so i tried playing power of coin...it's...fun, but I have no idea what the point of the game is. is it to jsut try to "score" as high as possible before your coins run out?

really enjoying undercroft btw.

I don't know, but I have no problem with my soccer team (still West Ham) sucking some games. I'm star level 14 and can't carry the team all by myself every single game - sometimes I score a hattrick and we lose, but sometimes I get neither an assist or a goal and we win anyway. It makes it more realistic if you can't just steamroll through every team, when you're really just ONE player.

So I'm messing around with screen protectors - not to actually protect the screen, but because I find the bare glass on the iPad to be too grippy to comfortably perform swiping gestures lots of games demand (especially Cave shooters). On my iPad 2 I resigned myself to using a matte finish protector - specifically, the one from Monoprice - despite how fuzzy it made the display look. Mounting the same protector to the new iPad, I'm finding the visual downgrade is simply unacceptable - not only is the screen all-around fuzzy, but solid whites are actually being turned into a rainbow by the cover, pretty much ruining the point of having upgraded in the first place.

I'm actually thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these, but of course they are mad expensive and I'm not sure if they're any less grippy than the screen. Monoprice's "high transparency" protector is right out - I attempted to install one but found the screen grip problem to be much, much worse than with the bare glass. Any other suggestions?

Instead of trying to fix the screen try to fix your finger. A piece of tissue attached with a rubberband has worked well for me in the past, for stuff like Fruit Ninja. Looks super ghetto, but I don't really care (and only do it in my house)

I'm looking for something like Diablo or Torchlight that isn't Dungeon Hunters. Any suggestions?

As promised, here's a short list of the diablo style games that i've come across:

1. Companions
2. Dungeon Hunter & Dungeon Hunter 2
3. Emissary of War
4. Legendary Heroes (Crappy DoTa style game)
5. Lara Croft and the Guardians of Light (it's a stretch, but i'm including it)
6. The Bard's Tale
7. Pocket RPG
8. Pocket Legends (it's an MMO, and not very good)

Upcoming:

1. Dungeon Legend (Think Baldur's Gate meets Bastion)
2. Hero's Call (formerly Quick Quest)

I know that i'm missing a few. SOLOMON's KEEP was pretty popular on the iPhone for a while.

Hope this helps.

you don't have too many choices outside of the Gameloft titles. if you wait a while, infinity blade dungeons looks like it's going to be up our alley. in the short term, there is companions HD, which kind of scratches that Itch. there's always the very simplistic pocket RPG, which looks good, but is barely a dungeon crawler. your best bet really is companions HD....

there may be about three or four other ones either coming down the pipe or hidden deep within the iTunes store. I will see if I can find them and post them all here. None of them are particularly great, but it's still good to know. Oh and like someone recommended earlier, a Bard's Tale. That's pretty good.

sorry for the juvenile looking post. I haven't figured out how to capitalize using the dictation tool.

Thank you! I'm definitely looking forward to Infinity Blade: Dungeons. I wish it would come out soon!

You're awesome, thank you very much for the suggestions!

The solution to this problem is calluses.

Weird, replaced my iPad and now Carcasonne thinks I didn't buy the $.99 river expansion or the $1.99 Inns and Cathedrals expansion and is trying to get me to buy them again before I can start a new match with an opponent using the expansions.

Anybody else ever have in-game purchases disappear on you?

There should be a button / method to 'Redeem Purchases' and re-download In-App Purchases.

I assume you are using the same iTunes account.

Carcassonne has a 'refresh' arrow button in the top right. Press that and login and it should work.

Has there been any new word on those old rumors of Grim Fandango and/or Baldur's Gate 1+2 for iOS?

Haven't heard the Grim Fandango rumors myself, but Beamdog's platform announcement for Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition is supposed to be this Thursday (they mentioned they won't be supporting controllers, so that probably eliminates the 360/PS3).

And if you ever encounter a game that lacks a "reauthorize purchases" function, you can just go ahead and "purchase" it again - the App Store will recognize that you already own the content and just download it without charging you. It sure was fun reauthorizing 35+ songpacks on jubeat plus...

I did when I got my ipad 2. Trying to buy it again should actually restore it for you. I never got charged again for expansions.

