CBS Interactive (GameSpot parent company) buys Giant Bomb

The big downer with this acquisition as far as GB is concerned is that from now on the site's future is linked to CBS inetractive's financial health. All it would take is a bad year for them and GB could disappear.
start a new site again. they can do it!

Sounds like a better boat to be on than attached to Whiskey's financial health.

Oh yeah for sure. All I'm saying is that in the long term mergers & acquisition sometimes don't end well, and it's something we should keep in mind for the future.

Apparently on Tested all of the old subscriber videos will now be for everyone to see. Get to finally watch the Bricked series.

If GB did the same with their videos that'd be great

Now that is depressing me.

The thing is GiantBomb has the hammer. They broke off from GameSpot and already created their own website. Theres no reason they can't do it again. If anything bad were to happen it would probably be GiantBomb breaking off and doing their own thing again, whether or not the brand came with them.

I'll never understand this gif.

Whats the alternative? Watch the site run out of money and die?

This. And I suspect it was about to happen too. Shelby Bonnie probably gave Whiskey Media a certain timeline to start turning a profit and unfortunately it looks like it didn't happen.

So instead of shuttering the doors, turning off the lights and walking away, he tried to salvage his investment by selling it off wholesale or piece by piece which actually turned out to be the latter.

Sucks, but that's the reality of business. Just be happy they are being given a chance to survive elsewhere.

Tested and Giantbomb splitting up is depressing. The two sites worked so well together. I can see Screened being shuttered (with Alex leaving) but Tested's news is AMAZING.

Ralph is taking part in a focus group. He is so distraught by what he's seeing that he is crying with his head in his arms, and repeatedly putting his focus group dial on "red", indicating his disapproval with what is going on. If he were more satisfied, he would have kept the dial higher on the scale, or turned it to "green" to indicate his full approval.

:lol

Someone mentioned a stream of John Davison talking about the deal on their end, is there a link to that anywhere?

So has anyone bought GiantGameBombSpot.com yet?

Also I finished watching the video... yeah I got hope.

What they need to do to really ensure fans that things are "ok" is to kick of a new Jeff/Vinny ER the second they have the couch and capture gear in the new old office.

Uhm this must have already been posted, I did a search in this thread to try and find it but nothing.....

Be sure to check back at 4PM PDT, when we'll be addressing my termination. Finally! The story can be told!

megaton?

This is quite depressing. I'm sure the GB crew will keep their audience as priority number one, but the same cannot be said for their corporate overlords.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

They will do it without my support. Alot of fans subscribed specifically because we liked what Jeff and crew were doing, not because we wanted to support a start up brand. If they just want to sell to a big media outlet like every other entrepreneur, that's fine, but they don't need my donation or anybody else's. We gave them that money specifically so they could remain I dependent and keep doing what they had a passion to do.

It turns out that they care more about "gettin paid" than they do being a good steward of the environment they fostered.

This wasn't about getting paid it was about ensuring Giant Bomb's survival.
Your support made them last as long as they did.

But.. in the gif he does turn it to green for a slight instant.

Is he enjoying his own suffering?

I'M SO CONFUSED.

As long as Davison doesn't leave this could be interesting.

and it must be arkward going back to the same place you left/quit from (Jeff, Ryan, Vinny, Brad and Alex)
