Switch 2 sells 3.5 million in 4 days

Without a doubt but the early signs are looking very good.
The shift in focus towards the enthusiast audience - centering messaging on performance, pixel counts and HDR, opting for a sleek black design over brighter colors, and the banking on a few 'impossible' ports - has definitely worked here. Since Wii days, Nintendo's 'blue ocean' focus on broad audiences has meant that day-one sales have never been that outstanding, because while broad audiences deliver long-term sales, they're rarely day one adopters.

Nintendo seem to have been more keenly aware of that, crafting something that enthusiast gamers will be less dismissive of, and the results do speak for themselves.

And people here still saying it is a failed launch.

That's the question. I suspect not but it's hard to say since Nintendo refuses to date their games except for Pokemon.

But the next weeks are gonna be rough since we are stuck just playing mario kart until DK releases (and that's if you are convinced by DK, at the time many of us are not).

I have plenty of Switch 1 games I happily play on 2 for months until MP4 releases but that's not how you build momentum for a new console. Nintendo urgently needs to start promoting DK in a meaningful way and start dating what the announced 2 months ago; in orther words they need a Direct but since they cold announced a new game ina major series through their shitty app I'm unsure if it can be expected or they'll just drop dates and trailers on their social media/app and call it a day. That would hardly build any excitement and after having literally no games announced for Switch 2 during summer announcement season they really really should just have a Direct to correct course. But they're being weird, with PR and hit's been hurting this launch ever since they announced the console. They have to get their shit together.
I agree that them missing all these third party announcements is a bad look, but I don't think they need a direct urgently. The Summer lineup is already pretty well defined so they could wait a bit to detail the line up for Autumn/Winter.
The PS4: 2 price cuts in all regions after launch, one in October 2015 and the other in September 2016.

The PS5: received 3 price increases in Japan, 2 in Europe and other regions like Australia. One in the US.

Yeah, I wonder why there are no surges in sales.

Yet, it stills tracking similar to the PS4.
Not that it really changes your overall point but isn't it two in Japan and none in the US?

Where are you?

We'll see if the mass market will accept Nintendo's gaming prices long term. Wii U was sold out at lauch as well.

If consumers continue buying the Switch 2 for month on end at the same rate - well, than it proves that nintendo fans are ok with paying ridiculous peripheral and software prices. In that case, Nintendo should consider rasing the prices of games to 100.

If that's really the case, it wouldn't speak for the intelligence of said fans.

Yeah, OK, so this is as good as an admission that you were being intentionally deceptive about "$90 games" in your previous post.

Otherwise you would have just answered his question.

People can just go in any store or look online and see the actual prices. This nonsense isn't going to fly the way it did a couple of months ago.

Looking at the different sales numbers, does this mean Xbox fans are highly intelligent while PlayStation and Nintendo fans are not?

If consumers continue to purchase the Switch 2 months on end at this rate, it'll be the best selling system ever after 7 months.

There is only one who knows if this is sustainable, and that is the spirit of gaming.

So Nintendo outsold what Microsoft was able to sell in an entire year in just 4 days if the rumor that the XBOX consoles only sold 3 million in 2024 worldwide

This is logic Jim......... But not as we know it.. ;)

I don't care, really. If people are fine paying 150 for an elite conroller, 100 for games, 100 for standard controllers, 60-70 for empty cartridges and so on - ok.

The gaming industry has been in a downward spiral for quite some time and has become what the movie industry is right now.

At the end of the day exclusive games move consoles.

It's always been that way and always will. If your machine doesn't have good exclusives, your machine isn't worth it.

I believe the Playstation 5 would have sold more at launch than it currently did if not for the pandemic
The pandemic also goosed demand. Not just hurt supply.

The other part of the comparison that doesn't make for apples to apples is the PS5 launched during xmas season.

The Switch 2 launched in June. JUne! No one has launched a console in June that I know of. Xmas time is when the gaming business gets roughly half its revenue. June is summer and a slow month for the videogame business.