Wow. It's really easy to implement 'restore purchases' through their storekit api. No excuse.

Man what did gameloft do to dungeon hunter 3, I loved the first game but this, this is just a money grinding pit without a story at all, all about timers and spending gems that want you to buy :(

It's a real shame because the base and gameplay is rather good, uugghh

Yup, it's a total shitfest.

Beat Sneak Bandit, Kingdom Rush, Plants Vs Zombies, Jetpack Joyride, Where's My Water, Incoboto, Carcassonne, Sword and Sworcery, Broken Sword, Bean's Quest, Draw Something, World of Goo, Pulse, Groove Coaster.

I don't like 100% of these games, but they're among the most acclaimed on the platform across the board, and so it's a GREAT starting point for getting a feel of what you think works and what doesn't.

Any suggestions for a finer point capacative stylus?

I was a little surprised at how much the price can vary on these things. I probably wont have a need to bring it around with me, so fancy cases or clips aren't necessary. I just need something for Charadium.

Argh, I just synced my new iPad to iTunes and half my apps inexplicably disappeared. Telling iTunes to put the apps back did nothing to restore the data for those apps. More than a little pissed right now.

This is one of the reasons I've stopped syncing with iTunes. So frustrating...

Anyway, a suggestion to you - a lot of times before the sync iTunes will backup your phone data. You may want to see if that happened and do a restore to right before you did the sync?

According to the timestamps on iTunes it overwrote the backup with all my data after syncing, and restoring via iTunes seems to have restored it to the post-sync state, with half my stuff gone. Trying to figure out how to restore it directly from iCloud without involving iTunes now.

EDIT: Did a factory reset and restored from iCloud data, that turns out to be post-sync so all my stuff is still gone. Now having to go back to the backup from my iPad 2, which means anything I did in the last week is gone for good. Holy shit Apple.

Has anyone played these games and could tell me how their like: Bike Baron, Bitter Sam, ESPGALUDA II HD, My Horse, Velocispider, and Edge Extended.

I've only played ESPGALUDA II HD out of that list. Definitely like, though I'm a bit biased as I liked it enough that I briefly owned the arcade hardware for the game.

This is why I don't sync with iTunes. I'm iCloud only now and have restored an iPhone and an iPad flawlessly.

What, they sell hardware specifically for this game?

It was an arcade game first, released in 2005. I bought it in 2008 (cost more than my iPad) thinking by then it was unlikely to ever get ported to anything. It was ported to Xbox 360 in early 2010 and hit iOS very soon after.

Yeah it's crazy. They make them for these places called "arcades" or something. There's an urban legend that says there's even some in America! (...well not that many anymore)

Anyway I don't have Espgaluda II, but here's my Ketsui* board for an example (the "hardware"):

You can play them on a TV with some adapter hardware (called superguns), but I use a cab:

*If they ever get around to porting Ketsui to iOS, 1) there better be a manual shot option, 2) everyone should buy it cause it's the best.

Finally playing GP Story and.. i dunno, I expected it to be different.
There's a lot of "free" time, Game Dev was a lot more hectic. But maybe it just starts very slow, i just got dine with the first GP series.
Two questions: when you race, what's the grey button with your stats/speed/driver for? I thought it was some kind of push/slow down/pass button a la GT5 B-Spec. You can push it but I don't see any change, maybe later into the game?
Second: what's the skill for you car/driver you should look out for when you crash into the barriers a tad much?

I'm experimenting with a new video format for giving interested people a "quick look" at an iOS game. Please take a look and give me feedback:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvoYDfLTeQw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0p_FSxUQwU

Changes I'm already planning:

- Way less "ums" & "aahs." I had no idea I was saying them at the time. Didn't realize until I saw the final video.

- Shorter. 1.5 - 2 minutes, instead of 3.

I'm open to any other feedback. The audio is unscripted, and I'm playing live (capturing direct feed) as I'm speaking. The basic idea is to keep it casual, and to more-or-less pretend like I'm answering the question "So what's the story with (game)?" Hopefully these can be good resources to inform people on whether a game is for them or not in 2 minutes or less.

Damn it. Just bought Bard's TalE to find out it doesn't work on the new iPad :(
