so what would non retina iphone apps look like on new pad?
Depends how they're going to handle the scaling. They haven't been doing a consistent pixel double or smooth scale before so who knows how they're handling this one. I guess relative to native res it'll just look worse cause native will be so much higher on them.

I hope they will figure out that they have enough place on screen to make a decent x2. Well, I am not aware if the resolution is high enough but that sure would trick me into buying the Ipad3

Just got MotoHeroz--really great controls and smooth 3D graphics. Kinda makes me want to check out the original Wii version too.

The Monkey Island games, Broken Sword games, Machinarium.

lol Are you talking about Street Fair? I thought you were done with it. My GC name on there is Dosuchin.

No, I was talking about The Simpsons. I got back into Street Fair though after the Simpsons came out. :\ I hate hate HATE these freemiums that make you tap your rewards after you complete stuff though. Both of them have that out the ass, it gets really annoying.

Also fuck Motoheroz for not having a universal version. I'm so over separate versions.

How long are both Chaos Rings and Ω? I am looking for a lengthy RPG.

Chaos Rings 1 took me around 30 hours to beat with all four couples. It's around 7-8 hours per couple. Once you complete the entire story there's a bunch of extra stuff to do, although I never bothered.

Not sure about Omega, sorry.

Oh, I haven't tried out The Simpsons yet. What do you mean by tapping rewards? Like, the outfits for Snoopy you have to touch and then place down again?

It's not like you HAVE to... Doesn't it get automatically collected after a bit anyway?

Well you plus RedLynx's reputation was enough to sell me on this, liking it so far. Kind of worried it could turn into an upgrade or collectathon though.

I used to harp on about wanting universal everything, but I recently flip-flopped.

Why? A couple reasons.

IF (now this can be a big "if") a developer splits the app into two, and prices them accordingly, I'm all for it. I can't remember which app, but recently a game came out and the dev said they'd rather sell both apps at a lower price each, say 99c, vs a universal one for $1.99. This actually HELPS the buyer. Maybe it's easier for the dev to support separate apps too.

And the second reason is due out on Friday.

Soon, all apps will start updating for retina HD display for the iPad3. I'd rather not have all my iPhone apps increase in size for a device I don't have. Space is getting scarcer and scarcer these days, so every little bit helps. And from what I understand - it's not just a little space they're adding, but LOTS. those retina assets....

Gearing up for my iPad this Friday, and kinda just looking up games that I might purchase when it arrives.

Really have a SRPG itch, any nice recommendations? Not FFT please. :P

Yeah, they're auto-collected after awhile, it just gets in the way and is annoying. Whatever. (re: freemiums)

And I hate to bring up this oft-mentioned topic, but I have yet to put my two cents into the ring since I was a bystander of the first big Universal flare-up.

Reasons why I hate non-universal:

1. Segregated leaderboards (big drawback for me since I like competition even though I suck at it)
2. More expensive (not a huge deal, but worth noting - a game like MotoHeroz or Run Roo Run** should be same price for both versions, regardless of the reason for being separated)*
3. Saves can be transferred in some cases
4. Universal is just easier and better for the consumer - buy in iTunes once & done

I can understand why it's good and the limitations and blah blah blah, but meh. I'm much more inclined to buy a Universal app like Mass Effect: Infiltrator than if it had separate versions because: A. if I don't like it on iPhone (controls, screen size etc.), I can play on iPad and vice versa, B. I click download in iTunes, and it's instantly there on both devices, effortlessly.

*IF both versions are priced the same, then it makes it much more palatable in my book. But the fact that so many HD apps are priced 2, 3, even 4 times the price of the iPhone version? If there's added features or extra stuff in the iPad version, then hell, yeah, inflate away. But paying more for the same exact game? That's what pisses me off. (To me, bigger screen does not always equal a higher price) At the very least, if you are going to price your game higher, make the HD version universal, and I'm fine with the iPhone version being separate - much like what Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery did. (Although I think Run Roo Run devs said it's not that simple? idk)

**leaderboard-based games

Pick me apart, thread.

Agreed.....really fun so far... The only thing that concerns me is the $3.99 car max options.... It's such a leader board game that it seems like the iap might tilt the balance.

A few things...

Fuck me for buying Dodonpachi Resurrection when the HD version was coming out.

Fuck MotoHeroz for not being Universal

Fuck Chaos Rings II for not being Universal

How is Smash Cops anyway? It's on sale.

I'm drowning in my iOS backlog. I swore I wouldn't buy any games until I'd finished and deleted at least 5 but MotoHeroz broke my resolve.

