Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

Why are people taking the "unique ideas" as a way of saying "We won't make games for Wii U". WTF.........

They don't say that....at all.

Oh to be young again.

if your expecting them to be the lead of anything outside of their normal scope of business then your looking to deep into what you think their online should be like. for that matter, i don't get why people like u find it necessary to nitpick a company that's been making games since the majority of us were either in diapers, pre-school, or kindergarten. do you make games? do u own a billion dollar company? then yes, your opinion doesn't matter.

lol

Because it's the exact same shit people said before the Wii launched.

Saying that they wouldn't make a Wii U game without 'unique ideas' is tantamount to saying that they won't make a Wii U game. Unless he's moneyhatted to high heaven by Nintendo, Kojima is not going to make a Wii U exclusive game.

There's no requirement for a Wii U game to take advantage of the tablet in an interesting way. At the end of the day, it's better for the console to see a bunch of Kojima ports where the touch screen is used for a giant additional A button than to see no Kojima games at all.

Depressingly true. Hopefully, this doesn't become an increasingly common refrain in the coming months.

Wii was different. Developers felt they needed to use motion control for their games. There is nothing forcing them to use the tablet in extreme means.

I think people jumping to that conclusion based on such a vague statement is a little nuts.

Yes, yes,yes, Din-damn, yes.

I'm sure it could. Zelda-themed gold trim (maybe with different-colored rupees?) on a black or charcoal-colored console could be sooooo good. Especially if the disc drive lights-up to be gold-colored.

I don't know. I'd be kind of perturbed if I spent $300+ and then that was announced a few months after. XD

That's exactly what Crystal Dynamics said, so I'm expecting a lot of these excuses from other developers

I've seen folks say pretty blithely, "it's Nintendo's fault" if they don't get support.

At what point is it not Nintendo's fault?

NES- perfect
SNES- perfect
N64- CARTRIDGES HOW COULD THEY BE SO STUPID
GC- MINI DISCS UGH
Wii- SHIT GRAPHIX SHIT CONTROLLER
Wii U- .... shit graphix shit controller?

The closest they got to regaining the SNES glory was with Gamecube. If they just went with regular sized DVDs, they would have had all the support in the world.

It's too bad. From what I understand, the mini discs cut loading times dramatically. PS2 loading times were pretty dreadful.

Whenever a high profile developer says something like this, Nintendo should get in contact with the publisher and push them hard for a Wii U version. Give them free developer tools, anything, just get them on board.

There's nothing forcing them to use the tablet, and yet developers are responding as if there is. As you say, Wii U is in a very different position to Wii, so why are the responses the same? Developers should be saying, "a Wii U version? Sure, why not?", not, "hmm, I don't know if we can, this tablet is a problem..."

Look at the history of what these guys have released for Nintendo platforms and what their past comments are.

If we expect it to not pan out, it's because we've heard it all before and the excuse is thinner than it's ever been. The controller has essentially the same buttons, the system is more powerful than anything else, and you know what? Chucking the HUD and map screen on the controller is a pretty huge improvement in spite of the complaints I've seen around here about it when the 3DS launched.

Hell I'm playing Kingdoms of Amalur right now, and with the amount of time I spend staring at that stupid mini map looking for treasure and enemies... sure would be nice if it wasn't so tiny.

Yeah.. I think we need to come up with a "Developers' Bullshit Excuse Bingo" game before this generation formally goes.

"Reggie farted in the elevator that one time" could be the center free square.

Kojimas project for instance wont be out until like a year after the Wii U is released. Seeing as the Wii U is supposed to be extremely simple to port over to to the tune of just days to do it they could easily get it up and running on the Wii U and be set. It has all the standard buttons. Instead they are using the touch screen as an excuse.

In the case of Kojima's project, I half-expect that it will ultimately end up making it to Wii U, especially if the launch goes very well in Japan. It's still very worrying to see a number of developers making these kind of statements already, though.

You'll take back those words when it launches with Pikmin 3, Miyamoto's new IP, F-Zero UX, Newer Super Mario Bros, Retro's new IP, Shenmue 3, Beyond Good & Evil 2, Darker Souls, Starcraft Ghost, Metroid Dread and Half-Life 3 (console exclusive with Steam download code).

Calm down guys. This was to be expected. Nintendo has a lot to prove this gen. You can be assured though that the only way devs will throw their full weight behind Wii U is if they see they can make a good buck off of it.

And can you blame them? The console is definitely a slightly risky venture at the moment.

But that said, it's also already apparent that Wii U is going to get more 3rd party support than its predecessor. If games like ACIII, NGIII, Killer Freaks, etc. can be profitable, other devs will follow. You have to give it some time.

Wonder when/if Mortal Kombat will make an appearance. Ed Boon loves Nintendo and even if it's a port, he likes having at least one MK game on Nintendo platforms; kinda wonder if a possible Wii U version might include the Vita-extra stuff; or new ones.

