Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

Big or not depends how much you're looking forward to Epic Mickey 2.

But I think we have more evidence of a Wii U version.

Apparently Blitz is behind the PS360 port. Why is this evidence?

Because someone from Blitz has a Linkedin page saying he was involved with a AAA Multiplatform game on the PS360. Guess what he also said? He's working on a Wii U launch title.

Zing.

Edit: Quote from the page, not naming him to give him some peace:

Interesting. Though apparently Junction Point itself is also a licensed Wii U developer, so I wonder what their role is.

Google quote you posted. . . .found him
very easily . . .considers setting Rosti on his ass!!

Ah, so that means it's already in use.
Yep . . . stocks are nearly depleted too... :-/ we must sacrifice more pikmin to top up levels. . .

This thread is starting to go nowhere, fast :/

I hate all the bickering.

I hate all the bitching and moaning in general. Also the lack of imagination, the lack of inspiration. The utter disdain for anything other than pure technological progress or innovation. The fact that I can't read a goddamn thread nowadays without seeing 'Samaritan' mentioned.

...

I've said it before but I really mean it now, I'm skipping GAF entirely during E3. It's not worth it.

I noticed in the cache and source of http://www.warioworld.com, the following objects appear:

/images/splash/splash_newctr_high.jpg
/images/splash/splash_newwii_high.jpg
/images/splash/splash_newds_high.jpg
/images/splash/splash_newctr_low.jpg
/images/splash/splash_newwii_low.jpg

CRT's for 3DS, so that's not very interesting, but I assume newwii stands for Wii U, unless NoA is aiming at bringing Wii Model RVL-101 to North America (this is very unlikely). Or maybe it's just something arbitrary they've disabled, but why keep it then? Anyway, those images I really would like to see.

They are however put under the following designation, and can't be directly accessed:

Code:
image#off = new Image();
  image#off.src =

I'll play around with the source code to see if I can access them somehow.

Considering how Wii U is partly a handheld system, I wonder if it will have some sort of a sleep mode. You know how you could save a VC game's state to return to it later? What if part of Wii U's flash memory was used that way - but for disc-based games? It would be pretty fricken cool to be able to pick up and play a game right where you left off just like a DS/3DS without having to go through the loading and all that crap. It would also be much more energy efficient and better for the console than pausing games for long periods of time, too. Oh, and I wouldn't expect this to be for more than one game at a time; it would erase the save state once you loaded it back up or ejected the disc.

YOU'RE TEARING US APART IWATA

Point taken. I still believe that the title of the OP and the fact that a mod posted it made the thread quickly go into the shitter.

Inside this thread the article has context, which is why it should have stayed here. Posting that thread with that title on the main board was only every going to spread misinformation and cause controversy, it didn't warrant its own thread.

Although the focus of the thread is on the Wii U's technical capabilities I don't see the "utter disdain" for non-tech things that you're talking about.

And people who don't care about technological progress or innovation should be interested in how the Wii U does in that area anyway, since how close it turns out to be from the next PS and Xbox consoles will determine which games they get to play on their Nintendo system. Nobody gives a shit about Samaritan, Unreal Engine is where it's at.

Also I would recommend skipping GAF before E3 not during it; it's in these empty times that baseless speculation and guessing is done, and that seems to be what annoys you.

Hm. I think that might refer to games. So New Wii is just new games for the wii.

We must have sport and drink to fix broken bonds.
Nintendo fans. Slaves set free from the rein of SD tyranny. Raising arms and tackling The Realm of HD head on and stead fast.

So you desperately want a sequel to a game but aren't willing to play on the platform said sequel appears on? That's a nice trap you've sprung for yourself.

I know. I have all three consoles. The last handheld I bought was a GBA advance. I bought a bunch of games for it and really couldn't get into them. Either my hands are too big and I find it uncomfortable, or the screen is too small, etc. I drive everywhere so I don't take any mass transportation. If I'm sitting in a room, I'd rather play on the tv. My wife usually goes to bed before me and wouldn't appreciate the light from the portable. If I manage to go into the bedroom before her, I usually just read. It's just not conducive to my lifestyle. I also don't want to purchase even more systems. I have to fight just to keep all main three platform holders as it is.

