is now Late April?

Did they also confirm that the beta would only run on weekends?

Nah, end of march beta is still happening, but you are right on the weekend thing.
Edit: Oh, looking at the thread title it seems like some mod got confused with the dates.

25gb is how much space is needed on your hard drive, not the amount needed for download. You'll likely be downloading 12gb or so and it will decompress to 25.

Hard drive space requirements generally overshoot the size of the actual game, sometimes by tens of gigs. I don't expect GW2 to be bigger than the low teens of GBs, honestly.

From what we saw, the press beta client size was a 12gb download.

Can we get a mod to change the title back? It should be:

Pre-Beta in Late March, Closed Beta for all in April, pre-purchase details

I think he is refurring the the late march sign in beta not matching up with the statements of "all betas" for pre buying on april 10th. If "All beta's" are after the 10th this makes the late march beta questionable, but I think it's just a poor choice of wording.

I think "all betas that happen after you pre-order" is a reasonable assumption. After all, we know that it didn't get you into the press beta, or any of the closed betas before that. Why would they specifically need to call out the March beta? You can assume you aren't getting in anything that comes before you get the benefit.

I wonder if they will limit the pre-orders initially ala SWTOR.

How could "All Betas" mean anything but "All Betas" after April 10th? There have already been at least 2 betas (family/staff beta in Dec/Jan, and Press in February).

Wasnt the late March beta just referenced in the Monday cocktease email?

The first beta in late March is random based on the applications. They will continue to have more signups for future betas after that.

Pre-ordering gets you guaranteed access to every Beta Weekend Event (once a month) for every month until launch starting in late April.

So the signup betas are separate from the pre-order betas and will run on separate weekends.

So it's like this:

(speculative dates)

March 30th (sign up beta)

April 20th (sign up beta)

April 27th (pre-order beta)

and so on.

Btw, there's no NDA on the pre-order betas.

I hope the pre-order beta doesn't start at the end of April. I'll be out of town.

I'm curious to see if they've made any changes to the Mesmer by the time of the next beta.

Pretty positive they did say the first pre-order beta is at the end of April.

Beta weekend events (BWEs) are different from the closed beta people signed up for earlier.

Did TB give up on putting out vids from the over 90 gigs worth of content? Saw the Warrior, the jumping puzzle, and the mailbox vids. So Warrior is the only class vid made?

I have no idea. I think there's a good chance it'll show up on Steam like GW1 did. The question is whether or not it will be pre-purchasable from Steam.

I would love it if I could buy a physical copy and register it on steam personally. Get the hour tracking and such of steam and the physical box goodness.

One thing that's bugging me, quote from Regina on gw2guru

When do Beta Weekend Events (BWEs) start, and how many will there be?
The first BWE is currently planned for late April, and we expect to have one every month or so. The schedule is subject to change and will be confirmed at a later date. Currently, we do not know how many of these events we will have.
So one a month, meaning we probably won't have it until or after summer ;( me want nau

The more I read about the BWE and look at the wordings they are using, the more it makes me think they are being purposely vague. It seems to me like there may be more beta's than just the Beta weekend events. We already know they have a Beta at the end of March, and obviously this isn't considered a Beta Weekend Event as it's not included in the pre buy perks and it's also why some thought the March Beta was pushed back(which ANet said wasn't). It makes me think there is more to the wording than we thought.

They could have more betas coming than just the end of march one and the BWE's. There could be 7 beta's taking place after the 10th but only 3 of those could be considered Beta Weekend Events. I think the wording is just trying to fluff up the prebuy, they make it seem like you get in all the betas, but really you just get in the ones that are beta weekend events.

It's still a good perk and not faulting them for doing it, it just seems the wording is very specific for a reason.(or vague)

Or I could just be crazy and reading too much into it, just seems there was confussion on the wording and they were pretty quick in saying the march one was still on. The wording of beta weekend event and saying all of them seems very deliberate.

I think you're just reading too much into it. It seems to me ANet is just taking things slow with the betas in order to not give people false hope of there being one every weekend or something. Which is a conclusion I think GW2Guru would easily jump to.

Personally, I'm not expecting more than 3-4 beta weekends with an July or August release at this point. I doubt they'll announce the next weekend after April until they're sure they'll actually have another. Remember they said the release date depends on how the betas go.

Sometimes people are just too desperate for news. :lol

I just think the wording, even after the prebuy stuff, is too deliberate and vague to be just PR mix up. At first I thought it was just a mixup of words when it purtained to just the pre-buy bonus and the end of march beta, but now I think it's specific with WBE for a reason. They have also said spefically that the end of march beta and the WBE are not the same thing, just seems odd to say when you could just say the end of march beta will still happen.(which they also did)

Put's tin foil hat on

Edit:I should NOT have gone to GW2Guru....... Checked the totalbiscuit thread to see if he had released any new videos and the thread has been an argument on whether you should be able to use fire under water for about 10 pages. wow

actually if u were in the last 1 or 2 weekend betas before release then all you had to do was patch up the client for release. but if you were a part of an older beta then yes you had to uninstall then reinstall the client. so it might be the same way with the gw2 client. although if you just want to be on the safe side you can always uninstall and reinstall the client again for launch and get rid of those older unused files that will just take up space when going from a beta client to a release client.

They should have 4 types of beta just to mess with everybody. I vote we have full moon betas or if Gail Gray sees her shadow.

All the GW gurus are a cesspool. Even with GW1, none of the relevant players posted there. It was just a bunch of incessant whining from a bunch of scrubs.

Haha I saw the same thing. Abandon thread!

As for the betas and release, I think they are just playing it close to the vest because they really dont know. I am sure they are feeling generally positive and have an idea of where they are and where thy need to be but at the same time, who knows what introducing 10s of thousands of gamers will result in?