The pandemic impacted PS5 sales later but not launch https://www.gamesindustry.biz/sony-doesnt-see-pandemic-affecting-ps5-launch

There was plenty of PS5 launch supply, even surpassing Switch 2 in UK https://www.thegamebusiness.com/p/switch-2-is-nintendos-biggest-uk
Ah let's see what the spokes person said.

"As reported by Bloomberg, a Sony spokesperson said the company doesn't expect the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) to have any notable impact on the PlayStation 5 launch later this year.

Beyond that, Sony also released a statement today saying it believes COVID-19 will have no material impact on its gaming business for current fiscal year, which ends this coming Tuesday, March 3 1."

That turned out to be false..... As this was said in March of 2020. The month where everything was just beginning to close down before full lock downs and closures.

Or you can read where sony says the supply issues were fixed in 2023

So, it's a good launch but had any console before Switch 2 met demand on launch this could have been a mediocre one? Is that the best argument to minimize the most successful launch ever?

People are willing to pay for things that they enjoy and find value in. That doesn't mean they aren't intelligent.

N64 launched in June 23 in Japan
GBA launched in June 11 in NA

Of course it affected launch. Do you think they weren't competing for production between March, Launch Days and the months following? Manufacutring capacity was already tight before the lock downs.
It was a difficult and anxious situation for billions of us around the world the covid19. Yes it was reallly a difficult situation for PS especially production and manpower due to lockdowns and health crisis.

Maybe they just like the games Nintendo makes and are able to afford them.

People aren't dumb for buying a toy you don't like.

The Switch 2 will clearly be a huge success. Why do you hate them so much? Surely it isn't just a small price hike that everyone else in the industry was wanting to do but was too scared?

I mean, this proves Nintendo is very brave, like Link. Nintendo basically is Link from the game and they proved it by raising prices on games when everyone else was afraid to do what needed to be done. They are a hero, in a way. The hero we needed.

In a way, they are brave because they stood up to you. They knew that people like you would HATE them over this but also it needed to be done, so they got the job done. I'm actually impressed with them. The entire industry is standing behind Nintendo. They are selling like hotcakes. Outer Words 2 is $79.99 for the standard edition and $99.99 for the Premium Edition(microsoft is behind them). Welcome to our new reality. You could join gamepass and save some money but you don't get to play Nintendo games on gamepass...

Impressive. I was not able to find one at any stores, but my friends picked them up easily online or even walking into a store. That is how you release a console. Take note Sony. It took like 4 years before I was finally seeing PS5 on shelves and by then I was no longer interested.

To be honest, the Switch 2 doesn't feel as nice in my hands as my Steam Deck. It should really come with a standard controller as well. And the only game at the moment is Mario Kart, which I got to play, and it didn't feel much different than Mario Kart 8. So I am in no rush to buy one.

Nintendo has some hardcore fans, but honestly Nintendo hardcore haters out number us 5 to 1, legit I have never seen that many salty cry babies over console sales since PS3 days

While impressive, the most important thing was that there was no shortage of consoles, Nintendo was able to serve Preorders and still many people managed to just get to the shop and buy one.

That was a greatly planned launch.

Switch 2 exposed so many YouTubers this year that I happily unsubbed from. I have no interest in being manipulated by grifters for their personal financial gain.
Yeah, same situation with the HDR german guy

At 5:20 he says like « no need to compare DogTown performance to Series X, it is stable on the Series X »

So I had a look to the DF video on the topic, same town

At 5:30 too it says « performance issues during the traversal of the city », droping to low 50s/high 40s with screen tearing.

And in quality mode, it drops to the low 20s. So yeah, clickbait guy that bends reality to fit its narrative

Yeah.. I really think launch day was your best chance to get one for Xmas. Come November/December stocks will be decimated and people likely need to put in some work and use the apps to even find one before then.

11 days to release the kraken @SweetTooth

I wouldn't be surprised if he never comes back. Guy was taking premature victory laps when Sony was talking about buying Kadokawa for months. "PC bros will have to log into PsN and wait a year for FromSoft games" "Switch 2 will flop" etc.

Then the Kadokawa deal turned out to be a nothingburger, and the next A Team Miyazaki directed From game is a Switch 2 exclusive.
