In an ideal world. But then Pop, Phil, Sloan, Riley would win ever year. It's like the MVP...goes to the feel good story / new guy / overachieving team. If it was just best player Kobe/Shaq would have more than 1 a piece.

And Spo...eh. They still rely on FT's and fast breaks. Their half court offense still blows which is why they still lose close games so often. There are probably 10 coaches in this league that would do a better job with the Heat roster, I'm sure of that

Are you so sure? Name them and why their system would be better. Because i honestly can't. Phil, for managing ego's, but that's really about it.

That doesn't mean Pop wouldn't do better, i think he might be the best coach in the league, but i think Pop would do better with the Memphis roster than the Heats.

Spo is a good coach, the reason they shit the bed in the 4th is because they revert to iso's and retarded "lbj reading the defense" sets.

And the best coached team that year, doesn't mean you have the best coach in the league (if that were so, it would have been pop every year he's been in the league). It just means, that year, that coach, brought the best out their players, in the best way.

Last year, thibs took a bunch of misfits and rose, and turned them into a defensive powerhouse that could last a decade. He earned it last year. He lost it this year when he couldn't figure out how to count minutes.

This place must have been crazy after the heat bulls game. Whatever, I am still not scared.

As for everything else, Howard, nice guy but he got screwed. D'Antoni is a smart man, bailed out if that sinking ship.

Is that why the heat have one of the top three effecient offenses in the league? Also lol at 10 coaches. Spo is playing to the teams strengths and getting the team to play superb defense. I don't see how its gets so much better than that all factors considered.

Doug Collins is at least in the discussion for coach of the year. C'mon, people.

Hard to argue against it.

It really depends on how the 76'ers finish the year. If they finish strong...... he really does deserve to, at the least, be in the discussion.

If the Wolves make the playoffs, Coach of the year is for Adelman ... Otherwise? yeah, Collins might be it.

Also, since nobody seems to care in the thread I made (boo!), please check out Drawing Lance! Its a D&D inspired webcomic by my friend Rick Lacy, who incidentally was a character concept artist for Venture Bros and sweet dude all around.

If the wolves make it with out rubio, again, hard to argue against it. But so many of the gains there are because you don't have rambis ><

Also, your friends page would get more constant viewership if i could subscribe to an RSS feed.

OFF TOPIC. This is a basketball thread.

QQ? Gentry out coached Pop for an entire series. Gentry is one of the most under rated coaches going around. If sarver doesn't lock him up for 3 or 4 years, it's a giant mistake.

I really don't know what to think of Telfair or Price. Both played really well in their role for that game. But i don't see a permanent starter in either of them. But i do like it when Telfair plays with confidence. He actually resembles an NBA point guard at times when he does that.

But i think if you have to give one of them big minutes, it's Telfair. One of them spot minutes, it's Price.

I really disagree with most of this.

Gentry is not a terrible coach but he certainly isn't a great one and he didn't out coach Pop for an entire series. Gentry did then what he is still doing now. He likes to play two full units. He doesn't mix up the starters and the bench too often. The difference is that before we had a terriffic bench with a bunch of the people that are now our starters and now we have an absolutely horrendous bench. Gentry has not made any changes to the way we operate with the different personnel. It's the same pattern every game. We go up early and then the bench comes in the 2nd quarter and we go down -10. If we don't have any scoring options, at least throw Childress in there and play better defense.

While Telfair has been playing better lately you can just look at the plus/minus to see that Price is the better player and it's really not even close. Even last night you can see this. With Price in we started our comeback. Telfair was -6. Price was +10.

Easy - FT's and fast breaks. That skews the stats like crazy. Don't compare the Heat's half court offense with something as well coached as the Spurs, the Bulls (offensive rebounds is a part of this), the celtics (one of the highest fg% despite almost only relying on half court sets).

Even D'Antoni's Lin offense for 2 weeks was a better half court offense than the Heat's.