I need to hire a PA to organise this shit for me.

"It's Tuesday Dave, don't forget to complete Broken Sword 2 and Waking Mars!".

For those seeking some great adventure games for iPad, iPhone: Kaptain Brawe is also awesome. Sometimes it tries too hard to be an oldskool LucasArts game, but what the heck. The result is really nice if you ask me. Also, those Hector games look really good.

A game backlog planning app would be ace. Set up genres, priorities, tap into your calendar and give you reminders/suggestions.

Good stuff!

We use really good quality whips and chains.

Kudos!
The only thing I want from you now is some way to play Zen Puzzle Garden without buying an iPad...
I have an iPod Touch, a Galaxy Nexus, a Vita, a 3DS and a TF101 Transformer - the ONE portable device I don't have and you make it an exclusive ;_;

Make it happen.

Galaxy on Fire 2 just got an iPad retina update as well. If nothing new comes out, I now know what I'm playing tomorrow. The Adult Swim stuff mentioned is awesome too...one of my favorite iOS devs.

I just realized that they removed Faerie Solitaire from the store, and deleted it from my purchase history. Why did they do that?

any updates?

maybe it was a false app, made by someone who did not have copyright to the game and just wanted to steal some money?
these are super common in chrome app store and appears from time to time in apple app store (see pokemon and counterstrike)

did you at least get your money back since it was deleted from your purchase history?

edit: it appears their website is down as well. Looks like something really shitty has happened.
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://subsoap.com/

they do acknowledge that Faire Solitaire is down but no info on why

faerie alchemy is still up though

So this game is currently no 1 in a lot of european countries. Its a machine simulator of european type that has previously been on PC.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/machine-world/id493849232?mt=8

whats interesting though is that it looks like it is using voxels for the landscape. Is this correct and why are not more games using voxels considering it would be better for the smaller format screen providing a more natural look.

Man, I'm really bummed about the DDP Resurrection HD release. It'd be fine if it was IAP for the existing one or somehow discounted for existing users, but instead they're charging full price for everyone. Will wait until it's either a buck or... well.. not at all.

I don't know what it is or what it's supposed to do but I think I want it. It does look like voxels, too. I <3 voxels. Comanche RIP.

So thinking about retina graphics and retro gaming as well as retro style gaming.

Please please, make it an option to have a black bar around or below the gaming screen and have the controls in the black frame.

OK, as soon as this hits the UK store my backlog will grow one bigger. Looks cool.

Monsters Ate My Condo got an update adding support for higher resolutions for the new iPad today :)

Will buy now.

Yeah, and it's no longer 'HD', which is going to be weird for a lot of poorly titled apps. I'm not going to even bother with Cave games on anything but my iPod. I'm sure DDP HD will look horrendous on the new iPad. I'd love to be wrong....

As in, because it's HD for 4S and iPad 2, but not HD for iPad 3? Yeah, that's gonna cause a whole wave of confusion for all involved. I'd wager there'll be a bunch of owners in the near future that'll be upset their "HD" game isn't native res on their new iPad.

That, or devs will basically be forced to update their HD apps to newHD.

YMMV but I found it pretty dull, and the control method suffers from hot sticky finger syndrome.

I'm really loving Leage of Evil 1 & 2, I just wish it was on PC so I can use a 360 pad. I still can't work out how to get past those rotator things in LoE1, they always get me.

Love that theme song.

I think those rotator things are totally busted in 1, the collision detection is so unfair. I much prefer how they handle them in 2, much more fun to deal with.

Can't know without seeing it on my ipad (which I never will, unless they use the engine for a different game) but those machine world screens could also indicate the use of Torque engine or an engine with similar terrain, so not necessarily voxels.
Join the winning team. Once you play iOS games on iPad it's impossible to go back to iPod touch/iPhone!
I disagree, I have an iPad2 and as far as gaming goes I often wish I had a Phone or Pod Touch, especially for games that use virtual controls and relegate them to the bottom of the screen or similar, it seems like it'd be much more comfortable to reach everything without hassle. The same for games that use the gyro controls, it should be much easier to handle a smaller device. I mainly see the size benefit in things like browsing and other point & click based functions and games.

Edit: oh, the guy got a Windows 7/8 tablet, that seems inifnitely more useful even if it ends up being slightly less stylish (I don't think so) or user friendly (and cheaper!). Loads of open source software, complete sharing/compatibility between his desktop stuff, all the quality free games he could want, not to mention real PC games (mostly from gog, but also new adventure and indie games he could even play with a gamepad if they're suited to that I imagine) which should be fine on a touch device with their mouse bias.