I'm not complaining. I just wish more of Nintendo's resources were put forth into the console and not portable market but I understand why it does what it does. $

It's the drama. The sheer drama placed upon these issues that actually disgusts me. Yes, if Nintendo's system is too far behind the next-gen systems, it will be left behind. Fine. So what? Buy another system. If Nintendo decides this isn't the generation in which they'll attempt to get 3rd parties on their side, okay. They'll still make good games, the system will still be worth owning.

I don't know. I guess I've been gaming too long, maybe I'm out of touch or something. I just find the mixture of vitriol and bitterness to be utterly pathetic.

Nah, man. I've cut down my GAF significantly already. I'm skipping E3 so I don't have to relive the 'It doesn't even look as good as the PS360 versions' when those are exactly what are being shown. Those moments are just... bleh.

I have a game I want to speculate about...

3DS has an Epic Mickey 2 version to itself so looking at the only other Nintendo platform beside DS that has two screens and is not getting the other Epic Mickey 2

how likely is that game 3DS/WiiU?

probably same grafix capabilities as well so it's a perfect match

I think the Wii U will just get the 360/Ps3 version but with touch screen controls like painting on the screen etc.

Interesting idea!

OT: Here in UK, I just received Iwata's Mii on my 3DS as it's the first anniversary.

I hope Retro doesn't show some 'target renders' like Metroid at Space World 2000.

Although if Wii U can match it, then that's fine. Still, I think they'll show what they have in real-time.

I'm sure we'll get an engine showcase or 2 that will make some people eat crow, and then we'll get some CG footage that'll make the haters go LOLCGGGG NINTENDO SMH and then I'm sure we'll get 2 or so actual gameplay videos that look pretty damn good but nothing CRAZY and everyone will be somewhere in the middle of those 2 extremes.

Which Nintendo owned/affiliated studios are available to produce titles with 'very rich graphics' within 18 months of the U launch?

assuming a 2-3 year development period at the minimum:

ead 3 (zelda team)
ead 4 (pikmin team)
retro studios
ead tokyo

zelda's iffy because it would be 2.5 dev period maximum to get a new one out the door, and they probably took a bit of a break and will try to evaluate what they want to do with the series after skyward sword.

pikmin should hit that time frame without any problems. the team isn't known for for rich-looking games (at least recently), but pikmin is the sort of series that would naturally have them.

retro studios because the last game they did would have released 2 years from the point the wii u will probably launch. metroid prime hit in the first 18 month period of the gamecube's life, and metroid prime 3 hit in the first 18 months of the wii's.

ead tokyo has two teams, and i think the 3d land/galaxy 1 guys are the ones making the wii u mario platformer. unfortunately. they're right with the zelda team with regards to time, but 3d land was made by four people in a basement somewhere in culver city so maybe the wii u game is further along than it should be.

The correct answer is anyone. NST (Metroid Prime Hunters, Project Hammer), EAD Kyoto (Zelda, Pikmin), EAD Tokyo (Super Mario Galaxy, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat), Monolith Soft (XenoBlade), Next Level Games (Punch Out Wii, Luigi's Mansion 2), etc. etc.

You never know who can come out of the woodworks with something special.

I think they did already, unless 101 is another redesign:

NST is debatable now since NST today is doubtful to be the NST from 2006.

And the only really impressive looking game from NLG is Punch-Out, and that's just in style and animation (very valid of course).

Monster Games is actually a good candidate since Excite Truck looked really good and was a launch title.

I wish NST could revive Hammer on Wii U in its original vision and not the obviously bastardized Wii Crush incarnation.

Now as a very likely partnership that could be underway that would almost surely impress, is with Arzest, basically Artoon 2.0 co-founded by Ohshima himself. They worked on Wii Play Motion and added features to StreetPass Mii Plaza. O_o

If Nintendo helps them create a new IP on Wii U retail, whoo boy I think we can see something beautiful and original. Flingsmash was beautiful in its style, shame it was more of an action scrolling puzzle game and not a platformer.

You are right, I didn't know this actually, thought it was only for Europe (that's what the initial statement was regarding this revision). Well, then that image may be of 101, a generic Wii image or an image of Wii U.
