Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

Serious question here...

I personally do not like Comics, so I view the Comic Vine portion of the Whiskey Media family to be the weakest site they offered. Am I alone in this feeling, or do people really have that big of an attachment towards comics?

CV was just as big as GB, different audiences.

Second biggest Whiskey Media site. It's very much a seperate entity to the other Whiskey sites, they didn't even get involved in the last Happy Hour.

Rorie with the Philippe icon and that comment is definitely bumming me out. Dude is probably wearing his "I'm the guy who sucks plus I got depression" shirt.

I really don't pay attention to tech, but I loved watching Tested stuff. I can't say the same about CV. So many of their articles seemed incredibly stupid whenever I saw them in the lower bar.

Stuff like, "Is it really a good idea to keep supervillians in Arkham?"

Just really silly stuff that seemed more like a forum thread than an editorial.

You can't get a refund right? My yearly subscription ends in September. I don't know. It's weird. Gamespot Total Access isn't what I paid for. I don't want that. The point of giving them my money was basically to support Giant Bomb's continued endeavors. But you could say I've been getting and will continue to get my money's worth in that regard. I feel weird about getting bummed out about being forced to get Gamespot Total Access for free.

Tested + Mythbusters has got to be the best thing coming out of this.

I'm really glad GB is staying together, more or less, but still really bummed how this has all turned out.
You guys are pretty much my favorite thing about the internet (except for GAF) and I'll stick with you all to the bitter end.

Haha, I do the same. That and listen to years-old podcasts all day at work.
GB content never really gets old. Always fun to watch/listen to.

That's so sad. I really like Rorie. I think the Horrible Nonsense stream endeared him to me.

...which makes me wonder if we'll keep getting random content like that. Still one of my favourite archived vids to watch/listen to when I'm getting work done.

You aren't being forced to get anything. The Total Access is a thank you and they made it a coupon so if you don't want it, don't use it.

@coonce: Thank you for all your hard work, your "TOP MEN" work has made WM a pleasure to be part of.

Thank YOU guys for showing up and loving us so much.

Seeing this community grow to where it is now has been nothing but amazing for us to watch. I feel fortunate to have been a part of it.

Trust me, the pleasure is all on this side of the table.

I've followed this guys since the Gamespot days and i'll keep supporting them whatever they want to do.

I trust them to make it awesome.

I just hope they leave the GS staff out of GB for the most part. People hate Alex? Hate Patrick? At least they are competent. I watched On the spot a few months ago and wanted to puke it was so bad. Kevin VanOrd is ok.

Jeff read a comment of mine from the chat and it made Rorie laugh! I was floating on air for weeks.

You aren't answering his question.

Whiskey didn't go bankrupt, they got split up and bought. The subscription was positioned as a cross-site subscription for all the Whiskey sites, it would be nice if they did something other than offer people a more limited service as a "thank you".

I know some people were subscribed through 2013 or 2014 after the Thanksgiving/Christmas sale. They should really refund the unused amortized portion of people subs.

So let me see if I've got this straight:

  • GB wasn't making money (or enough money) in its current incarnation
  • Gamespot buys them out thinking they can turn it around
  • GB claims it's going to be the same old site we know and love
That makes no sense.

That's because item #1 wasn't stated anywhere, and by most indications is probably false. Based on that it's natural that the two other points make no sense.

Matt Rorie needs to have a successful website so he can be paid more so he can have a big apartment so he can fill it with puppies.

MATT RORIE DESERVES THAT MUCH

Our new digs. For now, anyway. The core of Giant Bomb is already at work.

It's weird to think about the Giant Bomb guys sitting at proper desks.

Like... MY desk looks like that. Giant Bomb duders shouldn't sit at desks that resemble mine!!!

Err, you're still getting the all the sites if you are a subscriber. And they said that 98% of subscribers came from Giantbomb anyway.

The livestream said that there's going to be some construction, so I assume they'll change things up a bit from the cubes.

Keep in mind, it sounds like this deal was super hush hush, as the Gamespot staff only heard it was happening an hour before it was announced.

Horrible Nonsense is now my new favorite thing!

For those who remember from the STO TNT a while back, Cards Against Humanity is back on sale on Amazon right now.

Wow.

How many times have we heard... "Nothing is going to change".

They are always changes, hopefuly they are good and they leave GB and Tested alone as possible.

oh wow so they actually moved from the classic GB offices. I really liked that place, with the couch and stuff, and the brick wall, etc.

That office is gone and closed at this point. All the sites are out of it.

During the livestream they talked about how they're a little worried because any mail going to that office will no longer be able to reach them.

As far as I know, all the premium content from the sites headed to BremenBraun(?) is being uploaded to youtube as we speak. Which makes it seem like those sites are done with premium content.

Also, how would they know which sites people subscribed for, because of that survey? I subscribed to support Whiskey as a whole, and watched the premium stuff on every sight bar comic vine.

I'm just saying, in light of the major, major restructuring, it would be nice if they offered the choice of continuing their subscription in the form of Gamespot Pro or whatever it's called, or have the unamortized portion refunded.

Legally they aren't required to do anything, as they didn't guarantee anything in exchange for the subscription, but it's kind of what I'd expect a company like Whiskey to do.
