Apple idiots and Android idiots shitting up the same thread. I would never purchase another samsung phone after my last two(Samsung Instinct and Moment), but they seem to make two tiers of phones. God tier(Galaxy SII/Nexus/Note) or shit tier(Everything else).

I thought it was ridiculous when it was first announced but the commercial actually made it look pretty good.

I'd be interested in seeing more of these types of devices, especially if the stylus support is good.

It's good to see it selling well. I thought about getting one myself when my upgrade is available, but I don't think they're making one for Sprint.

It's crazy to see how much Gizmodo is shitting on the thing constantly, though.
Just do a search for the Galaxy Note on Gizmodo.

I guess if I were a woman and already had a bag with me most of the time I would buy one. Otherwise it's too impractical. I refuse to buy anything over 3.5".

Admittedly, I have tiny fingers for a guy but the Galaxy Note felt HUGE in comparison to my Galaxy Nexus when I tried one.

It's a beautiful phone... or phablet *shudder*, but it's just way too big for daily use imo.

37 million iPhones, not just the 4S. Not that it isn't still a huge number, but let's be fair.

The 4S wiki page says 37 million but it doesn't specify whether it's just the 4S or all iPhones.

That's a seriously tiny "maximum". Do you actually put your pocket or is do you have it swinging from one of those neckband things? I think most people would find a phone too big for their hands before it was too big for their pants.

This bodes rather well for the note maintaining the top end/top spec out of the galaxy family.

Which is great, because I want my next phone to be a phablet as well, preferably a SGN2 or SGN3.

My phone had a big ass update this morning, and I thought I'd be greeted by ICS. No such luck unfortunately.

From now on I shall do this in every sales thread in the gaming forum but with CoD sales instead. You can never have too much of that perspective.

Just a heads up; getting a ban on the gaming side means you will be unable to post in OT as well. It's scary over there, or so i hear.

I messed around with a demo model in a Future Shop last month. it’s ridiculously large to use as a phone and try to carry in a pocket but it seems like a decent size for, well, note taking and other PDA tasks if you are OK taking it around in a portfolio or sleeve.

still seems like a niche device. I’m surprised it even shipped 5 million up to now.

The screen is brilliant on this thing. unmatched
I was blown away when i saw it.

too big for me though and I would need an outdoor version

Fits in a normal jean pocket, albeit a tad awkwardly (if you have it vertical, it'll probably end up pressing against your hip bone, but you can orientate it horizontally and it won't... although you might not get it in horizontally).

Ok, that sounds a bit bad, and I can definetly see how for some people that would be a deal killer.

But at the same time, that extra inch (or nearly 2 inches on an iphone) just makes it as a touch screen device, so much more usable. So much better. For many people, remembering to flip it around before you sit, or take it out of the pocket, is not a big deal, certainly a far smaller deal than having an extra inch or two of screen real estate.

People like Apple iPhones in spite of the now diminutive size. But they and their supporters are wrong about thinking that 3.5" is the optimal size for smartphone devices.

The sales data of android phones can show as much.

That said, although more screen is always better for touch screen use, the Note is probably already pushing the upperside of that boundary between screen size and carryability. It's just that many find it suprising that the curve (of user want as a phone versus screen size) would even go up that high on the screen size axis.

I've walked around with a Vita in my pocket, so I doubt the size of this phone would be an issue for me. I'm like the resident smart phone hater but this looks awesome. I want it.

it’s safe to say that we disagree on pretty all these points about size. having to be consciously aware of the orientation of the phone in my pocket is ridiculous and is not worth the extra screen size. having to hold that tablet up to my face to talk is ridiculous.

and, no. bigger isn’t always better for all touch screens. the Note is way over that boundary of “carryability”. I’d say the galaxy Nexus is around that limit. it’s still beyond my limit but I can see how it would be OK for others.

as for sales... the iPhone 4S is still the top selling handset out there. it’s 3.5”. maybe if more android phone makers actually tried to make 3.5” or 4” flagship products, there would be more data to compare the desirability of different screen sizes. but right now, if a consumer wants a flagship phone other than an iPhone, they’re pretty much forced to get an android phone with a 4.3” or bigger screen.

on a similar note, I think it’s a shame the Lumia 800 is getting pushed aside for the larger and more unwieldily Lumia 900.

I'm not a big guy. 5 ft 6 with size 30-32 waist. I don't wear cargo pants with extra large pocket either. Just dress pants and khakis. The note fits perfectly in my pants. I guess people who wear skinny jeans would have trouble putting it in the pocket. I use the phone naked though, I find that it's too thick when you use a case.