This is why I love Gaf - best record in the league despite missing Rose / Deng for long stretches...has beaten nearly every important team at least once despite not having a clear cut #2...or if it's Deng - a great number two...but his rotations are weird so lulz.

For the record I don't think he gets it, although he is clearly a top 3 coach in this league and will be for a long time. But it's the same SvG hate. 5th best record with a sinking ship...and beaten the Heat twice and the team wins every time they really play despite not having any scorers or defenders outside of Dwight.

And Dwight...all the SVG shit talking about his touches but...this is the first year he has a semi respectable offensive game. If he could hit FT's he'd be at 25 points per game easily

Eh, i think you need to re-watch that spurs series. And the portland series. Gentry does mix up his units when he has too.

But to lambast him for the key to that whole suns run, their depth, is silly.

it would also be silly to say he should play nash and hill 40mpg. They simply can't.

Price was playing against the reserve pg for the most part, and reserve players. Telfair was playing against starters. Going by +/- is very... amateur? for lack of a better expression at 1:30am.

Ok im convinced you are on crack lol.

If we're gonna take those comments at face value, obvious answer is that Deron is going back to Turkey.

Uhh? Dwights post game was fine last year.

And to disregard Thibs running his players into the ground, is sheer lunacy. Part of coaching is injury prevention and fatigue management. Thibs doesn't care, he's going to run you into the ground if you let him. Thats a massive flaw in a lock out shortened year.

I'm not for doing that. It drives me crazy when Brown plays Kobe 52 minutes. But you can't criticize a guy that much for having the best record despite having only one legitimate all star and a team of role players / lazy ass boozer.

Also, SVG doesn't get enough credit for his defensive schemes. He's no Thibs but just having one guy who can defend in Howard doesn't make you a good defense without amazing defensive strategy. Ask Chandler how good the defensive coaching has been in NY

The Magic are always a defensive elite team despite having no perimeter defenders worth a damn. SVG's problem is that the team and individual players quit on him from time to time and put crappy ass lazy efforts in some games. It's not x's and o's

So dat radio guy just said Knicks had discussions about trying to move Melo but met with little to no interest even from contenders who had the spare parts to make a trade.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Welcome to nba hell Melo, say high to Iverson for me.(pun intended)

Marc Berman and others spilled the beans on what folks on the inside have known for years.

-__-, he is the Knicks problem now and the League is laughing.

Deron can do whatever he likes. The team that drafted him traded him to the worst team in the NBA on a whim and for (in my opinion) a bad deal. This despite the fact that Deron led his team to the playoffs and even the WCF with a sidekick that would always half ass games or milk injuries. He doesn't owe anyone in NJ a damn thing. Dwight staying, while stupid, is commendable because you could tell there was a shred of loyalty there.

WTF are you smoking. read my quote...read your reply...lol

Sterling will go back to money saving mode sooner or later.

Some people really don't get that this is their culture, and they always revert.
They are relevant for a few years, then back to "Who cares?" status.

The "takeover L.A." posts were amusing, though.

And good for D.Will, at least he had the balls to say what he really wanted.
The "Monkey Do" comment is pretty telling.

One thing that people thought was funny has actually come true; Hibbert is better than Oden. There were people(a really small amount of people) that thought this would be the case. And it turns out to be true. Hibbert is a defensive anchor with a developing offensive game and could end up being a 15-18ppg 10rpg center. And Oden is probably done.

Shit, its just crazy to think about. And people also thought Bynum was in deeper shit than Oden at one point because Bynum had more injuries than him a few years back. And Brook Lopez is from the same HS class as Oden and was rated second overall behind him as a C. And he had a worse injury in college than Oden's wrist injury or else he probably would have gone top 5 in the Oden/Durant draft. Real crazy when you think about it.

Those people were right.

My people said "knee injury and one leg is shorter than the other? Portland can't be that dumb right? Ohhhh Portland..."

Youre not "better" because you're not injured. If thats how we classify things, Oden is the worst player in NBA history.

Give Oden 5 years of development time with almost no injuries and then make your case. When he was healthy and lost a little weight, he was dominant.
