I find it hilarious that you criticized me for informing GAF of a leak but you broke the NDA yourself. What I did makes me a horrible person deserving of hate, but when someone points our what you did, it becomes a nonsensical debate over a hypothetical situation. Very mature, thanks for contributing to the thread. I never got a reply from ArenaNet anyway so I hope you're satisfied.

I never said you were a horrible person or deserved any hate. I just feel like some folks in this topic are being disingenuous with some things. The hype train needs to slow down a bit. It really doesn't do anyone any good to have unrealistic expectations this early when not enough is known and hyperbole keeps getting tossed back and forth. If you were around for the SWTOR pre-beta and beta discussion, you can see where that leads. A lot of folks went into that game with unfairly hyped up expectations and the alot of the honest to goodness views frequently got drowned out leading up release.

I'm gonna go lay down because i'm sick as a dog, but i'd thought I'd share this with most of you in this thread:

I'm thinking about doing a GAF GW2 podcast, discussing important topics with a lot of people who frequent this thread. It'd be neat to hear our thoughts on what's going on in a more official, GAF style. You can hear what we think and put a voice to our names.

Those of you who are gonna play with us in the GAF guild anyway are gonna hear us on vent or mumble or whatever, so it'd be a good time to get used to who we are.

I'm gonna message certain people in this thread to see if they want to partake and set up the first "episode" as it were.

yay! i used to have a podcast :(

Okay going to bed, some thoughts on Ghosts of Ascalon: pretty sweet. Liking the protagonists so far. I'm on chapter five I think.

Dougal is awesome. In my brain, my future GW2 Human character is going to be drinking buddies with him.

On that note, I'm reminded of the fact that I'm such a closet role-player. In RPGs, while I never speak in character or anything, I always tend to think about my character's personality, motivations, and reactions. It's my theatre-kid side showing itself, I suppose. The personality system is another reason I'm really psyched for GW2. The whole idea of balancing your character's charm, ferocity, and dignity is really cool for me.

You addressed none of my previous statements with this reply and attempted to change the subject. I have no interest in continuing to argue with you. Just try to refrain from making unreasonably harsh accusations toward the entire thread. We've done a good job of not losing our minds so far and we need to keep calm all the way to release to keep our expectations in check. Antagonizing us won't help your case.

So, how many of you are from Australia or similar timezones? I'm really looking forward to this and would love to join the GAF guild if possible, kind of want to know how many people would be on around the same times as me though.

Also, the mystic chests, as a speculation, would probably contain the same things similar items contain from other games, potions, mats, food, maybe in this case dyes and costume pieces and possibly gold. though I can't say for sure.

Will be playing from Japan here!

Tell me exactly what you want me to address without putting words in my mouth and without trying to implicate me in breaking an NDA ;)

I think we can all agree that the next round of press information released on Monday will go a long way (hopefully) in assuaging any fears some folks, like myself, might have as well as answer some of the burning questions on everyone's minds so that we don't have to speculate as much anymore. The speculation is what is driving me nuts right now. Press having a second round at this makes me hopeful that Monday will be better, more concise information since these guys are coming into this now with some experience and that shiny new game veneer has had a chance to dull just a tad.

They need to jack up the price on that megaphone item. That thing is $100 on TF2 and people still buy that shit. I saw a message today even though it's been out for over a month.

I completely see where you're coming from. I loved the way his attitude changed during the story and how his character evolved. Mr. Keane, I salute you! On that note however, I wonder if we'll see him in game?

A little under 13 hours to go.

Probably the expression of every lucky soul that managed to get in.

To my knowledge, access to those two races are still blocked.

From what people said when they got to connect for about 20 min the other day, Sylvari and Asura weren't in. Remains to be seen if that is still the case. Obviously come April with no more NDA, they'll have to have all of the races in.

For some the last two races are in and for some they're out :)

Do elaborate. (fuck waking up randomly because you're sick :( )

EDIT: Looking at your post history, I can see that you're in the beta. Are you a member of press?

EDIT: More internet sleuthing brings me to Jeff Grubb's website (which happens to be Ghosts of Ascalon's writer, one of them). Are you Jeff Grubb?

Oh? Yeah I'm willing to bet the media gets access to Sylvari & Asura so they have something new to talk about on Monday.

It might also explain why they get an extra day (if this is true, I'm not sure if it was ever verified and I don't remember the source for it).

I want them to reveal their retail partners for the pre-purchase :(

Being able to pre-purchase via Steam would be nice as well.

As long as I don't have to use a creditcard.

Get better soon Max!!!! I hear Ascalonian Salad may help?

Sad to hear that only some have access to Sylvari and Asura. Kind of odd. Would figure they would want more testers with the 2 races that werent in the last beta.

