Disc Drivin'

Also, Wordfeud is better than Words with Friends for many reasons, chief among them it's nothing to do with Zynga. It also has a better dictionary, and no IAPs that are only there to let your opponent cheat. Words with Friends is total shit these days.

There REALLY needs to be a resurrection of Disc Drivin' - I just hope the new tracks come out soon. Let's get a game going, yeah?

What I played of it was mediocre. Better than Undercroft (although it seemed slow on my 3GS, dunno if it's better on a more recent phone), but keep in mind that I thought the first hour or so of Undercroft was fun until it turned hyper-repetitive.

I strongly suggest you gravitate towards ports of old console RPGs, as they are the least impacted by reduced budgets and designed for minimal buttons. Alternatively, give Pirates! a shot (although not if you have the OG iPad, it ran kinda poorly on that); the PC version was designed to be played almost entirely with the NUMpad and the iOS version improves on some things (some things are worse but it's pretty even overall).

If you think it's better than Undercroft that's already good enough for me, I'm having a blast with it. I see there's a demo version of it so when I finish UC I'll try The Quest Lite.

I don't own an iPad (yet?) so I can't play Pirates! but I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks.

So I'm messing around with screen protectors - not to actually protect the screen, but because I find the bare glass on the iPad to be too grippy to comfortably perform swiping gestures lots of games demand (especially Cave shooters). On my iPad 2 I resigned myself to using a matte finish protector - specifically, the one from Monoprice - despite how fuzzy it made the display look. Mounting the same protector to the new iPad, I'm finding the visual downgrade is simply unacceptable - not only is the screen all-around fuzzy, but solid whites are actually being turned into a rainbow by the cover, pretty much ruining the point of having upgraded in the first place.

I'm actually thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these, but of course they are mad expensive and I'm not sure if they're any less grippy than the screen. Monoprice's "high transparency" protector is right out - I attempted to install one but found the screen grip problem to be much, much worse than with the bare glass. Any other suggestions?

Fireball SE is soooo good. I'm not even into high score chasing games, but this one is really addictive. Gameplay is super satisfying and the controls are perfect.

What's the best Trials style game? Bike baron is good, and I liked mototrialz but I think it's iPhone only (not even retina). Downloaded xtremewheels today which says its iPad retina and it's very pretty - probably the closest in looks to trials HD, but not that many levels and they aren't that difficult

^ MotoHeroz by the (real) Trials devs is amazing (on WiiWare, no double dip until it hits $1) if somewhat different in its approach.

Do people recommend the Career Mode in New Star Soccer?

I've been playing the Arcade Mode a bit and found it fairly enjoyable.
Not that I'm all that good at it... my high score is currently only 19, what are other people getting?

EDIT - Ending up buying it, it's dang addictive!!

Played a couple of hours of Battleloot HD on my ipad and have been really enjoying it. The art and weird animations are worth the price of entry alone but it is a bit grindy.

Battle system is well thought out and fun so far plenty of rock paper scissor elements mixed in with skills and gear.

Thank you for mentioning this! It's basically a good controlling version of geometry wars pacifism mode! I love it

I need some recommendations for single player iPad games (no MMO or asynchronous).

I love rpgs, adventure, puzzle and action.

I'm going to pick up Avadon, Bard's Tale for sure and I already got Elder Sign: Omens (I love the board game). That video of Osmos sold me on that game, so I'm going to pick that one up too.

Anything matte sounds like would fix your grippy problem, though from my preference, anything but a naked screen looks like shit.

Oh damn, totally forgot to respond to this. I was gonna say:

DUUUUUUUUUUUDE. That game IS the career mode. Get it. Now. NOW. DO IT. I'll see you in a few days.

Holy shit, just tried it after seeing this post. Never heard of it. I'm loving Arcade mode. What's Career about?

Am super sad that my parents pretty much use their $500 ipads just for solitaire.

Any 'easy games on the controls and eyes' for the old folks? I think I'm gonna get them peggle.

It's basically a Kairosoft game, only you're one of the people. I've heard nothing but greatness about it, despite not unlocking the Career yet. I've been satisfied with Arcade for the time being. I can't get over the 19 hump though. It's pretty tough.

