Ya, must of the Potter sets look pretty lame. I wish they'd make a respectable Hogwarts. So whats the move here? I open all the bags and dump all the pieces into one big pile?

Yes!

Also I think the Hogwarts set isn't looking as bad as everyone makes it to be, sure, the scaling is all over the place but at least it looks like the actual Hogwarts buildings.

If I take a glance at the upcoming LOTR sets, that's not exactly a given in the world of Lego :(

Finished the firehouse, it's my first modular, so it was a fun time. Was surprised how fast the 2nd half went together compared to the first half.

Was a really neat build, the stuff on he 2nd floor was all fun to put together.

+the truck

- I feel like it should have come with more minifigs.

Hogwarts isn't terrible, but like you said, the scaling bugs me.

Everything is in one pile! Must keep my two cats away.

Glad you enjoyed it. And glad you found the second floor as much fun as I did.

And I agree. More minifigs would have been nice.

Went to a Lego store earlier today at the mall and seeing a few sets made me just want to buy them. But I didn't :(

I definitely want to build the Robie House and the Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge man. It has nearly double the pieces of any other set near that price. A steal if you think of it that way.

Picked up some unexpected goodness from 5 and Below!

The Bowser technically isn't Lego but K'nex, couldn't pass it up seeing they only come 2 in a box.

Yeah, it seems to be a neat alternative to Lego. I've half considered buying a few for office display purposes. Where's the best place to find the things in the US?

I've seen many at TRU, but then you'll probably pay more because it's TRU than say Amazon. Strangely, I've also seen them at Barnes & Noble.

Well I out my first order through bricklink just now, let's see how that works out.
Moc'ing is going to be hella expensive though, especially till one has a certain stock of good pieces. Also considering that I don't plan on taking it apart afterwords ;)

Depending on what pieces you order and in what quantity, MOC'ing can get pricey, yeah. I feel like the bulk of your cost comes from having to pay shipping on multiple orders to get the pieces you want. When I rebuilt the Lego Dragon, I think I played some 6-7 different orders? One if the pieces (2x2 green corner brick), cost me like 3 orders and a lot of cash haha. That's the battle of bricklink!

yeah, I've done like 25 orders for the UCS millennium falcon. Probably spent $100 just for shipping.

If anyone is looking to pick up the Dino sets, TRU currently has the Dino Defense HQ for 30% off TRU pricing (25% off MSRP) with free shipping.

Considering that the 3 dinos alone will total about $45 to $50 (plus shipping) on Bricklink, you are effectively getting the rest of the 750+pc set for $25 to $30.

TRU also has a couple of Batman sets and the Y-wing at 30% off TRU pricing.

Tower Bridge is amazing!

No kidding. At over 4000 pieces, building it sounds like the ultimate challenge. Dammit, I haven't built any Legos in over a decade, but that Tower Bridge is so tempting.

Another thing, any thoughts on the Modular Building collection (Town Hall, Grand Emporium, Pet Shop, etc.)? Based on all the sets I saw at the store yesterday, this collection was the only one that actually interested me.

I would consider the modular buildings the "crown jewel" of my collection. If you are interested, you should look to get the Fire Brigade set ASAP, because it is on its way out-of-print and these sets start shooting up in price once that happens.

Came home to this last night. We didn't get to go to the Lego store, but my wife still went out and bought a bunch of stuff for me.

Funny that nanoblocks were first brought up here a few days ago, as there are three nanoblock sets in there, but first lets start with a comparison.

Yeah, nano is right. These are the kits I got:

I really like these little sets, and I'm definitely planning on buying more. They are very generous with extra bricks. Quality is pretty good, I feel.

I'm not feeling it. Although the Eiffel tower looks kinda cool at that scale.

Put some shelves up in my office today between watching basketball.

What's that set on the far right?

edit also is there a good way to order all (!) pieces you'll need for a digital designer thing, internationally? It'll be pretty costy to buy hundreds of bricks from different bricklink sellers I'd guess.

edit 2: whatever, ldd doesn't seem to run on my pc. Started it up, nothing happened. Oh well.

LEGO customer service is awesome.

Called to order the two missing pieces from my Death Star, no problems or hassle. Also inquired about missing points from my SSD purchase back in December, they saw an error and got the 400 points added to my account.

Zero hassles and everyone solved in about 5 minutes.

Death Star begins as a gnarly frisbee. I probably could toss it across the yard and it'd be fine. This thing is solid as shit.

I used to get sets when I was younger, but I learned I enjoyed the creation more. Then I would just got assorted boxes. And due to a recent move, I got my old pile with me to tinker with.

I wonder if I still got it in me.

Did the first floor of Town Hall last night. Just finished the second and third floors. Going to do the roof after dinner.

The set looks great next to Fire Brigade, but I have to say it is a big step down as far as how much fun it was to put together. After all the weird offset things that are done in Fire Brigade, most of Town Hall seems downright pedestrian. Just not as many weird building techniques in it to stand out, but yet it is still fun to put together. You can definitely tell it is a different designer than the other modulars.

I will post pics of everything once I am done, but so far it is a step backwards from my first modular.

The reviews over at Eurobricks made it sound promising - I think the biggest difference is in the size and piece count. Even the pictures made it look a bit less inspired than the others, but it really stood its ground as a "large and in charge" building.

Apparently the skylights on the roof of the Town Hall were designed by Jamie Berard (the regular modular designer).
