What did Japanese typewriters look like before computers? My wife has only used electric typewriters which had a basic IME on them, allowing you to use a standard qwerty layout. But what about before electric typewriters? How did they handle all hiragana, katakana and kanji?

I would like to upload a compilation of scenes from a TV show Viacom has the rights to on YouTube. Does it have any hope of surviving? Perhaps there's something I can add to the description to clarify the proper ownership?

It can't hurt to say that you are not the original owner of the content, but one thing I have seen done in the past on Youtube is to horizontally flip (mirror) the video and it will bypass a lot of the content filter triggers.

Thanks for the reply. Mirroring is a good tip.

I have a question about Sanitation laws in NYC, or in general. If you live on the second floor, of a two apartment house, are you required to take out the trash cans, or are the people on the first floor responsible? The people living there, are also the owners.

I hope that made sense.

I think it depends on the lease, but in general, if the landlord lives there, moving the cans to the curb (and back) is probably their responsibility.

Dunno about NYC but in Boston no one touches them, people come around early in the morning to every house and pull them out to the curb.

When someone posts a picture, and writes something underneath to acknowledge that they are overweight, why does at least one person always say they look like Chris Farley, or a relative of Chris Farley? Yet when they do not add a description, no one says that.

So I use bar soap to wash my hands in the bathroom, and I put the soap back in the soap dish indent in the sink after lathering up and washing. I come back 2-3 hours later to use the bathroom again, and there is a relatively large amount of soapy water sloshing around in the soap indent underneath the bar. Is this normal? Is it the soap losing its retained/run off water? I don't think I have a leak in my sink, but there's always a weird amount of loose water when I come back.

Thanks. I figured that would be the case.

Sounds like something out of the homer Simpson sanitation department lol. Pretty awesome actually

So my amazon order went from "shipping soon" to back to "Not yet shipped." Never had this happen before, should I be concerned?
That doesn't really mean anything, especially if you chose FSSS. If you chose two-day shipping because you need it soon, then I would be more concerned.

What does LTTP stand for?

(Specifically in context to the Gaming thread)

It has two possible meanings:

Late To The Party

Link To The Past

The second meaning is obviously a reference to the Zelda game but both of those basically mean the same thing. You're playing/watching something that's pretty old.

I just bought a Gamecube at a garage sale. It had the Gameboy player attached to the bottom of it, but not the startup disc. Is the disc required to play Gameboy Advance games on the Gamecube?

Meh.
LTTP = Late To The Party
LttP = Link To The Past, and is only used to reference the Zelda game, not say you're late to play something.

EDIT: Even Urban Dictionary is in agreement.

Yeah.

What region is it? I have a Game Boy Player startup disc that was left behind when my Game Boy Player (and GameCube) was stolen. NTSC. I could probably send it to you if you pay for shipping.

EDIT: Assuming I can find it. wtf.

Does anyone know if there's going to be any new iPod announcements soon? I want to get a new one, as the battery in my old one only lasts for like an hour now, but the 160GB classic one is really way more space than I need, and I hate the new design of the nanos.

What's the best way for viewing PDFs that does not involve any software by Adobe? I'm still burning after that whole fiasco with what seemed to be some sort of exploit in Adobe Reader allowing a trojan through several months ago. Not actually sure it was Adobe Reader, but I know it came through NeoGAF and before everything went haywire, Reader kept trying to open, so I'd prefer something leaner and just as functional.

How come when I click on an RSS button (http://www.dccomics.com/feed in this instance) in Chrome, instead of opening up a Google Reader tab or giving me subscription options like most RSS buttons on websites do, it just opens up a new tab full of XML barf? How do I fix this and subscribe to the actual feed in Google?

I believe you copy the link, go to the reader and click on add rss. Than paste that link into it.

Anybody have a clue why my Windows Vista Aero theme has turned off and completely disappeared? I googled it and found some Yahoo answers results for it happening to others but no satisfactory explanation at all. It's just completely gone and I'm back to the Vista Basic theme.

Where's the best online retailer to purchase decent quality/decently priced ($50-$150) DC & Marvel collectablies (action figures, statues, ect)

What does a pimp do? I was watching Leaving Las Vegas, and it's just made me wonder. I understand why they'd need a 'madame' if they live some special whore house, but the street walking ones? All the pimp's role seems to be is take money.

Protection would be my second thought. After money grabbing.