Most of the complains about the note is about phone not fitting in pockets which is not true most of the time.

Hell, I'd make phonecalls my ipad if it allows me. I'm a proponent for one device to rule them all. Less things to carry in my pocket = good.

I get that some people would be bothered by that. Can you get how some people wouldn't? If you weren't bothered by it... then how would having a bigger screen be anything but good?

I guess it's like the difference between people that carry tiny wallets and fat wallets. I'm a slim standard sized wallet person myself.

I can see myself using this, until I think of actually using it as a phone... must look like a fucking fool holding that thing up to your face, in all honesty.

Will drop pants for Sony.
Five million shipped. That isn't five million sold. That's an important distinction.

I was thinking the same thing. Man that is one big phone. I have big hands but I don't want a phone that big. I doubt I would buy anything Samsung again after learning they put crappy capacitors in most of their LCD tvs. My tv was one of those models.

If you're going to compare these two phones, then to really put it in perspective, Samsung overtook Apple in smartphone sales during Q3 2011, with a total market share of 23.8%, compared to Apple's 14.6%.
So... 80+ phones vs 1 phone (two models) = 24% vs 15%... yeah, not bad at all I say. Not the fairest of comparisons regardless, either way, but those stats don't really mean jack tbh.

But it's fair to compare the sales of the Iphone 4s to the Note?

Note looks nice, but I have to wait another year to get a new phone..

The point being made here is that when you compare two phones that might appeal to different markets and are placed on a different marketing spectrum and brand importance for the respective companies, then your facile sales analysis isn't going to be very relevant at all.

The only thing I can gleam out of a post that compares Galaxy Note sales to the iPhone 4S is that someone is trying to compare the strenght, domination, and tact of Apple to Samsung. But as we can clearly see, Samsung seems to have a very solid smart phone strategy as is.

Thread title is misleading. Shipped =/= Sold.

Regardless, this ad for it is pretty fucking brilliant; http://youtu.be/KBrmaE82uY4

That is a very good ad. And yes, all comparisons to Apple (for better or worse) are meaningless. The 37 million in 3 months vs. 5 million in 5 months is obviously comparing apples to oranges, as is comparing the market share of a company with dozens of handsets to that of a company with 2/3 on sale at any given time.

Why are you using Strategy Analytics Q3 data when Q4 data is available?

Q3 data:

Samsung passed Apple.

Q4 data:
http://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...lytics-Apple-Worlds-Largest-Smartphone-Vendor
Apple passed Samsung.

You might have missed this part from that second article:

“While Apple took the top spot in smartphones on a quarterly basis, Samsung became the market leader in annual terms for the first time with 20 percent global share during 2011. With global smartphone shipments nearing half a billion units in 2011, Samsung is now well positioned alongside Apple in a two-horse race at the forefront of one of the world’s largest and most valuable consumer electronics markets.”

Regardless, if you read my previous post, you'll realize that I'm pointing out the absrudity of comparing the sales of Note with those of 4S.

I have this phone, I'm not surprised it's selling so well. Went to the Galaxy Note after an iPhone 4. I love reading books and Manga on the screen without zooming in. The pen is great for writing unknown Kanji into the dictionary. Couldn't be happier right now.

Oh man, my carrier has this phone and my contract is up. That screensize is just gorgious, and perfect for me, since i lay in bed and surf the web and watch youtube videos in the morning and before i go to sleep at night. The problem is, i will be going from a Xperia Mini with a screen size of 3.0 inches, to a 5.3" monster, and i fear how it will look in real life... a bit like using an ipad or samsung tablet as a phone haha... I just don't know, i wouldn't want to look like a nerd, even though that is what i am.

Can you use this phone with one hand for normal operations like checking email or writing a quick reply?

A bit OT but since we don't have a dedicated thread for the note, can anyone recommend a cover/case?

Not unless your thumb is as long as your fingers. OR it could be very UI centric with corner tools (think Path) to make things easier, but I don't think that's really how it works.

I can see something like this being great for a specific group of people, but all-in-all I think the phone+tablet combo achieves more across a wider range of audiences.

I guess that depends on the size of your hand. I don't have big hands, so 4-4.5in screen phones are about as big I think I can go to do things with one hand.

I can't use it with one hand.

I can recommend the Zenus cases, they are made in Korea and I bought mine from ebay. They don't use magnets so they won't mess up the Wacom digitizer.
