GOG News and Updates 2012

I sincerely doubt they're going to give away a new RPG entry in their repertoire for free the day they get it, guys. It's probably something that's been on the service for a while now.

Some people like the GOG treatment applied, but in this case it would be better brought on with III or even IV released onto it, with I and II put on their in the same capacity as Ultima IV and other free games.

That was more me confirming what I thought I had heard. Having elder scrolls games on gog would be cool though. Last I heard II wasn't the easiest thing to get working so a gog release would be welcome.

there are versions of Daggerfall and Arena that are packaged with dosbox and work the same way as a GOG version would, sans soundtracks wallpapers etc.

Arcanum is on sale and it looks interesting. Thoughts?

A Big Mac from McDonalds is going to cost you more than Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura from GOG will, and only one of those will leave you feeling regret filled and hollow inside after you finish it. $3 is dirt cheap for a quality game like this and it is only on sale for a little while longer, do yourself a favor and pick it up.

It's somewhat of a spiritual successor to Fallout and one of the best cRPGs when talking about quest design and lore. Main issue is that combat is so dreadful it's borderline comedy, but you can fix that by setting the game on easy to try and "skip" it.

If you're into stuff like Planescape you'll enjoy it tremendously and 3 bucks is a steal.

Woohoo! WC4. Best of the series, imo.

I guess its the CD version and not the DVD release?

edit: "This version of Wing Commander™ 4: The Price of Freedom features DVD-quality cutscenes."

Double woohoo!

Hot fucking damn, Wing Commander 4. Got my copy soon as I could! And it comes with the awesome DVD quality cutscenes... oh lord...

(fun fact: WC4 cost $12 million to make. AAA before there was AAA, really.)

May I ask what you didn't like about it?

Horrid acting, bad dialogue, bad effects, no longer being able to name your character (that ones a minor nitpick), and couldn't stand the blocky polygons over the better hand drawn stuff from the first two games.

Hmm fair enough. I hate the sprites from WC1/2/Privateer 1 myself. They look... wrong when viewing from any angle other than front on. I haven't played WC4 for about 14 years now, so I'm hoping this isn't a case of me discovering that the movie part of the game sucks now that I'm older.

I'll soon find out, I guess.

Wow, WC4. I was not expecting something like this. I thought that maybe we might get another one of the already announced Indie titles and everyone would be complaining. DVD-quality cutscenes too... wow.

I sure hope they start releasing some of the earlier WC expansions soon.

Wing Commander 4! Yes!

I still have the boxed cd version with the manuals. It was the first Wing Commander that I played. I've actually been working my way back through the series. I just started 3. I'll be picking this up for sure.

I'm really happy about the WC4 release. I never had the chance to play the DVD version of the game, and it was so hard to come by anyway what with being bundled in with MPEG2 cards.

The game blew my mind when I was 11.

Legendary RPG ?

-FFVII pc version
-They struck deal with blizzard and they will release Diablo.
- Wasteland

Other than than there is no really any more games considered as legendary.

I can' see why would they fake that.

Gaf are there any rpgs considered legendary that aren't on GOG and wich i haven't name yet ?

FF VII would be great, but I'd like to play Ultima 7.

Honestly, I'd really be surprised if it were anything other than the Witcher 1. Which IS an amazing offer to get it for free, and a great way to promote the EE of Witcher 2 even for people planning to buy it on 360, but I already bought it for $5 so it's more of an advantage to anyone who doesn't already have it on GOG.

yeah, would be surprising if it's anything other than witcher1. my secret hope is a wizardry game. 7 or 8. but they're the only games I can think of right now also. lol

WC4 was the real AAAA. step aside microsoft

Crucial part is "legendary" As i love witcher 1 it's not legendary.

So it will probably be some other game.

Consider the perspective of who is calling it legendary. And to be honest, it probably IS the most acclaimed WRPG in recent years not from Bioware, Bethesda, or even Obsidian, and one of the only ones that's PC exclusive to boot.

How playable are the wing commander games? Easy to get into, or we talking archaic as fuck?

As easy as any arcade game really. You can play with a mouse & Keyboard but gamepad/joystick is the best option (though you will probably be using the keyboard for somethings as well)

I'm thinking of getting Wing Commander 4 but all the videos I've seen of it show janky gameplay. I can't tell if this is because of people's computers or if it's the game engine. Trying to figure this out before the X3 sale is over because I'll get that if WC4 isn't smooth.

Here's a video of the game recorded at a decent framerate if that helps (@ 5:00, though no guarantees how it will actually run). I haven't touched the WC games since release, so I can't comment on them much unfortunately.

I own both Witcher 2 and 1 on GOG, so I hope they don't give away the original game for free. But they will probably do that.

I own a boxed copy of Witcher...I really hope they don't give the original away for free...at least since you own it on GoG, they'll probably offer an alternative..