I really hope they test the crafting system this weekend. Let ingredients be readily avaliable at a nearby vendor, just to see if advancement works as intended. Would love to see some of the cooking recipes and what buffs they will produce. This may not be a popular thing people will want to see though due to spoiling, but I sure dont mind being spoiled.

I really just hope we see more than weaponsmith and armorsmith. I want to see cooking for sure, but anything other than those two would be great.

Armor/weaponsmithing are ones I dont want to see. I dont mind seeing stats from results, just not models or skins. Crafting something yourself and seeing it the first time is one of those "magical" moments in MMO's for me. But I'm an aesthetic loot whore.

I wonder how much time it will take to max the easiest craft. Being that they said cooking would be the hardest craft, which is the quickest/easiest. Love the fact that you can swap craft specializtions, keeping points of ones you have leveled up. There better be some crazy title for someone who has maxxed all crafting trees.

Sorry, bored at work, going off on crazy tangents. Maybe a little to excited for Monday to see new info.

I definitely see myself being one of those people that tries to max out all the crafting types. Have no clue what my first ones will be though, I will have to see them to decide.

On a side note, I guess from yogscasts video on Mist of Pandaria beta, they say after playing guild wars 2 wow seems very static and old schooled. Haven't watched it myself yet, stole it from reddit.

Sorry man, we just be on two completely different wavelengths. We'll just have to agree on the fact that I have no idea what you are trying to say. Even in your basketball example not everybody has a ball, not everybody has their own separate hoop. The boss is the hoop, and everybody has part to play.

We're kind of derailing so we'll just go on our merry ways knowing that we just don't agree with each other on this aspect.

And that's why I love GAF.

/cheers to Grandmaster Crafting title.

Is it April 10th yet? There I go, wishing my life away.....

One thing I dont recall seeing, is any home instance footage. Really would like to see some.

I can't wait for people to underestimate my Asura thief in PvP. :P

I'm the same way when I'll be playing an Asura. I loved playing my Gnome Warrior in WoW and being this crushing force in this cute little adorable gnome body. I would always smile when smashing those much bigger. lol

I share a similar mindset, I can enjoy random roleplay, but I'm never one to get so steeped in lore that I know enough to really roleplay. I guess it's just the idea of the MMO world letting me be someone else for a little bit and having a place. As I mentioned, I'll be rolling Asura, so it's the idea of being the small guy going up against big odds and overcoming challenges, etc etc.

edit: Also, has there been any mention of this showing up on Steam on April 10th for preorder??

"Is that Retro on Mumble?"
"Yeah..."
"It sounds like Batman."
"And?"
"Retro's a girl."
"He only
plays girls, dude."
"Oh..."
".... You've been flirting with him, haven't you?"
".... Yeah."

I'm the same way, even though I haven't done any real role-playing since the old AOL RP chatrooms in the 90s. Since you can jump servers in GW2, it might be an opportunity to hop over to an RP server once in a while and try it again.

According to a video interview with Ree Soesbee, you can
visit Killeen's grave in-game. GAF Funeral Service commence.

I was wondering if that would be the case the second that happened. I can remember finding all the little places like that in WoW. Even though it was for real people in a fictional world, it always made the game world feel a little more real.[/IMG]

Yeah, as I mentioned at the start of that post, we're just not going to be able to take this beyond theory until we actually get our paws on the game and I'm running out of different ways to explain myself. We'll just have to let it rest for the moment.

After watching the TB Catacombs Explorable again, it brought up a question.....

What the heck are the naming conventions for the game? I saw people with 1 word names, some with 2 (like GW), and even some with 3. Which brings up another thought. Since you can swap servers, how are they handling name duplication? Will your home server character names conflict with those of other home servers? If so, the 3 day head start is even more important for name hoarders and reservations.

You have 15 characters for your name. So you can do it any way you want.

Thanks Max. Ugh...so we will more than likely see names like "Wtfpwnsaucehaha".....QQ

After seeing my GF off and grabbing chik fil a as my prize, I am back!

I actually am going to watch that mists of pandaria video just to see what they think.

I really believe GW2 has that "effect" on people where once you see it/know it/play it, you really can't go back.

I have absolutely no desire to play any other MMO because it will be like Retro says, a diku clone.

I love the chaos that GW2 has, because it feels like they're injecting a bit of PVP into PVE - randomness and on-the-fly tactics, which a battle in real life is always like.

EDIT: Wow, they really tear MOP a new one. "Why the fuck do we have to invite to a group? It's so... ancient." "And his cart will be upside down for the next ten years. Because that's world of warcraft. they never change things like that."
