GOG News and Updates 2012

For the reasons Minsc mentioned above it's one of the only series where it's pretty much essential to play the games in the right order.

Ok. I have seen that the first one has been remade officially, the second one unofficially. It seems the venture could be very pleasant.

The text parser versions of the first two games are also really amazing. I usually prefer playing it that way since they're faster, especially if you want to grind stats.

I love these constant 'announcement of announcement'. "Hey, here's what we announced. But stay tuned, there are more things to announce next month!" I won't be surprised if during that conference they'll have an announcement of announcement for E3 just like last year.

They will announce 1 new game at the conference and that alone makes it better than last year. And didn't they announce the EE last year?

It is idiocy. ScummVM is powerful and pirate versions of all LucasArts' classic titles are easily available. With GOG releases (not to mention with an expansion of their Steam catalog) LucasArts could convert these from worthless vault assets into money-generating titles, but instead the company has spent the last decade being run by extremely foolish, worthless people.

It'll fix itself eventually as the company discovers it can't actually extract any value from its asset as long as no one will actually pay their asking price.

Wasn't the head of LucasArts that was responsible for opening their catalogue to Steam fired or quit shortly after? If I recall, until recently the top spot has been sort of a revolving door at the company and that explains a lot of the problems they've had.

The company implements strategy, top brass replaced, implement completely different/new strategy, rinse repeat.

Yeah, Tim Schafer mentioned the same thing in his interview with Ron Gilbert.

Here's hoping for a better CEO/president/whatever the next time around!

I have tried NeverHood and it seems ok under Seven.

What I did.
Full CD install.
Color Fix Patch.
Launching the game with D3DOverrider to use recent version of DirectX.

Run ok, with no slowdown.

Okay. So I ran into some money recently and just purchased PoP: Sands of Time since I haven't played it since it came out and wanted to try it again. Funny thing is I can't have shadows on since it screws the graphics up. Anyone know how to fix that? (I've also forgotten how to do most of the moves lol)

Where's the news page on the new site, I can't find it, lol...

Edit: doh, I'm dumb, I thought that on the right just showed new releases as usual but it's the news posts.

The current head of Lucasarts flat out refuses to release anything without DRM, that's what's keeping it from GOG.

System Shock is being held by an insurance company who wants some exorbinant amount of money to release the rights, far more then GOG would make by selling it.

Kickstarter! :P

Btw, QfG 1 is in the top 100 now. Not bad for a vote-splintered series.

Time for an update to the list of games which are exclusive to GOG's store. Here's what used to be exclusive to GOG at the time of release, and has appeared elsewhere (bolded titles are just ones that have been recommended, like always):

What is the general consensus on Hordes of the Underdark? I've beaten Neverwinter Nights and Shadows of Undrentide and thought the stories sucked, but I still enjoy the D&D gameplay enough to have played through them.

HotU just seems to drop you at the entrance of a huge dungeon full of traps and higher level enemies after creating a level 15 character. Is the story worth it? Because I just created a level 15 shifter, and it isn't any fun at all playing a high-level character right from the start. I like to work my way from a weakling into a beast.
Baldur's Gate 2 eases you into high-level play in a fun way. HotU seems to be the opposite, I'm really not enjoying this much, but maybe it gets better?

So should I stick with it, or am I better off playing the other D&D games I've got that I haven't beaten? (Temple of Elemental Evil and NWN2 Platinum edition)

In my opinion HoTU had the best story of the three. Also because it raises the levelcap to 40, you have plenty of leveling and advancing to do. If you don't like playing a lvl 15 character, just create your character in another module as lvl 1 and import it later to HoTU. This way you can level from 1 to 40. There was a trick bypassing the forced leveling in the start but I can't quite remember how it went. Been few years since I've played it. IIRC it was easiest to bypass in a multiplayer game.

yeah, hordes of the underdark is the only OFFICIAL redeemable feature for nwn1 isn't it. as far as rpg story is concerned. but I also am not a fan of not starting from level 1 also. not sure why actually, as I don't really care that much about my characters. or their build

btw. anyone have any good custom mod suggestions for either nwn1 or nwn2? playing a fuck ton of old and not so old but still pretty old d&d pc games these days.

Anyone with a high knowledge of Anachronox? Can you tell me why in battle, when I attack with the gun I don't see this electric animation? I looked up a video, and saw that theres supposed to be an animation, but when I attack, I just see numbers.

Is the Guilty Gear port good? If its a good port, that shit should be bolded.

It's a port of the PS2 version for what it's worth. Bolding might be worthwhile if it was the version that could be fanpatched to include online but sadly it isn't.

I had never even heard of Return to Zork. Looks atrocious haha.

It's a crazy, off kilter adventure game with bizarre acting and some really surreal sets. It is also truly inspired in a great many ways, with a fantastic contextual menu for interactions that allows for much more flexibility than a traditional point and click interface, and is just an all around great adventure game.

Goddammit. Another wishlisted item.

From The Witcher 2 OT, as seen in Eurogamer:

CD Projekt Red will give away a "legendary" PC RPG for free on GOG.com this Thursday, 5th April, Eurogamer can reveal.

The giveaway coincides with CD Projekt's Spring Conference, which is being streamed live at 5pm GMT (presumably 6pm BST).

Note that giveaway has nothing to do with the "extraordinary" conference announcement CD Projekt has been teasing.

CD Projekt Red head of marketing Michal Platkow-Gilewski explained to Eurogamer: "No, there will be no announcement of a new game.

"But to give you some hints and not to spoil the surprise, CD Projekt RED and GOG.com have prepared something very special for all the PC fans of The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings, who already have the game, as well as for all those who will buy one any time in the future.

"It is something really unique," he added.

"More to come on the conference."

Legendary RPG ?

-FFVII pc version
-They struck deal with blizzard and they will release Diablo.
- Wasteland

Other than than there is no really any more games considered as legendary.

I can' see why would they fake that.

Gaf are there any rpgs considered legendary that aren't on GOG and wich i haven't name yet ?

Jesus fucking christ no. Return to Zork is an awful adventure game. It implements just about every horrendous game design concept that Sierra ever came up with, most notably the
"incorrectly use item on second screen of game, get fucked at the 80% mark" type, except in Zork I think it's the first screen. It has a pre-internet meme due to people not being able to make it past the 2nd or 3rd screen and having to listen to the actor say the same thing 1000X times.

To who asked: get Nemesis and Grand Inquisitor. They are good.

Witcher 1 makes the most sense, but that doesn't strike me as a particularly 'unique' move - I can think of quite a few games that bundled the original with the sequel at various times. Still, despite that, it's such a logical conclusion that it wouldn't surprise me.

I'd hope that people who own the first game on GoG would get some form of alternative freebie, at least. GoG have been variable on that in the past.
