Yeah, I actually feel bad for the guy, but he was stupid to not just sign the contract they offered him weeks ago.

Somebody should give Alex a hug.

Garrard visiting Miami as well.

Good luck, philbin! Enjoy the owners.

someone shoot me :/

I have no idea what the hell is going on there anymore. I'm on board for Flynn and I'm on board for drafting a QB but first Smith and now Garrard? I'm really curious why negotiations broke down yesterday between Flynn and Dolphins, they were at it all day.

Dolphins don't know what they want :/

only parts of them,
Ross for all the shit he gets understands that a franchise QB is what we need. Yes he went after Manning but if he's healthy then it's understandable why they did.

Philbin understands the QB position since he's had a great QB for the last several years and has seen what it does.

I'm finally coming around to the fact that Ireland just doesn't get it, and think you can just pull a QB out of your ass, or this is just a big giant game of chicken trying to get Flynn to take less. Though there was a rumor that Flynn and his agent wanted 60 mil at least at first so there's that.

Phins should be happy with Small Hands, if they can get him. Flynn's not worth that much, you'd be better off sticking with Moore.

And I really don't think the Niners would let Smith go if they weren't a bit sure they could get Manning. I think that'll get done. And oh shit, now he has Moss/Manningham/Crabtree? fuuuu

Now that does leave Flynn out there, and where does he go? And are those teams (Cleveland? Seattle?) sure he'd really offer a clear upgrade on what they have at what he'd want? He might be in for a rude awakening.

If we lose smith and don't get manning, don't see why we don't roll with kap. Otherwise Hasselbeck is a good option.

yeah we have options. i also wonder if there is any type of disagreement between harbs and baalke on going after manning. i mean it is the right thing to do to improve the team but i know harbaugh likes alex a lot. i guess that's what it takes to be successful as a coach in the nfl.... forming a bond with your players but not getting too attached and able to distinguish friendship and what is best for the team

Eagles re-sign G Evan Mathis to a 5 year deal.

Really was nervous we would lose out to Balitmore for him. It was just one season but he played exceptionally well, especially after a rocky first 2-3 games.

This off-season has been more like a typical Eagles off-season where they re-sign some of their own guys to good long term deals and look towards the draft to improve the problem areas.

So far so good since I have given up complete hope of an improvement at defensive coordinator or the Eagles ever caring enough to invest at the LB position. Still this draft they can't do any worse than last year right? Last year they let all their veteran LBs walk and then drafted Casey Mathews in the 4th round to start at MLB. Was a complete disaster.

Would have loved it if they signed Tulloch or Lofton. Instant upgrade over the mediocre LBs we have. Landry would have been nice to. Defense lacks nasty attitude and he would have at least brought some of that.

Season is going to ride on Reid's crazy offense (again) and big fingers crossed that Juan and crew can figure the D out.

I was really impressed with Alex on that QB power vs NO. The Rams should sign him to be their #1 WR. Or he can play QB and Bradford can be the #1 WR. Either way

Only way I'd be worried of a Niners offense is because of Peyton arriving. Vernon Davis is still a freak of nature, but none of those WR's will scare defenses. You're talking about a 35-year old Moss, who knows how he'll be. More than likely he won't be much more than a 500-700-rec yard guy if somebody other than Peyton being QB. Manningham signing for two years in a year where receivers were overpaid and signed to high priced deals. Why wasn't he one of those? He has issues with drops and learning a playbook. He was still having issues route running last year, his fourth NFL season. Harbaugh could just keep it simple for him, maybe. Just really strange seeing him sign a short-term deal.

He returned punts in High School. Not since though. I think I was actually at the last game he returned a punt in. He zig-zagged backward 20 yards then fumbled. With under two minutes left in a state quarterfinal game with his team down 4 points. It was awesome.
lol

It would certainly make for some interesting trash talk if Hasselbeck ended up in SF and Smith ended up here. I'd prefer to not find out, though.

Lololol. Clusterfuck fire drill.

yep. what will happen is alex will sign with the seachickens, peypey to the titans, hasselbeck to the niners (he gets hurt in the pre-season) and then tolzien leads us to the superbowl. eznark conflicted as tolzien shreds the packers D in the NFC title game!

Have you given up on Kaepernick in Madden and real life?

Conflicted my ass. I'd buy a Scotty Tolzien jersey and renounce Fraudgers.

here is what i have seen from kaepernick in 4 pre-season and 3 regular season appearances:

1. he throws passes at 1 speed: fast. there is not touch on his passes.
2. his pocket presence is bad. his drop back strides are terrible. his strides on his drop backs has been horrible so on a 3 step drop he's still extemely close to the line of scrimmage and has gotten quite a few balls knocked down (even though he's 6'4)
3. had trouble HANDING THE BALL OFF from under center
4. doesn't go through his progressions

now some of this is unfair because he was a rookie coming in from the pistol so i'm willing to give him a chance but we are not in a good spot if he is our starter going into the season

ALEX SMITH UPDATE!

Alex Smith scheduled to visit the Seahawks, too

Free agent quarterback Alex Smith is in Miami visiting the Dolphins on Sunday. If he sticks to his current schedule, that will only be the beginning of Smith’s 2012 free agency tour.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that Smith’s itinerary includes a visit to the Seattle Seahawks this week.

Citing multiple sources, Barrows also reports that Smith is “upset” at the 49ers for their pursuit of top free agent quarterback Peyton Manning, and there is “a growing belief” Smith might not return to San Francisco, even if the Niners whiff on Manning.

Before their aggressive pursuit of Manning, the 49ers had tabled a three-year, $24 million contract proposal to Smith. While interest from Seattle and Miami is somewhat promising, it’s hard to imagine Smith commanding a better offer from either team.

What would the Niners do if they lost out on both Manning and Smith?

The team did trade up into the second round of last April’s draft for Colin Kaepernick. CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco has also suggested the 49ers could reunite coach Jim Harbaugh with free agent Josh Johnson, formerly of the Buccaneers. Johnson was Harbaugh’s quarterback at the University of San Diego.

Johnson has not been drawing much free agent interest.

Good for Alex. He played as well as humanly possible last season and was totally duped by his agent, his organization and pretty much everybody else. A fresh start would be good for him.

And the best Ghibli films - Porco Rosso, Whisper of the Heart and Totoro
