Apple sells 3 million new iPads in 3 days

Thanks for your input, it's quite a difficult choice. I'm gonna use it to play games and to use the internet. Some vids maybe. For music I use my Tosh. Well I got one night to think it over :D

@ See5harp: sorry. Didn't see your reply. Thanks!

I'd say get a 32, but to be honest, if I had to live with 16, I definitely could.

Keep in mind you can stream lots of stuff too. Netflix plus all the other video apps....then you have all the streaming music apps and such...

Yeah, that's true. But do you think 16GB is enough to store a decent amount of games? I can't wait to play Incoboto by the way. Looks awesome to me.

I guess it depends on what games and how you play them. Some are pretty big while others not so much. It's not really a gaming device for me apart from things like draw something and that type of game. I usually just play a game for a while and then move onto something else so if your device is full just uninstall some stuff you don't use anymore. You could always just install it again later if you want.

Damn...you're right. I just can download again. Why didn't I think of that :/
16GB will be enough in that case.

Stupid question, can't use just change out the heads on a 45w charger from a MBP to put on the iPad/iPhone adapter and charge it that way?

Nah, you can only charge the wall socket plug side on the adaptor - the charging end is attached.

Incoboto is an incredible game, easily one of my favorite on iOS. I have had a 16GB iPad 2 and never really run into storage problems. I also don't have any music on it and delete games once I beat them unless it's got great multiplayer, so I guess it depends entirely on how you use it.

No, you were predicting tablets overtaking PCs in China. That's what I'm arguing against, not against their success.

I still fail how that is analogous to the argument (which you still have not sourced) about styluses and the predictions for failure of the iPhone when it launched in China in 2009.

Browser, email, calendar, camera, music, phone, etc. come preloaded into the devices. The list doesn't show download numbers, and free lists consists of 16/25 non-gaming apps for iPhone, 19/25 iPad.

I'm not sure why you'd think this supports the claim that iOS devices aren't gaming devices. It means that people are MORE willing to pay money to download games.

I'm just pointing out your extrapolated statistics from the article don't mean as much you are thinking to prove that iPhones and iPads are gaming devices. People may be more likely to purchase gaming apps than non-gaming apps, but consider 1. How much people spend to purchase the hardware just for the built-in functions and free apps, and 2. How many of those built-in functions are games and how many are not.

You're basing your whole argument on "it's easier to write Chinese symbols", while history has shown it's not the most important thing for Chinese computing market. If it was resistive smartphones would be winnin there, while they're not. Simple as that.

Also, China is the biggest PC market and the fastes growing one too. It seem ability to write chinese symbols by hand isn't as cruicial to those people as you claim it to be.

They are growing faster because they're not all that popular yet, so they have a room to grow and it's easy to achieve big percentage rises.

77% of households don't have a computer.

Tablets like iPad are growing faster than PC growth in China, and China is the largest market for iOS + Android now:

Nearly 300% growth in 1 year.

Still waiting on your source for many people predicting iPhones doom when it launched in China due to lack of stylus.

Mine is media consumption in many ways, be it through browsing, watching video, flipboard or games. This why it not only killed portable gaming for me but also steals a lot of time from my TV and computer. For me it did not only replace functions with other devices but it created new with RSS feeds on flipboard for example I'm consuming news and articles like never before.

You are not using the information from that graph correctly. That's the market share of new activations, not the overall market share.

They have 300% growth in the share of new activations, and have overtaken the US in terms of market share of new users. I think they'll be the largest market soon enough, just like they overtook the US in market share of Internet users and cell phone users.

I might cave and get a new iPad 16GB tonight during a night launch here in town.
I was wondering though, with the increased resolution, don't apps take in more space to take advantage of that? I hope 16GB will suffice... I can imagine games like Infinity Blade: Dungeons being close to 2GB.

I'm planning to watch videos, play music, read comics and play some (graphically intensive) games once in awhile. Should probably go with 32GB, no?

I´ve been trying to justify to myself why i need to buy a tablet... but i´m failing miserably.

At home we currently have a desktop (that i use for gaming and some design projects i bring home from work) and a laptop my wife uses for web browsing (facebook) and her own side projects.

We each own android smartphones and i own a kindle (first version) for the summer beach trips and some occasional bedside reading.

Looking at my daily habits, i can´t justify buying an ipad, what would i use it for that i don´t already have a device for?

The desktop is essential for my gaming and windows CAD applications.

The laptop is essential for her projects

There is no way i´m bringing an ipad to the beach to read some books... plus the kindle has a perfect screen to combat the sun glare.

Stream music and videos? That is what i mostly do. I have 8 games installed and a lot of apps and have 11.3gb left on my 16gb.

I was like you but it it so convenient just say to lay in bed with the thing and do whatever and so much better than using the little phone screen. I mainly only use my pc for gaming and programming now. I rarely even turned it on since getting my ipad. Typing in landscape is so easy like a regular keyboard almost. I'd say if you were interested pick one up. You have a 14 day return window at the apple store if you don't like it.

Unless you (and the wife) are constantly gaming and/or doing work at home, you'll find the iPad to be a far more convenient and easier way to browse the web. I think most people (myself included) were of the "I have no use for an iPad. My PC does everything and more." mindset until they actually get one. Then you realize it's awesome not being tied to a desktop, and/or having to carry around a much heavier laptop around the house.

But yeah, I bring home my (beast of a) work laptop whenever I need to finish up some CAD projects at home.

If someone gave me an iPad I'd certainly use it, but since I already have my 15 inch laptop on the part of the coffee table that lifts up and extends towards me, I'm already set for browsing the internet with no compromises while also watching TV on the couch.

That's fine. Before I bought out iPad, I thought our lapdesk worked just fine for browsing on the couch, but even then the iPad proved to be more convenient & easier for web browsing. Plus, it's much easier to carry around the house in different rooms.

I've been really surprised how much use the iPad gets.