The "ninja star" thing could make for a nice mini-game with you throwing stars to an HD Johnny Cage on the big screen. :p

Thats the thing. The Wii U is not like the Wii at all and is not even close to a risky venture. Its retard easy to port to and they dont even have to use the touch screen. A handful of people can port the code and boom another version.

There should be a Nintnedo Cycle: Devoloper Edition

1. New Nintendo hardware announced.

2.
Dev: We'll make games for it if we can do something creative.
Dev: We'll make games for it if we see that they'll sell.

3. Devs make half-hearted attempt at a game or bad port with uncreative use of hardware.

4. Game doesn't sell.

5. "See? Wasn't worth it."

I wish. I really, really do. More than perhaps any othef third party series.

But I wonder where Ancel's mind is right now. He had something positive to say recently, but that kind of thing automatically gets filed into the "devs-blowing-smoke" file until proven otherwise.

Na there would have been other excuses such as "too kiddy" or "non standard controller". In addition on MS and Sony platforms, third parties don't have to compete with Nintendo games, they can just rip them off and make the equivalent game for the other consoles.

Or a mini-game where you hold the controller like you're pointing it vertically at the screen and you make a chopping motion to break as many boards as possible.[/upadsflyingintotvs]

I've advocated for this for a long time. By doing a WiiU port, they could then in turn rejuvenate the game and start a new DLC cycle for it.

Plus... possibly 1080p.

All I know is Nintendo better have the software at E3 to make people excited about Wii U.

The Mario Galaxy team started Mario 3D Land after Galaxy 2, so it doesn't seem they will have any 3D Mario game ready for E3.
The Zelda team doesn't seem like they'll have a Zelda game ready for E3.
Sora just started on Smash Bros so that won't be ready for E3 (at least not gameplay footage).
I don't see a Kid Icarus Wii U because they just finished the 3DS game, and I don't know who would make one while Sora is working on Smash Bros.
The Mario Kart team just finished MK for 3DS so I don't know if they had enough time to make any Mario Kart ready to show at E3 for Wii U.
We just had a kirby game on wii so they don't have a whole lot of time to make a new kirby.

The only current franchises I see at E3 from Nintendo are: 2D Mario, Metroid, Pikmin, Star Fox, FZero, Excite series, Donkey Kong, and some Wii Sports. Am I wrong for thinking this? The only way I can see them getting around this is if they hand off their franchises to other studios like they did with Luigi's Mansion 2 and Punchout.

Actually most of EAD Tokyo has been working on something else since SMG2, only a small portion of them did 3D Land.

Actually, the Mario Kart Team is already working on the next installment iirc since November.
So I think a tease or trailer at E3 is possible.
I'll try to find that article.
Hideki Konno couldn't say anything specific about it but he said he wants to use the Wii U's capabilities to make it the funnest Mario Kart ever.

Edit: I couldn't find the article I wanted but here's something related to it

yeah i think Nintendo has to dedicate all of their development to FPS and mature games where blood splatters on the screen in order to get the developers backing and win over the fans again. cuz what better way to put yourself as an equal with developers nowadays but to make FPS? i mean, they ARE the genre that made gaming...

For rizzle.
But seriously, the fact Nintendo doesn't expand into more genres should be a good thing for skeptic devs. Third Parties should capitalize on the fact that nintendo doesn't make FPSs, only a handful of JRPG's, and no WRPGs.

Ok, the games I think will be shown at E3:

- Pikmin 3 is a given
- I think we'll see some type of tease/trailer for the next 3D mario game (already drooling)
- We should hopefully see something of what Retro has been working on (Starfox or Metroid)
- They'll probably show a new Zelda for 3DS, nothing for Wii U though
- NSMB 3DS blowout
- Donkey Kong Country 3DS revealed
- More info/release date on Luigi's Mansion 2, Animal Crossing and Paper Mario 3DS (Finally!)
- Third party WiiU games. Already announced ones + Bioshock Infinite, RE6 and GTA V
- Maaaaaaybe just a tiny little teaser for Smash Bros. Like a 30 second CGI trailer. Maybe.
- Two 'unlikely' games. Like F-Zero, Waverace, Eternal Darkness or a cool new IP.

What I wouldn't give for a new 3D Donkey Kong game on WiiU...

In the vein of DK64? I'd take a waggle-free DKCR2 with shameless nostalgia exploitation and the ability to choose from several different characters (Donkey, Diddy, and Dixie at the least) over that.

If Nintendo really wanted to approach the "matoor" experience found on other consoles, they'd put gigantic boobies on the TV screen - complemented by real-time JigglePhysics- and then they'd splattered with copious amounts of chunky blood and brain bits. The sound of gunfire and bomb explosions would be going-off like crazy in the background.

Meanwhile, to give it that authentic "live" feeling, they're also going to have voiceovers done by real 12-year-olds, freshly home from middle-school. They'd pretty much yell racial and sexual epithets over and over again at you - the player - in their squeaky little voices.

Also an option would be live in-game chat! But beware of flashers!

With all of this, I really do think that Nintendo could closely copy the ulllllltra-sophisticated, mature experiences found elsewhere. You'd feel like you really were on one of those mature, hardcore gaming machines!
