Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

With that rumor of Nintendo bringing new IPs, and Miyamoto's baby on the way, if any franchise is going on the back-burner, it'll be Star Fox. I bet.

The next Starfox is pretty much guaranteed to be outsourced though. It'll either go to treasure or retro or (heaven forbid) tecmo. Nintendo has made it clear that they have no further interest in developing that franchise in house.

Please NO!!! It would probably ruin me. Skylanders looks really intriguing and fun but I can see that money sink and can stay away. If any Nintendo IP starts doing this (Pokemon we all know its going to next) I'll be homeless

sorry but Sakurai is crazy about content and can create hundreds of characters and monsters
SORA can become as huge as Game Freak

NFC is in the WiiU for a reason and Figure moe zoku Japanese will eat that stuff up

They pretty much have no interest in it at all really, and didn't Miyamoto say the sales of SF643D would determine the franchises fate?

That is the opposite of what was mentioned. Miyamoto expressed concern the games were being developed outside his jurisdiction. Which they were by being handled by Nintendo SPD. But Star Fox 64 3D was brought back into Nintendo EAD (although Q-Games co-developed it).

Next Star Fox will be developed through EAD. Someone else being involved is likely but it is still a different scenario than how Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox Assault were developed.

I hope Takamaru makes it into Smash Bros. But I thought Murasame Castle and Detective Club would be perfect for come backs.

Hell yes, Takamaru bros in the house. :lol

I need my fast draw swordsman style to compliment my flowing elegant swordsman main in Marth. Lyn was so close to being what I wanted, but Takamaru would be even more hype for me.

As for Next Gen even with WiiU getting a head start Nintendo is entering HD for the first time while MS and Sony are veterans at this already it won't be easy for Nintendo to keep a sales lead

On the other hands hardware cycles might not be synchronised any more. That means Wii U releases this year. Xbox 360 next year, and ps4 in 2014 or maybe 2015 (Argument sake). Nintendo might start of a new hardware cycle in 2016. While the other consoles have some life left in them. Stalling hardware sales of the competitors, and consumers will be in a nut-shack, as well as developers, they wont know which hardware to support anymore.

now that I think about it the subscreen is a perfect portal. Put the Pokemon on the screen, the screen shows cool portal animation and transports Pokemon into game. This is Def gonna happen no question

personally i think that the skylander approach would totally kill the pokemon franchise... you cannot expect people to buy each of the 152 pokemon in the pokedex... that would totally drive the franchise into the dust...

And StarTropics, because StarTropics. :P

This is now my de facto answer for these topics regarding old Nintendo IP resurrections. Mystery At Murasame Castle or just something involving awesome action slaher/platforming with Takamaru is runner up.

Your avatar.. is that Mike with a Pokeball yo-yo?

Pokemon NFC-based figurines will cause damage to the Japanese infrastructure.

My bet is that Smash Bros Wii will be the first to use NFC-based figurines to give 3rd Parties a chance to get in the game

then Pokemon will kill Otaku Land

Followed by all the MOE NFC-based figurines with major boobies

LOVE PLUS WiiU

And many Ninja Boobie figurines to follow

I don't see Nintendo passing that up if the tech is there and these thing may be sold at premium prices too *Shudder*

this would be WiiU's hidden secret to surpassing even Wii sales

Buy them in packs like the cards, they be random, can trade with freinds for the ones you want.

I dunno. I just doubt it. My hopes for starfox have been beaten down and crushed too many times :-(

But knowing Nintendo, there could be a cap on usage, 1 use per account, etc. EDIT: Was there a thing like that on eReader? Never had one.

Off topic: Australia didn't get Game Gear on eShop this week, enjoy 'em ya lucky bastards! D:

I think part of the issue is that there's no concrete feel for what the series is anymore. Is it a Zelda clone? Is it a space shooter? A third-person shooter?

You know, I'm honestly not surprised regarding the recent news on 1T-SRAM. I figured something like this was in mind from way back in OT2 when a more attentive me was speculating with bg on the types of RAM to be seen in the console. The 28nm comment though definitely threw a curveball in any initial guesses I put out though.

Slight tangent: Come on 32MB eDRAM + 1.5-2GB GDDR3/5 with a good SPU/ROP number.

Your avatar.. is that Mike with a Pokeball yo-yo?

It's Mike with his traditional yo-yo circled by a ring of Marvel VS. Capcom 3 characters if we're to be specific. :P

but still you'd kill a mechanic of the game... you won't have to really catch your pokemons anymore... and it's not really practical to carry around all your pokemon cards to play the game...

i think that this approach will be successful used in a lot of games, i'm just not too sure that pokemon is the right fit for it.

Ok. I have little understanding of how BC is effected by this.

I don't think it should be if they can easily replace the 3MB framebuffer. Ideally, they'll be able to use the GPU's eDRAM to sub for the 24MB they integrated into Hollywood. Maybe they'll integrate it entirely into the memory controller for the eDRAM pool.

But then you have to factor in the cost of the plastic, the packaging, shipping, buying large amounts of shelf space.

OR

You can just print up some cards, ship and sell them cheaply and people will buy them in the millions.

regardless if they go AR cards route and not toys they have set up all the needed tech to make a killing

they seem to be going AR cards with KI already and when the Pokemon versions of those fighing cards hit WOW

still the NFC-based figurines thing will be exploited by someone on the WiiU it might as well be Nintendo even if the have to open dozens of NINTENDO WORLD STORES to do it... APPLE DID it and now are huge Nintendo can become a monster too

but still guys, wouldn't figurines steal away a core game mechanic from pokemon?
you won't have to ever catch you pokemons again, you'd just have to buy them... and wouldn't be not practical to carry around your cards to play? [i'm speaking about an hypothetical pokemon game for a handheld of course]

Plus, Nintendo has been making cards for 100 years... They still do it in Japan.

StarFox could be THE game to demonstrate all of what Wii U is if people would be a little creative:

- Excellent graphical showcase with the scale of the levels and number of enemy units on screen at a time. Great audio and VA clarity thanks to roomy discs and HDMI digital audio support.

- Four player online multiplayer/coop with each padlet having real time video feed of your four person party chatting it up and playing along with you, thus showing off Wii U's online potential.

- Asymmetric game play where padlet controls Great Fox and players try to play different flight combat modes like capture the (moving) flag or main game coop with Great Fox dropping bombs on things or leaving care packages to underperforming squad members

Basically, take StarFox 64 as a base, add liberal amounts of online interaction and new campaign material, drop everything that isn't Top Gun tier one liners an a simple "omg, we're getting fucked up! StarFox group, go and fuck them up harder!" for the story, keep the different ship mechanics, drop on foot missions unless they get all Sin & Punishment styled and to accommodate online, maybe make factions like the Star Fox 4 man cell, the Star Wolf four person cell, and maybe one or two more cells (Bill & four randoms from the space fleet at Katina/Katt & some randoms for the last group?) to accomodate 12 - 16 player madness in multiplayer or different campaigns for the coop main game.

It wouldn't be for a main game, obviously.
More like for some kind of TCG. With online and maybe AR.

you can't use the toy unless you caught them in game?

if you scan the toy and you have not caught it in game you can only use them at the stadium for a single fight leaving the core game alone

oh ok, that's makes sense

what would be the point of having the card/toy then? better stats if you have the card of the pokemon you own?
