Bloomberg Rumor: Xbox 720 unveiling at E3 2013, launching in the same year

Bloomberg has updated its article with more from two unnamed sources 'with knowledge of the matter'.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-...-be-discussing-new-xbox-at-e3-conference.html

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) will release the next version of its Xbox console in 2013 at the earliest, as the company squeezes at least one more year of sales out of its current model, said two people with knowledge of the matter.

The company may show the successor to its Xbox 360 at next year’s E3 conference in June 2013 and put it on sale that same year, said the people, who declined to be named because the plans are confidential.

Since this is a rumor instead of a confirmed statement, we might as well make it separate.

They sort of did this with the Xbox 360, since their MTV event was in the same month as E3.

Latter half of 2013 sounds about right. Wonder if they'll tease anything at this year's E3, or just wait for the full blowout at next year's E3.

Hope the tablet controller on this thing has clicky sticks, unlike the Wii U. I like to play my COD games where I can run/aim and go prone in a split second.

that actually sounds like a good plan, but I'm so put off to the idea of buying another microsoft console again =/

I've had 3 RLOD on my 360. but I still love it. It sucks, but those 2 weeks I'm down, lets me play some PC/PS3 games and I don't see them making the same mistake twice.

NO X720 in 2012 : Who needs a new hardware anyway wake me up in 2014 when real next gen starts

Rumor X720 in 2013 : Woohoooo! ahem....New Hardware is actually very important to and this year will make a huge difference in bla bla bla etc etc etc.

Seems like a good idea. This year really feels like the final push for the machine with Halo 4 coming out in the fall.

Happened with PS2, Xbox, and PS3. Also Dreamcast, I think.

It'll happen with Wii U as well, which may be the first console to be playable at E3 two years in a row, before even launching in any territory. Though that's probably because it was originally intended to launch by July 2013, but I digress.

So, Wii U will have E3 for itself... Microsoft and Sony will do nothing, not even mention that they will have a new console which consumers should be hyped and wait for, instead of buying Nintendos new console Wii U.

Yeah... I don´t know what they are selling, but I don´t buy it. Sony might not show anything(expect them to mention something though), but I fully expect Microsoft to show something about the next Xbox at this years E3.

Sounds like a perfect plan for me.

2012 - Buy the WiiU
2013 - Buy the Xbox720
2014 - Buy the PS4

A nice spread.

Sony and MS may be completely comfortable competing with Wii-U using much cheaper PS3s and 360s if Wii U doesn't mark a transition for third parties. If Wii U doesn't usher that in at E3, I think Nintendo will have the uphill climb, and will have to produce their own launch phenom to persuade people of the system's place.

I would say there's a whole heap of pressure on Nintendo now to show and prove at E3 that 'next gen starts with them'. If they don't they could be in a challenging place.

Surely they are trying to line this up with Halo 5 as close as possible, especially if the WiiU has any kind of momentum during their launch window.

And what if Nintendo does prove that next gen starts with them? Than what?
You expect Microsoft and Sony will take that risk?

Microsoft, that knows what a year headstart means, will just do the waiting game this time around? I don´t see it.

MS will probably be fine despite launching a year late, unless Nintendo manages to do just about everything perfectly going into this gen.

Next gen does start with the Wii U - there's really no disputing that. Whether the power differential will drive consumer adoption over the current gen consoles is another matter for discussion.

Microsoft know that a year's headstart... can be overtaken.

Personally for me if the next box launches a year after wiiu then it's because MS are definitely launching a console that's a lot more powerful.
I can wait for that.

Definitely? You mean most likely.

It never will. It's always the software you sell the consumer.

Why? I'd say it was one of the best.

This gen is extremely long in the tooth. Sales this year (across the board) will show that rather clearly as will franchise fatigue.
