NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

Meh, I'm okay with that deal for D-Jax.

At least he'll have that peace of mind now and he can concentrate on just playing now that he got paid. The market-price for replacing him via FA would be just as stupid expensive, and the Eagles of all teams know the risks/rewards in regards to managing the cap.

Now we'll surely turn our sights towards locking Shady down.

How much did D-Jax get?

Okay so he got the same money that Pierre Garcon received from the Redskins basically (actually a little more). I wonder who will have the better season, Desean Jackson or Pierre Garcon.....

Texans fans, how is Mike Brisiel? He's going to visit the Raiders apparently, probably Carlisle's replacement.

Weakest link on the best o-line in the NFL last year. Does have injury problems. If I had to choose a linemen to lose it would be him. Myer's on the other hand must be resigned (at a reasonable amount I should add)

At least he's one tuff son of a bitch, played through a broken leg to clinch the playoff berth.

We already use a lot of 2 TE sets. Dugan and Kleinsasser used to function as both TEs and FBs.

lol Dugan.

Rudolph and Carlson (both big, tall, and possess some great hands) seem a lot more dynamic to me. Hell, I think The Sauce only caught like 3 passes in the last 3 years. Unfortunately Carlson has been injured the last two seasons. I hope it's not a cycling pattern.

I'm just anxious to see who we get for our Oline and CBs; i.e. the primary needs on this team. I don't care if it's FA or draft... they just need to fill those holes.

That's nice and all, just so long as they block well. I'm not a fan of TEs that are just WRs with a weight problem.

Hmmmm...

No weight problem there...

Nor there!

I don't know about Carlson post injuries, but from what I saw watching every MN game last year- Rudolph is the real deal. Dude can play.
The Sauce's phenomenal blocking will be greatly missed, however. The guy was truly an unsung hero.

God dammit, Meachem's gone, now Nicks is gone, Porter's probably next. At least we wrapped up Colston, but shit. Back to another 44 years of mediocrity :/

Not to mention you don't have a first round pick this year thanks to Ingram, and now next year as well thanks to the bounty scandal.

Oh and Brees is currently irate with management too...

I tease, I tease. Will be interesting to see what happens with you guys this year.

Nice... after the Jax deal, we have about 22 mill in cap-space and that's before we possibly trade Asante and clear more space. Tons of room to get Shady extended, make a decision on whether to pursue Mathis or someone else, and make some additional noise in FA (hopefully, bring in a LB).

Anyway, definitely a fan of how Roseman and the FO has operated this off-season.

Finnegan gets $5 million to sign, and $5 million in 2012. He's due a guaranteed $5 million roster bonus the first day of the 2013 league year, and a $9 million salary in 2013 also guaranteed for skill and injury. He's due a $3 million roster bonus in 2014 (guaranteed early in the 2013 offseason) and $6 million in salary. In 2015, Finnegan's salary jumps to $8 million. He's due a $2 million roster bonus the 3rd day of the 2016 league year and has an $8 million salary in 2016. Finnegan also gets $312,500 added to his 2016 salary every season that Finnegan makes the Pro Bowl and the team makes the playoffs. Finnegan will make $33 million over the next three years and most of it ($26.5 million) is guaranteed

Why overpay for a guy who wants to reunite with his old coach, but get stingy when it comes to giving the $54m QB anyone to throw to? Maybe they want him to fail so they can cut him next year and not pay him $15m? I hate to be tin foil hat guy, but the alternatives all involve incompetence

Sorry #bucnation I tried but it looks like @CurtisLofton50 is an Eagle. Business is business he did what was best for him. Understandable.

Reported for this page.

Curtis Lofton is an Eagle?

Edit: Now he's saying he was wrong. What?

Omar Kelly @OmarKelly
Paul Soliai is preparing to re-sign with the Dolphins. He's scrapped his plan to visit Denver. Dolphins have retained their nose tackle.

Good to see him back I guess, he is a good run stopper but I hope we don't overpay him.

He's wrong. Nothing reported as far as Lofton being an Eagle.

Coughlin on the Martellus Bennett signing:

In our situation it's a perfect match, because here we are with two guys [Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum] that aren't ready to go. "We get a guy with this quality and we can say to him 'You go out on the field ... and it you are willing to pay the price to be what you want to be. Here's the opportunity. What you have is a talented athlete who played behind an all-pro, who is not very satisfied, is not very fulfilled, is anxious. He is anxious to prove the quality of athlete and football player that he can be. He feels like he hasn’t scratched the surface of what he can do. And he’s a young, aspiring, athletic tight end who can run. So we’re excited about that. This could be a terrific move for both him and us.”

I followed this thread pretty much all last year but never posted. As a Falcons fan just wanted to see what others thought of all the new staff changes this off season? People seem pretty positive about the addition of nolan but I haven't heard much of anything about the other new staff.

Welcome to Falcons-GAF friend. I think the staff changes were needed. We needed a change in philosophy offensively and defensively. We have alot of weapons on the offense side of the ball that I think weren't being utilized to their full potential. The way FA is starting out, Nolan is going to have his work cut out for him.

Can anyone tell me anything about Jonathan Fanene? Just looking at his numbers last season he should definitely help the Pats defense. At this point I will take just about anyone.

Mario Williams is leaving Buffalo tonight.

Bad news: Probably headed to Chicago for a visit.

Good news: Detroit has the cap room and may be one of the other 2 teams interested.
