Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

I'm gunna swing the asshole who thought it was a good idea not to release Game Gear on 3DS this week in AU.

Ooh, something cheesy you say?

Rosti seriously doesn't get the credit he deserves. He doesn't just speculate, he investigates. Like, true-blue investigations. He writes to lawyers for info... lawyers! Too often we take the info without so much as a "thank you" to good ol' Rosti.

Rosti, thank you.

EDIT: Did you guys click that government link where he got that info from? That is some seriously dense stuff. How does he find it?

Agreed. Thanks, Rosti. He's the hero we deserved :)

Do tell.. I don't lurk on here 19 hours a day expecting 100% non-cheeziness!

edit: wait.. are you about to get sleepy?

...

And heavy praise for Rosti. Lots of digging and footwork and knowing-where-to-look..

No im not sleept, I shall reveal the cheezy in a few posts... :P Its a special surprise for you guys.

Ooh, something cheesy you say?
Yes although it does not include space cheese, even though its quite spacey, like mass effect 3, and everything is pretty much dead.

Excellent.. hehe..

Side question: what the hell happened today with gaming media outlets? Are we going to see more consolidation? I've kept my mouth shut today on the issue, but quietly wonder how it's going to change coverage.

I kinda hope we start seeing good movie adaptations with games, (yeah right!).
I had an idea that I posted in the last thread that I thought would be really cool, but knowing devs, they'll just rush some shitty on-screen stuff and call it a day.

Bwahahahaha, I have yet to see a good game adapted from a movie. The closest for me was LOTR on GBA but that was mainly because of the Diablo inspired lootwhore gameplay. I really wish they were better though.

You're assuming devs will even port stuff to the Wii U. I mean we've already had Crystal Dynamics' shitty excuse. We'll get more "Our devs want to create something truly unique and innovative with the Wii U controller but we haven't thought of anything yet so no Wii U port" BS in the future...

I agree. I definitely wouldn't want him to feel like he's being taken for granted.

The cheesy,spacey thing Ive promised:

neogaftrain.jpg

Ive made it just for you guys :P

Nice!

It's the NintendoGAF Hype Train, rusting in the desert!

After reading about The Last Ranger online for part of today, the post-apocalyptic theme is kinda fitting.

(we need the NeoGAF man crawling on his hands and knees in the pic somewhere..)

\

Hahah, niiiiice. Also, what does the Hangul translate to on the side? I know it reads Hanseok, but I can't translate. T_T

No idea, it was the best rusting train I found on the internet. so I took it and edited it. The scrapes were already there, I didn't remove them because I found them fitting :-)

OVERHYPED! nah, kidding, nice shop :P

are you making fun of us ;_;

Nah, I was feeling artsy, but if you think about it Shepard did kill off all technology, so the train had to crash land somewhere xD

Sooooo...clicky sticks, who needs em, amirite?

*Groan* We're going in circles yet again.

I'd rather Nintendo adopt them just to shut up the possible 3rd party excuse of "controller's not standard, we're too lazy to think of putting giant virtual buttons on the screen". Clickable circle pads work too.

Adding click to my favorite control scheme? Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss~
Circle pads, not the uPad. Knowing Australia, we won't get to demo until like the week before launch and get ass-raped with the launch price.

Yep, Australia's going to rape us so hard with the launch price. $599 confirmed?

Holy crap, and I was thinking of getting a new iPad. :/

We need to get back on the hype train.

I was looking at some old threads, and it looks like the 01net report that predicted damn near everything right about Project Cafe was released April 15, 2011.

So I'm expecting some solid news next month. Not to mention Nintendo will have their official fiscal year financial results briefing as well. Just have to grind it out for a few more weeks.

Save us 01net!

Considering the briefing thing is next month, I'm hoping for big news too.

^^It's spot on. Not to mention they also totally called the circle pad pro before anyone else. They guys have the goods.

We seem to have a "struggling in the desert" theme going for this thread. I have a request for a gif if anyone is up to it.

The desert scene in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly where Tuco is torturing Blondie and taunting him. Try watching that scene and imagine Blondie as the personification of Wii U GAF. So good.

Who's Tuco in this metaphor, and what does that imply with respect to the end of the film?

Remember the first Project Cafe mockup on IGN (the CCP one)? Add some triggers, some analog bumpers (pretty sure the final build will have 'em and clickable circle pads), keep the smaller screen and I think we have our GCN/U CC controller.

lol, first two responses in that thread are from banned people :-P

Reading through those rumors, it seems obvious in hindsight that all the spec talk was referring to targeted specs, not actual specs since very little had been finalized by that point.

I still wonder about that rumor we got awhile back that by E3 2011, nintendo had simply told devs to target something close to 360 as a baseline and that improvements have been substantial ever since. It adds up to the idea that the system was still very much an alpha model at the time of E3. It's still hard to believe that ubisoft only got to see the actual controller prototype days before they held a demonstration.

Nintendo really weren't ready for unveiling Wii U at E3 2011. The system's still in alpha, the 3rd parties have barely started on it. Geez, they really shouldn't have given that half-baked presentation but I guess they had no choice due to the massive amount of leaks.

I'm extremely curious about how the bird demo came to be. It was obviously worked on up until the last possible minute, evidenced by the stage demo being noticeably inferior to the floor demos. What kind of hardware was targeted in the creation of that demo? Could the framerate issues been fixed if the team had had more time? Were there effects that were planned but never added because of a lack of time? Honestly, the stage demo was an embarrassment. They showed off a clearly half baked tech demo in an auditorium fill of scrutinizing journalists.

Makes sense though, 360's been selling pretty well lately, there is no need for them to release a new system. At least not yett

But it is starting to decline, they don't want it to competely drop off before their next one is ready. Sony and MS both still have room for price cuts to help push them along until next year but with competitions new machine getting close they can't just do nothing.

fixed

Honestly when looking at all the available info, I really do believe Nintendo didn't know exactly what they wanted to go with and only went with just enough in the early kit like the rumor you were talking about. Devs had to find out on their own what the GPU was in the dev kit.

Those leaks didn't have anything to do with it IMO. They occurred in April and here is an article in March where it was said Nintendo would possibly reveal Wii U at E3.

We'll see at E3.

I personally don't see MS giving Nintendo any leeway if WiiU looks to be a serious next gen contender. If we get a Fusion reveal at E3 we know they consider it a potential threat. If we get a full reveal and nebulous 2012 launch date* they consider it a huge threat.

*subject to change.
