Final parameters are still being discussed, sources said, but one scenario on the table is a five-year deal worth in excess of $30 million with a team option in the fifth year.

Over $30 million for Wilson Chandler? lol.

All i'm gonna say about the Lakers moves today is to look at the bottom line. These were done for Financial Reasons, not Basketball Reasons. Sessions and Hill won't change the fate of a single game this playoffs. Greatest "fanbase thinks this is to make the team better, ignorance is bliss" move since the Pistons traded for Iverson.

You are completely and undeniably wrong.

You're absolutely right.

um i just woke up and see the Rockets traded for dereck fisher. am i still dreaming?

please tell me this is a joke

Watch the press conference.

You're absolutely right.

Actually, Lakers-Age already mentioned this a few pages ago, about Fisher's player option, etc. Luke is also gone. But we also got better players. Win.
MWP will be amnestied too.

I can't wait until you guys realize how bad Fisher is. Career nights for all PGs against him.

Also, remember that Phil's triangle actually made everyone seem better than they actually were. Remember Smush and Kwame were "okay" while playing with the Lakers. They got even worse after they left.

Farmar, Sasha and Shannon all disappeared after they left the Lakers too.

So yes, Sessions is a huge upgrade.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE fisher but it's not his time to shine (or start) anymore. I would love to have him back as a coach though.

fake edit: Smush was never picked up by any team afterwards, right? The dude got paid 250k to start... lowest paid starter in the league.

Portland fleeced New Jersey. Gerald Wallace has underperformed since he was an all star and Portland is going to get an extremely high draft pick and expiring contracts for him.

No. The wanted to upgrade their roster while saving money.

I like the sessions trade.

I understand the Fisher Trade, but am not sure I like it. We gave up a pick and got next to nothing back just to dump fishers salary and possibly save some drama of having someone start over him. It makes sense when thinking about cap space and such, I just with Fish could have retired a Laker. He's one of my all time favorite Lakers.

I'm curious to see how they play from here on out. I'm curious to see how having a functional point gaurd will affect our offense and Kobe's game.

How many games do you think Sessions and Hill will swing this postseason?

Addition by subtraction only gets you so much. At the end of the day, TP and Westbrook will still abuse the fuck out of him.

Sessions is the difference between Westbrook and TP dropping 40 and dropping 25. Fish is a corpse when guarding anyone, an average PG that can pass and dribble up the court without taking 8 seconds off the clock is an upgrade.

You guys are seriously underrating Fishers awfulness. Sessions is going to get open shots for players off of drives, when Fish drove to the basket he would either miss a layup or try a lob that ends up in the basket.

They don't have to swing anything, by being average, it naturally elevates our core to be better.

Again, he can throw an entry pass and hit an open jumper, and not let other PGs drop career highs on the regular, this is an upgrade.

We wouldn't need so many Kobe heroics if his partner in the backcourt didn't give up 30+ to

Lin
Calderon
Jack

Off the top of my head.

Lakers can put Kobe on YNB like they did 2 years ago and Kobe was on one knee.

the Lakers problem isn't defense, it's offense. Fisher has been killing them there. Yes, Fisher is the worst defensive PG getting minutes, and Sessions is a slight upgrade by default there, but lakers defense survives with the height and MWP/Barnes rotation.

But if Sessions can give them any kind of scoring punch and if Metta/Barnes can give them offense in 4 games out of 7, Lakers are legit again.

Fisher became a non-shooting shooter who was too slow to run a break and turnover prone this year.

And if Sessions is allowed to play on the bench, there will be less issues there.

Believe me, I know it's for the better. I welcome it as a Lakers fan who wants them to improve. But it's still sad, so many great moments over the years.

Aside from the everyday grinding over the seasons, a few defining moments:

0:04
2 x clutch threes in the Finals against ORL
Scola elbow to the chest

Boston celtics game 3, layup on pierce, rondo and garnette!

Game 7 clutch three to tie the game after making a comeback.

Sooo.... you're contenders now? No.

As a matter of fact, looooooooool no

I don't know if they're contenders. But I would say it's possible.

Depends on Sessions fits in and is used.

If MWP/Barnes can give them 4 games out of 7 and Sessions gives average production, then yes.

Remember when everyone here called Boston dead going into 2010?

You guys when your employer deems you too old or too expensive for your position, they will fire you. They will not care if you saved them $500K 3 years ago in insurance premium negotiations!!!!

Why are we acting like its a funeral. I'm 35 been watching Lakers since 1986. When they were out of the playoffs, I was out of the playoffs. That said.........salary dump or what ever it was......He was the worst statistical PG in the entire league. Every other teams PG always had career number against us.

Thank you Fish. Good luck. See you soon.

Does anyone think the Spurs are crazy enough to think they could go after Dwight in a year?

That's the plan. Duncan is a FA after this year. He could hang around another year and talk Dwight into joining like Robinson talked Duncan into staying.

I wouldn't say the Lakers are contenders, but they're definitely one of those playoff teams you'd rather not play against.

If they win, it'll be like Dallas did it last year. Unexpected and from behind.

Kobe likes that better anyway/

Fisher made every player look like Salty Deron.

Jarret jack, Stuckey, Teague, Calderon, Lin, Nelson, Reddick

And a ton of bench guards got easy buckets in addition to those guys.

....what does that have to do with anything?

I understand the jubilee now that Career Night w/ Derek Fisher is over - but that's been more of a regular season thing more than anything else. Sessions... is still Sessions - the very definition of mid-tier PG. He's not even George Hill/Jarret Jack good.

Hell, if Vinny wasn't coaching the Clippers, I'd pick them over LA any day. But that's a bet to be made later.

lol nba.com

The lights are on. It looks like this was when the Spurs streamrolled us in 2003.

Cruised?

I don't agree with this one. Outside of Game 2, Fisher did a solid job chasing Allen through screens for 7 games.

Not an easy job.

Allen played ok in G5 too, but the point still stands.
He was harassed pretty hard.

And it's still amazing to watch them walk off the court after G7, shattered.

Hell, if Vinny wasn't coaching the Clippers, I'd pick them over LA any day. But that's a bet to be made later.

I wouldn't. But that's also because they're the Clippers.

Lakers only need a mid-tier PG and some production from the SF spot to be a contender, though.

Bynum-Gasol-Kobe alone puts them ahead of most teams. They have the 3rd best record out West almost solely on their backs.

They will give you a fat Reirement package and send on you on vacation to some exotic carribean island instead of the rockets.
