Apple sells 3 million new iPads in 3 days

woah, clovingsteam going in hard

let's at least put on an air of passive agressiveness instead of outright hostility

Must be fake, that screenshot isn't running in 2048x1536 resolution.

If you so choose, yes. This was my first iPad and will be my last until something significant changes (YMMV). And I've certainly never called the Vita expensive, I think it is well priced for its feature set.

I do think it is amazing at the folks who think you HAVE to upgrade. I upgrade every other year.

Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo could only hope in their wildest dreams to sell 3 million pieces of hardware in 3 days. Wow, Apple truly is killing them.

2 out of those 3 are currently successful too. It's going to be interesting to see how Apple kills other successful companies by making products for a different market.

I don't think even I could ignore such mystical power if they pulled that off.

If they just allow developers to use BT controllers, they would destroy the portable gaming market.

to be fair, they are completely different markets when it comes to price point.

if i can play all the latest and greatest PC games on a tablet on ULTRA then i welcome it and as long as i can use a keyboard and mouse still.

the average person would be able to live fine with touch screen controls for their general computing and gaming.

Wrong section, general purpose computing device (tablet form factor) sells 3 million is not comparable to console sales.

Do we have laptop sales threads or desktop pc sales threads?

Nope!

Bait thread written all over this.

If the mods don't see this fit for the right section, it will be moved to the appropriate forum.

That's right, but it has games that made me play much more time than 3DS or Vita, for example.
I love physical controls but, for a quick ten minutes play, iPad haves anything I need (and much, much cheaper).

Allow? They already do allow and its being used extensively. http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/retro-gaming/ecea/
which is the successor to http://www.thinkgeek.com/interests/exclusives/e762/ and upgrade to http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/retro-gaming/e75a/

For the record, if you have the money $200 every two years is fine. But really, this double standard with technology pricing sucks, not talking about you obviously.

Why so bitter? Where is the requirement to qualify as a game it must have buttons?

No bitterness. Just that playing games with buttons is infinitely better than without in 99.997% of games. It doesn't have to have buttons to qualify as a game, I'm just saying that those who like to play games with buttons are still playing them with buttons whether 10 iPads are sold, or 10 million iPads are sold. So MS/Sony/Nintendo aren't being 'killed' by the iPad in the gaming sense, because people who want to play games primarily are still gonna buy something from the big three.

Console wars never changes. This is like if World War II ended in alliance because aliens worse than the Nazis attacked earth. Console wars has changed.

I'm actually surprised it's sold that much. Looking at retail where I work, We haven't actually sold that many compared to the iPad 2. We still have stock as well with very few backorders listed.

We also only got 50 odd iPad 3s in for launch compared to the 200+ for the iPad 2 launch, which sold out just about instantly.

Maybe Aussies just haven't grabbed onto it as fast as other locations. I haven't seen any reports of places being sold out.

Congrats to Apple though!

I wondered who would post this first, Wario64 or Clovingsteam. I was not disappointed.

You mean if enough people complain about it :P. These threads only ever go in one direction sadly enough.

When Sega was releasing games on the Genesis bet you never would've thought they'd be releasing games on a future Nintendo console. Who would've though a decade ago that Apple would be the most valuable company around? Who would've thought that the Nintendo Wii would've changed the entire industry when it was announced? Fact is that the iPad/iPhone are game changers and sooner or later folks like yourself will have to get on the train or be left at the station.

Right, but many people keeps playing on Vita or 3DS because of the physical controls. And, moreover, an iPad is more expensive than any console but, with $40 (regular price for a new game in those consoles), you can buy a LOT of games for your iPad...

Tablets aren't a fad but ipad is. Once the market matures and price competition kicks in with Android and Windows tablets matching ipad feature-for-feature and low cost budget tablets flooding the market, ipad will be in the same place Mac is in the PC space market share wise.

Yup
Mods should move the thread, it's just a bait thread posted here, the same old shit every time.

I hear that the iPhone is a fad too.

When Apple ships a gaming console with a controller I'll jump twice. Until then, a touchscreen device that can play games hardly qualifies as a gaming device that the big three would be worried about.

And they'll altogether last about as long as that one $40 game too, heh. Yeah, there are exceptions with cheap games that have a lot of gameplay value. Just as there are console games that cost very little and are still meaty too. And iOS games that cost much more than the usual $1-5 meaning you'd only get about 2-4 for that $40 instead of "a LOT". Generalisations, ho!

This is just crazy talk.

It's the fastest-growing gaming machine, so I think this thread fits here.

I’m so annoyed by people saying this. I love Apple, I love games. I have a iPad, I occasionally play games on it, but gaming is not what it does best or what people are buying it for, so it’s not a gaming machine. It’s a tablet PC. I also feel that iPad is losing its relevance as a gaming platform for each new iteration. Every new feature is its „motion plus”, that won’t see huge support due to the number of previous generation iPads still in use.
