Mass Effect 3 SPOILER THREAD: LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE

I think I buy the indoctrination "theory." At the very least it is a subtext. And the ending seems so purposeful vague as if they wanted people to interpret them.

The "Reaper - indoctrination" entry in the codex is pretty interesting...

So going forward... if ME3's ending creates a new setting for further games, how would they handle the fact that some people's universes are full of synthetics, and some people's universes have no synthetics?

I assume the ending will be determined for you, but they'll still import your other decisions.

I really want to see them jump way forward, like 10,000 years, and than show me the consequences of my actions. I cured the Genophage, now what? Do the Krogan become more warlike and evil? Heck you can take it even further, maybe because I cured the Krogan and have Wrex, the krogan are a friendly species where if I didn't they'd either be extinct/near-extinction or invading half the galaxy. Maybe because I saved the Rachni queen, they've become a highly advanced society. There's so many far flung consequences I'd love to see. Heck, even the broken mass relays can be written around if you go far enough into the future. You can't tell me that someone didn't study them enough to reverse engineer some. Combine that with the fact that Quantum-Entanglement Communicators would still work means that it wouldn't be too unreasonable for multiple races in different systems to coordinate and rebuild the network.

The endings are nearly identical. In the ending where there are no synthetics, the organics can just build more synthetics. They just need to put a large gap of time between ME3 and what comes next. Which the post-credits scene hints at anyways.

ROFL.

The only one that seems really problematic is everyone being cyborgs. Maybe that one will be written out or if you did that ending they'll just say everyone's a hybrid in 4.

Anyone figure out what the significance of Shepard burning with the boy was?

Is it foreshadowing that he will die or something along with the child?

Either way though they can go with the hybrid option in a future game. Even if no one picked it, because there are no more reapers everyone advanced to the point where we are all part robot.

Dunno how they'd explain the robot plants though...

You see those black inky things coming off of him? Harbinger indoctrination.

I think it's just another clumsy attempt at evoking emotion from Bioware, tbh, but w/e.

I just beat it and wow this is the worst overreaction in the history of video games. Oh noes, an ending that doesn't answer every damn question and leaves things to interpretation. The SCOPE of the game was so incomprehensible when talking about galaxies and the universe and such that an ending like this shouldn't be a surprise. Hell, the game had a depressing, end-of-existence tone to it that should have lubed us up for what was to come (the ending). It's funny reading these replies...I only read the first 3 pages but it's way over the top. There was even one guy who said ME2 had a better story, rofl. ME3's story, characters, writing, dialogue, voice-acting... GLORIOUS. Holy fuck, how can someone say ME2 had a better story. Such fucking gross hyperbole, my god. It makes me mad.

And FYI the fact that the 'guardian' or whatever we should call him was the kid doesn't have some deep, underlying meaning. The kid was just one of Shepard's strongest memories so the 'guardian' took shape in his form. The actual kid had nothing to do with anything. Do people really not understand that.

o.o

But how do you really feel?

People understand it, they just think it's fucking stupid and a lame attempt from Bioware to make us feel emotional.

That part did freak me out a little. It was right after making the final decision to go for it right? The vision made me think I didn't have enough assets and Shep was going to lose.

It's Shepard's burning desire to have children. It doesn't mean much as the flames aren't red, green or blue. If the flames were green though... SPACE MAGIC INDOCTRINATION.

But if this kid didn't mean anything and had nothing to do with anything why was it one of Sheps strongest memories?

Those talking about how our saves will affect the next game, it'll more than likely be on a new console so unless they plan on some way to import across consoles then they will go with some canon ending.

And then you realize all endings are the same.

And you think about the ending.

And you rage.

The Internet is like some sort of hyperbolic competition. The crazier and more over-the-top your opinions are the cooler you become... you get more noticed, you stick out from the crowd, you get more attention. HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE, HORRIFIC (someone really used HORRIFIC), WORST EVER.

I think I'm going through the stages of grief out of order.

Initially, it was shock, because I didn't know what the fuck happened.

But then I jumped straight towards acceptance; bad endings happen all the time, and it's just a video game and I can move on to other stuff.

But now I'm feeling anger. So much time spent on this series over the course of five years just for it to end like... that. And I will never be able to wipe my memory of the experience either.

Now I'm just at the depression stage. Of course, BioWare/EA isn't going to give a fuck; they're probably already running to the bank with the cash. But man... I haven't been let down like that in a long time (and despite its flaws, I still really liked the ME universe. Not enough to suffer through the novels, but it was enough). It's Star Wars all over again!

But eh, I'll probably get over it in 15 minutes but... I need to get a red, blue, or green slushy from 7-11.

Honestly, the more I talk about it with people, the more I kinda like what this end sets up. Sure, it's a bad way to end this current trilogy, but it paints bioware into an interesting corner for their next set of ME games. If it forces them to go super far forward into the future, I'm all for it. I think that would be the most interesting setting they could do in a new main Mass Effect game. I also would love a prequel set in the first contact war, but as a side project not a mainline game.

Also how we were lied to before hand about how our choices would effect the ending and we wouldn't be picking ending A, B or C (which really are just all ending A with a different colour).

Funny. Not surprising, but funny.

But... aren't your opinions on this whole thing just that? Mostly everyone here hates the ending, you have the opinion that sticks out from the crowd. Don't go raging on us because we think the ending is a piece of shit but you like it.

Those talking about how our saves will affect the next game, it'll more than likely be on a new console so unless they plan on some way to import across consoles then they will go with some canon ending.

With the previous generation of consoles, everything was stored on proprietary memory units. These days it's all hard drives and USB sticks. No reason I shouldn't be able to transfer game saves to a new console.

Yes! Everyone is saying the ending is complete shit is doing it for attention! You sir, are a genius.

I'm honestly not surprised at all to see you saying this. You always tend to pick the opposite of whatever the majority say lol.

I don't trust them! Look at how the whole cloud saving thing went. :/

Aye, no one here is going to jump down your throat for liking the end as much as you did. We just disagree.

Chill.

Isn't that what you are doing? Nearly everyone hates the endings or at least thinks they're bad, so it's not exactly attention whoring to say you hated it too or thought it was horrific, rather telling everyone they're wrong and are drama queens who can't understand anything is in fact trying to get attention.
