Nvidia Kepler - Geforce GTX680 Thread - Now with reviews

If the coolers are the same, I'd rather go with EVGA over Asus. Best support you'll get for an NVidia card.

This exactly it, I've paid a premium in the past for EVGA cards over other manufacturers. They've never given me any reason to choose anyone else...

Lol ASUS knows how to make money.

Ncix Canada
Every other GTX 680 -> 499.99
ASUS -> 599.99

Although that's an extreme example Asus products are quite often higher priced.

I think AMD is in quite a pickle right now, they NEED to drop down the price, but damn I (and every other owned) will be livid if they drop it by $100~$200 in the 3 months its been on the market, they are fucked either way.

In the former scenario (AMD sitting still) AMD are, to an extent, practically handing the high-end market to nvidia in the here-and-now, whereas in the latter scenario (AMD responding) there's just some angry people who have already bought their product and in the future will probably just wait for nvidia's response before purchasing. The two aren't really comparable in terms of potential impact.

When is the 7870 comparitive card or mid range version coming out. Thats what im really interested in. I like where this is heading. After 2 in a row with AMD it might be back to Nvidia.

I'm really anxious for GK110, but damn it's going to cost a pretty penny. Wouldn't be surprised to see it launch at $800.

But GK110 shouldn't be used in the next series (GTX7xx)?
Because the GTX400 use GF104, the 500 use GF110, so (if it's like Intel's Tick-Tock) 600 use GK104 and 700 will use GK110... Or I'm wrong?

Hmm... those Witcher 2 benches were kinda disappointing... but anyway, it sounds like it might be smart to wait for the refresh or whatever nvidia has next... at least in my case. I really want to ditch my 5870, but I can't quite justify it yet.

If I want to play games like Skyrim, Batman AC, Mass Effect 3, Dues Ex HR, and Alan Wake on MAX settings @ 1920x1200 and 60fps with some AA thrown in, which cards should I be looking into?

I can't seem to find benchmarks for 1920 x 1200.

In all but DX HR, the 680 is better, also I havent seen any Benchies of AW.

GeForce GTX 560 Ti. That's what I have, and it maxes all those games with 60fps+.

It's the most cost efficient card on the market in terms of performance-to-cost ratios.

How big of a power supply does the 680 require? I'm [] <--- this close to pulling the trigger on one, I just need to make sure my current power supply can handle it/it will fit in my case.

500W+

You could get away with less with high quality PSUs. I wouldn't recommend less than 430 though.

I love me some Nividia but I'm still not gonna upgrade from my Gtx 460. Games today don't really push PC hardware due to this generation going on for so long. Once the next gen comes out then I'll upgrade to 700 or 800 series card. My 460 is still kicking ass!!

Yes, yes, yes, no.

eVGA is going to have the SuperClocked, FTW, Classified, and Hydro Copper variants out.

Hydro Copper will be out 1st or 2nd week of April, and will have a standard or Classified option, both with a Swiftech full cover block, I believe.

I actually think this is the smartest thing. Until more than 1 or 2 games a year push your video card, there's no point really if you can live with it.

I'm pretty much in this situation. Even if Metro: Last Light is beefy as fuck, I will keep my GTX570 until Crysis 3-ish games and the GTX780.

So, to summarize all the info we got today, the GTX 680 is:

-faster
-cooler
-quieter
-cheaper
-more power efficient
than the 7970 ?

Plus it has 4 screens doable with 1 card, Active V-Sync and GPU Boost.

Did I miss something ?

Better IQ because of all the AA options in it.

Probably none, the initial wave is all reference design.
Even the shot of the EVGA water cooled design had the stacked connectors.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Odd decision for AC not to make their cooler compatible with that design. Guess that means we'll see flat designs coming as well.

To what end all boards will be limited the same for overclocking. Only thing I can think of is more RAM

Is TXAA only available for Kepler or will other nVidia cards benefit?

It seems like Nvidia could have charged $550 out of the gate for these and still sold a ton, because it seems to best the 7970 in most(all?) benches. I'm actually really surprised they released it at $500. This next month will be a great time to buy a video card, let the price wars begin!

If you ask me they're living off their old reputation from when they were a niche company with high quality. Their quality seems to be below average at this point, yet they still get people to pay them a premium they no longer warrant.

Haha, oh wow. Just received a newsletter from my local hardware pusher with the Gainward 680, supposed to be in stock tomorrow. Price? $920

Yeah fuck that.

Oh god, can't believe I'm actually considering upgrading to this from a 580 :o . I'll think about it for a week or two. I can most likely get back what I paid for my DirectCU II if I sold it now.

Still using a 1080p display but I don't want to upgrade to a higher res monitor since the current one is a 120hz one. I'll take the refresh rate over the higher resolution for now.

Very solid card. Any idea on the amount of stock in this first batch? I'm thinking in a weeks time, that anyone who got this card for $499 now is going to feel extremely lucky.

So the only knock on it right now seems to be Witcher 2 and Metro performance? A bit of a bummer considering I know a lot of people really wanted a great card for Uber settings in W2.
