Haven't read the thread for a while so i'm sorry if this has already been asked.

Is the Comic finished or still on going?
How much will i spoil the tv-series if i start to read it?

I really liked this season and i'm itching for more.

I just read the first 12 issues this week after having watched both seasons of the TV show first.

I'll just say that the characters in the comic, at least through the first 12 issues, are far different than their TV counterparts. Some of the set pieces are the same, except for 1 major set piece in the comic just before they get to the farm, that was omitted from the TV show, for obvious budgetary reasons. There's also one major set piece from the TV show that doesn't appear in the first '2 seasons' of the comic. About the only 2 characters in the comic that seem to be somewhat close to their TV counterparts are Dale and Rick. The comic also has a few more characters through the first 12 issues that I've read, and is missing one major character from the TV show.

I can see how people who have followed the comic for years might be disappointed in the TV show. There's a huge disconnect between the two in terms of character development. Don't get me wrong though, I absolutely love the TV show, and I'm greatly enjoying the comic and I think they're both worthy of your attention.

Yep....

And ..in reference to missing set piece missing from tv show that was in the comic.

I can't fully confirm but from another thread/link, the town where Shane took Andrea in the tv show to look for Sophia but was desolate, where the ran into a home or two and then had to shoot their way out sort of a trial by fire shooting lesson for Andrea was the Wiltshire Estates (I assume that is the set piece that is missing from your read) that was missing in the show but was a small but major part of the comic prior to the farm.

I am glad to see more and more people reading the comic and acknowledging the issue early adopters of the comics have with the show. It's not that we hate the show its that it is in fact a huge disconnect from the original portrayal of the twd universe.

It's like making a Star Wars TV show and deciding that its better to make Padmé Darth Vader and Chewbacca play the role of princess Leia just because someone thought it would be nice to do something different.

Cool. I was hypothesizing the same thing after watching Season 2 and reading through that part of the comic. Both places looked very similar and the nature of those areas fit the bill when comparing the graphic novel and TV Series.

Oh come on, man. That's some terrible hyperbole and you know it. I'm on Vol 5 of the comic and I think the TV series has done a fantastic job of following the lore and obeying the rules of TWD universe that were established in Kirkman's graphic novel. Sure, a couple characters don't quite match up with their comic book counterparts and some plot devices are tweaked around a bit, but appropriate story progression and character development is still there albeit taking a slightly different, sometimes even more engaging approach in the TV series.

I love the comic and I also love that the TV series isn't a carbon copy of it in motion. Adds some fun and refreshing spins on concepts that were explored in the graphic novel.

I love both too but the changes are dramatic.

I wont get too much into it as that is what the spoiler thread is for but for the sake of argument so far

(comic to tv show differences *******************)

Shane still living and not being killed by carl early on.

Dale and Andrea Romance.

Not introducing Tyreese and his daughter and her boyfriend. (I guess this is Daryl's role now since they seem to be pushing for a carol and daryl romance which was supposed to be Tyreese and Carol romance), I guess tyreese will just go straight to the michonne romance, I don't think there has been mention of his daughter for the show)

Otis and Patricia make it to the prison.

Numerous characters missing, a few kids that bite the bullet later on.

Sophia dying and eliminating the young romance between her and carl.

Trying to make a home at the Wiltshire Estates during the winter.

That is a lot of changes

It's not just a don't match up scenario, it is a rewrite

TBH I think characters like T-Dog are still in it to have one of those surge in importance. He seems to be sane and doesn't step out of line too often as long as he knows whatever Rick or Shane were saying was the right thing to do. Now with just Rick leading I can imagine T-Dog will rise to importance as Rick doesn't often make the right decision.

I don't follow the comics or anything, but I wonder how many new characters we're going to be introduced to in the prison? the group got a little smaller after the finale. either way, I'm pretty excited to see where it goes as far as relationships between characters. Laurie's schizophrenic character doesn't make sense to me at all, (thank you poor writing) so I couldn't care less if she goes against her husband or not...

But I am curious to see how much of the group will split and if they'll split.

Somewhat minor spoilers about that question.

They introduce 4 interesting characters inside the prison during the comics. Additionally, an important character named Tyreese that should have been introduced already could possibly show up there to if they plan to include him in the show. It seems like they gave his role in the group to Darryl though in the show.

I think they already said they plan to include that character

would be stupid not to regardless

T-dawg's purpose for surviving is for the inevitable Merle return. Once Merle comes back and they have a confrontation, the cycle is complete and T can die. Seriously, that's the only reason he's still there.

Besides, I love how the only black man on the show is also a huge coward. :/

I've heard a lot of that, but honestly Daryl and him are two radically different people.

Light Comics Spoiler:
Rick gets a few sidekicks throughout the series, so it's not out of the question for them to introduce more.

.

Lets see,

Tyreese, his Daughter, and his Daughter's "boyfriend" are introduced right before the prison
4 Prisoner's are introduced in the prison
Michonne is introduced (as 3 of the prisoner's "depart")
Lots of villain characters in the Governer's Camp
A Doctor/Nurse from that camp, crosses over to the Prison, just in time for Lori's pregnancy!
The Prison Saga should be called "One Gigantic Culling" as I can think of at least 18 characters biting the big one, by the end of the arc.

ha, your last line. I can see them doing it like that in the show as well to set up season 4.

Light Comics Spoiler:

Actually while thinking about it, a good place to introduce him would be while Andrea and Michonne are on the road in the beginning of S3. I would imagine it'll be at least a few episodes before they find the prison and meet back up with Rick and company.

Plus, it would let them introduce his daughter and her boyfriend that way too, which would be difficult if they decide to have Tyrese as a prisoner instead.

I am excited that today or tomorrow my Omnibus Book Volume 1 comes in. I am looking forward to re-reading the books after watching the show. Also interested in the quality of the Omnibus to see if I want to order the others.

just saw the finale, []Shane leading Rick out in the woods for the kill and BAM! Carl shows up after the epic knife lunge? WTF?[/spoiler]

Not the finale and you don't need spoiler tags for anything that's already aired. Though I could see how that would be confusing when comics spoilers, which are also supposed to be kept out of here whenever possible, are also being posted heavily.

I never noticed the tightening of the belts in season 2.

Beyond having the season be in one location, I don't even know what they cut per episode.

They should increase the budget for the top show on cable. They could save some money though by not including every character in every episode. Make an episode more focused on a few characters.

Oh, that doesn't sound like a terrible idea.

The whole lab thing? That mustn't have been cheap. And the city episodes with the massive amount of zombies? How many times did you really see a horde of zombies in S2?

I wonder how much of an increase. If they bring it back to Darabont levels then it's like they ditched him for nothing.

I guesssssssssss. But S1 wasn't pulling S2 ratings.

And the show got dramatically better when he left, sorry to say/

Season 2 didn't need more budget than what it had because it kept pretty close to the original comic books story. The expensive stuff in season 1? That was mostly stuff they added to the show that wasn't in the original.

AMC tightened their belts perhaps, but it also was likely because they realized that the story line of season 2 really didn't require as high as budget.

Season 3 on the other hand will need a higher budget for the storyline it's going to present. I imagine alot of things are going to get left out for the show though because of how crazy some of it is in the storyline being adapted.

I wonder how much of S1's budget went on the pilot

Well the whole season with many episodes being set in the city would have greatly increased the budget. All the set pieces, having to get filming permits and shutting down parts of the city. All the extras and military gear left sitting around... all cost. They splurged on those 6 episodes.
