In movies, what is the term used to describe music which is playing within the movie? For example, during the opening credits AC/DC's "Back in Black" is playing as the camera pans over landscapes, characters, etc. However, the next scene shows how the music is originating from a boom box a character is listening to.

What is this called?

Diegetic is probably the closest word. In your example it is something we (the audience) think is non-diegetic becoming diegetic. I don't know if there is a more specific or even slang word for it in the industry.

EDIT: Beaten by seconds xD

I refer to music which is part of the environment, rather than a device of the production, as ambient. The musical genre referred to as ambient probably makes this confusing though.

I drink Boddingtons.

It's a pale ale (or 'Bitter' as it's called over here). I like it.

Ahh yes I love that stuff. I used to drink it a lot back in college when it first became available in the US. It was the first beer I ever had with those little widget things in the can.

What are some of the better British beers (doesn't matter what kind)

What beer(s) do most British people drink .. regardless of where it comes from.

In terms of mainstream.... stuff like John Smiths, Boddington's and then Old Speckled Hen/Bombardier seem to go under the radar to younger drinkers although that appears to be changing with the latest figures showing more people getting into ale/beer/craft etc.

Most people in England still drink crap lager as far as I'd say, with the focus, especially on the younger crowd, on how much beer and not what beer.

If you're looking for some nice beers, I'll gladly shoot you a PM with a few tips but no advice is better than to seek out one of your local CAMRA pubs and asking the staff there. I went in with nothing but a vague idea of types of beer I liked and 2 years later I've started recognising brewers and being able to actually describe what the beer tastes like.

My opening questions were stuff like: "I quite like dark, chocolatey tasting beer, do you have anything that might fit that description?" "It's a nice sunny day today, what would you suggest that's not too heavy and not too hard on the tastebuds?"

Honestly, I can barely drink shite beer anymore. It just tastes of bubbles, metal and disappointment.

Also, if there's a Samuel Smith's pub near you, you're guaranteed a decent pint for a low price so check it out.

EDIT: because of the Karl Pilkington avatar, I presumed you were British so please excuse me, a lot of my advice might not be possible to follow. Your best bet is still to try and find a pub/bar/whatever that serves something other than bubble infested, shit juice and start asking about the good side of the liquid bread diet.

Brew shops will also likely be able to give you a decent heads up :)

Thanks Barnaby. Great av btw. I had a Hunter av before Karl. :b

And I'm not British. I'm just curious about what people drink over there. I used to drink Milwaukee's Best Light but now that I'm getting older and have more money I drink Blue Moon, JW Dundees Honey Brown Lager, Black and Tan, Newcastle. If I had a lot of money to blow though I'd get Corsendonk Abbey or Delerium Tremons. I know its not British but I figured I'd let you know what my tastes are.

Blue moon is an American beer that I've started drinking as it's popped up in a few shops. Also been making my own Black and Tans.

I'll have to keep my eyes open and see if there's anywhere I can get other American beer from as I've started to really appreciate the American craft scene lately as it seems to be one of the only scenes to be really experimenting with their brews.

Innis & Gun Rum Cask/Finish is also a really nice beer, especially when you find out that they originally poured the stuff out!

Do you guys know if it's possible to buy kind of "display boxes" or frames that I can put on the wall, and then have my Blu-ray boxes in, so that the front cover faces out toward the room?

Kind of like a picture frame, but for Blu-ray movie covers.

I'm planning on building a little computer to put next to the TV to rip all my DVDs etc to and run XBMC (I'm presuming, based on what I've been able to find out) on.That's an HTPC right? I'm trying to find guides for what sort of stuff to build it with as I've never done it before and drawing a blank. I have about 200+ DVDs that I never watch because they're sitting in wallets and would like to consolidate all that into one machine, possibly blu-rays too if that's an option. Apologies if there's a thread for this sort of question, but the only one I could find via search was mostly about the actual "theatre" set up rather than building the HTPC itself.

So my shitty laptop has gotten so shitty lately that it overheats whenever I A) Try to play video full screen, B) Try to play any type of high res video whatsoever, or B) play ANY PC game, even those that are 2D and/or ~20 years old. It also sounds like a jet engine taking off when it's idling most times.

What is fucked up about it, what can I do to fix it or keep it cool on the cheap?

You need to clean the fans. They're full of dust.

Edit: I'd recommend doing it with canned air. Be extremely careful and meticulous when you disassemble the laptop (I know it can be a bitch). Touch a radiator before touching stuff on the mainboard.

Can you have paypal do it automatically? Also, when it transfers to your card is there a fee?

I don't think there's a way to have PayPal do that automatically, but if you find one, let me know. :P There's no fee to transfer to your bank account, but there's a minimum amount you have to transfer ($10 or something) and it can take a week or so to clear.

