Amazon to Netflix: Check.

Love Prime, and there is stuff on it that I would watch, but no apps or streaming on consoles makes me not use it as many have said. I could see it replacing netflix for me if they ever get it on consoles and such.

Sony's mystery addition to the PlayStation 3's streaming video service lineup is a mystery no more: it's Amazon Instant Video, the online retailer's collection of an estimated 100,000 movies and shows, as well as Prime Instant Video, the roughly 17,000 streaming items included along with a $79 Amazon Prime subscription. That includes recent infusions of content from Discovery, Viacom, ABC-Disney, and Fox. Sony tells us both services will be accessible from a native PS3 app, downloadable from your console's XMB menu, and should run similarly to Netflix or Hulu Plus in that regard. You won't be able to purchase content from Amazon using your PlayStation Store digital wallet, though.

The announcement may not be as exciting as a live TV service, but it's a major video service that the Xbox 360 doesn't have... unless you count the grueling process of downloading shows in advance on a Windows computer and streaming to your Xbox using Windows Media Center.

yep, cool. Just means more content that I get from both services. Not sure why anyone would take sides in this.

Man, that's not a grueling process at all its the number one way I watch stuff on my TV right now.

Hopefully Amazon brings back the cheap Prime upgrade for students so I can take advantage. Think it was like $40 a couple months ago, but I was broke :(

Does Amazon Prime stream TV shows like Netflix or like Hulu?

That is to say... do they have each new episode of a show the next day/week like Hulu or do they only put an entire season worth of episodes online at a time months after the season finishes like Netflix?

PS3 confirmed as the victor in the online video content streaming wars of videogame consoles.

Is there a reason to think it won't land on Xbox360 in due time? Service is on everything as is....I wouldn't expect them to not get on the MS gravy train as well.

Does such a war exist?

clearly it is a joke.

it is possible to remain an exclusive to PS3. Granted, there is nothing right now showing it won't come as it doesn't say it is exclusive. For what it is worth, I use my 360 for all my Hulu/Netflix needs until they decide to shit out from time to time, then I hop on my PS3. I own and buy every console. I don't give a fuck who has what or gets what service.

I think it's more like Netflix where they put up whole seasons. However, I think Amazon Prime right now has some pretty slim pickings compared to Netflix atm. They need to add more streaming content to their service.

Because I actually have a device that can use this damn service now. The fact that Netflix is on EVERYTHING is an excellent selling point, and now that I can use the Amazon service I'm already paying for with my Prime account on my PS3, I have no need for Netflix.

the "Instant" content that you pay-per-episode for is up within a day of the original airing, if you buy the season pass for a series still airing it automatically adds it to your library when it is available and bills your amazon account the $1.99 or $1.89 or whatever that ep is. Walking Dead started downloading to my HTPC about 30 minutes after it aired on Sunday nights....

Assuming they both provide the exact same content right? But they don't.

This is awesome. If all these features are available on the PS3 app, I'm killing my DirecTV account this fall.

Yep, they don't. I don't really care, though. Amazon is the superior service with the options for the instant streaming and a la carte purchasing.

Think it's time to bite the bullet and purchase a PS3 (I wonder ig that will make me a hardcore gamer too?).

Just to be sure, is HBO available on either Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon?

WOW! Really?

Cablevision, your days are numbered!

Netflix is just a little too integrated into too many things to switch right now. There's a lot of potential with Amazon Prime though

For a lot cheaper you could get a Roku box that has Netflix, Hulu, & Amazon on it.

HBO isn't on any of those, you need HBO Go for that.

Get it on my Xbox and bye bye Netflix.. heck.. it might be bye bye Netflix already.. kids are just used to the 360.. they'll figure it out.

I see. Yeah, I haven't really bought any content and I have just browsed the free streaming content available so far. That part I am disappointed in. I did see that there is a lot of content if you are willing to pay extra for it.

Now if Amazon would group TV shows into a single selection that allows season and episodes. That is one other thing that bugs me is When searching for a show you get each Season listed separately instead of lumped into 1 thing.

right. the "Prime" stuff is close in scale/quality/content to Netflix instant. but then you add pretty much everything else that is on TV or on DVD for rental at either $.99, $1.99, $2.99 (HD) or $3.99/$5.99 for the new release movies.

and really, the SD quality has been more than fine for me. HD is nice, but for 90% buying it in SD is no big downgrade. It is fullscreen, a little pixelated, but fine.