Sold.

Why not? As someone who owns an iPad and only an iPad, staggered releases only say to me, "oh hey, we're actually releasing this game for your platform now even though you already bought it for the platform you don't actually own and have to put up with that stupid 1x/2x button getting in the way all the time, now pay us a second time for what we should have given you the first time!"

Yeah, as I posted I have Monoprice's matte finish protector on there, but it messes with the picture too much for me to leave it on there. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and try one of those Martin Fields protectors - at least the ones they make for smartphones are smooth despite being a glossy finish, and hoping that carries over to the tablet protectors as well.

itunes question.

I've realized that syncing apps onto my tiny SSD was a bad idea. Is there anyway for me to stop syncing apps without it clearing all apps off my phone?

itunes wording is confusing as hell.

Same with mine, occasionally. At least upgrade them to Fairway Solitaire. I got my mom playing Draw Something and Peggle, gonna try to work in Plants Vs Zombies next time.

I'm actually surprised they included legit team names in NS Soccer. Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart both make an appearance.
He's playing over in Germany now... my man, Nick Rivers.

Btw, what's everyone's longest pass and goal?
And I'm still having trouble getting assists. Any tips?

Try to get Vision up (more teamplayers visible --> more team players in scoring positions possible) and your Team-Happiness rating (more chances per game --> more situations where assists are possible)

otherwise... your teammates mostly suck, regardless of the team. :P just hope for the best when you pass them, sometimes they're good, sometimes they're awful. I usually only pass to them if I'm either A) way on the side/far away from goal and can't realistically score or B) if they're in my way of shooting anyway.

Also, if you don't think you can score, it's always better to just pass anyway, because if you miss you don't get anything positive, and if you pass then you at least get a "Pass" from it, if not even an assist as well.

My furthest goal: 52.9
Furthest pass: 37.7

Big Fish Games made a series of apps called Big City Adventure (I think that's what it's called) that works like I Spy, where you search for hidden objects. This one has minigames inbetween too like Memory (match pairs). My Mom enjoyed it a lot.

Word, Puzzle, or Board games are what types of games my parents play. My dad got super hooked on Angry Birds, so I figure a lot of the older, popular apps are simple enough for 'rents, like Fruit Ninja, Flight Control, Cut the Rope, etc.

I'm looking for something like Diablo or Torchlight that isn't Dungeon Hunters. Any suggestions?

iTunes GCs are 20% off again at Best Buy. Damn so far they've run this same sale every month. No point in buying straight off the app store with the the frequency at which Best Buy is running these sales.

Also, are there any good two player on one iPad games? With this screen space you could do a lot. Wasn't there a game for couples too? Can't remember the name...

How's Broken Sword on iPad? I am thinking point and clicks should be decent on this thing...

It's great, and you are correct in thinking that point-and-click adventures are great on an iPad. There's a lot of good ones on the Appstore.

The game for couples is Fingle.

Well the iPhone one is $1 at least...and on The new iPad it looks alright cause it's running at the iPhone retina resolution, plus you can move the controls around to make it more comfortable to play on the iPad.

Anyway yeah it's pretty good, even though I'm not big on the whole upgrade grind with it. It's not horribly done, but still annoying...I still haven't three starred a course and I'm not sure I will until I keep upgrading a lot more. It's similar to Trials in that the main thing is just to finish as fast as possible along with a nice physics engine. Difference is that the levels aren't as linear and since there's no rider to worry about, the main thing is keeping momentum and flow, kind of like the bigger/faster Trials levels.

And speaking of iPhone apps showing retina resolution on the new iPad, since they look decent enough now it gives me less of a reason to pay for separate iPad versions when there's nothing added besides filling the screen.

I find glossy protectors are about as smooth as the glass, just kind of depends on what's on the surface or your fingers I guess.

Greedy Bankers vs The World is pretty good, although I haven't tried the two player mode yet. I imagine it'd be pretty crazy vs another person considering how hectic the single player can be.

Any pictionary type games for local multiplayer? Either pass and play or perhaps with AirPlay support so I can draw on the iPad and it shows up on the tv? Both charadium and draw something seem to be online only