I've never opened up a laptop before. I'm scared, but I will do my best!

I don't have any way to do that and now I'm doubly scared. :(

Most of my data sucks anyways. I'd be happy to be rid of it.

Okay, if this is the first time you've disassembled a piece of technology, then heed this advice:

Put sticking tape onto the disassembling table, with the sticky side up. That's where you put the screws. You won't lose them that way. Also, it's an easy way to track the order of screws.

Make sure you've touched something that's grounded before attempting to open the thing. Static electricity can instagib your motherboard.

Make sure the thing is unplugged. If applicable, remove the battery of the laptop.

Don't ever use excessive force. This shit breaks easily.

Also, if you don't feel up to it, don't do it. Ask a techie instead.

Good luck!

Is there a way to have PayPal put money on to your debit/credit card?

You realize debit and credit cards are two different kinds of cards, right?

Debit cards are linked directly to your bank account. Thus, if Paypal transfers the money into your bank account, it's available on your debit card.

Well, I have a debit card that can be used as a credit card. The thing is I have gotten money onto my card via PayPal but haven't seen it put onto my card.

Great post!

Although you are making me reconsider the wisdom of going on the wagon!

Get thee behind me devil! :x

Handy tip, thanks :).

This thread:

is closest to what you are looking for from what I am familiar with here.

Unless someone suggests a better alternative I would suggest asking in there.

Any ways to straighten hair without one of those iron things? Like a certain way of combing it or drying? My hair isn't curly it's just wavyish but it's still somewhat annoying when trying to manage.

Can anyone tell me the kinds of things I should look for when changing banks? My first account was at the Bank of america near my house, just because of how close it was to home (and they had baseball team logos on debit cards). with all the nonsense surrounding them lately I wanna switch but am not sure wat do. Help me gaf! You are my source of infinite knowledge!

I just got an Apple TV and want to add all my video files into iTunes. An app called iFlicks converts them into the right format, adds all the metatags and adds them to iTunes. Is there any reason not to convert my entire video library? Should I use a different program?

I'd ask my fiance now if she weren't out, so maybe I'll remember to pop in tomorrow with a better answer... but yeah, I believe there are products you can use to help with this so that you don't have to use a flat iron.

here's a Google search that might provide some info for people with your hair type. Looks like there are quite a few results about using products.

Yeah. It's totally unnecessary. Do you really want to add all your video files to iTunes or is it just because it's a requirement for the Apple TV?

If it's just because it's a requirement for the Apple TV then consider jailbreaking it on putting XBMC on it. That program automatically downloads the metadata and works with just about every format under the sun. No converting necessary. Plus it delivers all your content in an incredible snazzy and fully customizable view.

More info here on XBMC as a whole here:

Are there any good, free websites that would work well for hosting a webcomic?
I was considering something like tumblr, but the more I look at it, the less I like the format for a webcomic.

It depends on how resistant your hair is to being straightened. You might just be able to blow it out with a hair dryer i.e. dry from the root to the tip as you brush from the root to the tip. If that's not enough, you need a relaxer.

Anyone else not able to view their Hotmail messages suddenly?

A few hours ago Hotmail was just working fine, now nothing is clickable in both FireFox and IE. I had to use my tablet to send an urgent e-mail, but this is frustrating.

Ironic considering the Googlightning ad.

My Hotmail is fine.
Thanks for your input. Now I'm just even more confused and frustrated.

*click click click*

Nothing happens! Aaargh

Edit: same interface also not working in tablet.

Also tried disabling the reading pane in the options (which I had to Google for a direct link since I couldn't click to it). Nothing works :(

Edit2: I fixed it!*

*Somehow I had to do this: go to this link: https://login.live.com
Then it's like, just viewing my account information since I was already logged in. I clicked on "Hotmail" on that page and it provided me an option to use https. I thought, whatever, I just clicked on "Continue to Hotmail" instead of "Always use https". Anyway, that prompted FireFox with a certificate warning. I added the exception to FireFox, now I can suddenly view stuff again.

Yeah, no clue what changed during the short nap I had, but this at least fixed everything. I thought this was a different kind of hotmail page, but my previous bookmarked hotmail URL is what's working now and I believe that was always a https (secure) page in the first place.

I had that happen to me on xbox.com this weekend, I had to login to Hotmail and then open xbox.com in another tab while I was logged into Hotmail. The only time I've been glad they're the same thing.

In a live action film, maybe a live action tv show, of Batman, does The Joker ever kiss harley, candy, though could be another girl or hench-woman. A friend says she remembers it but I can't find a video or a mention of it through a google search.

Any bat/joker fans out there can help? =]

Anyone know how to fix my iTunes search bar graphic? It's been this way for several versions:
