Game Informer May 2012 Cover revealed: Halo 4

Game Informer covers literally NEVER measure up to the hype that they're given by the staff on Twitter. They invariably end up being a dudebro shooter or sequel to a mainstream, established franchise.

Fucking yawn.

Being that the "hype" was for the actual screens, not the cover, I'd say we don't know yet.

Oh, and if you dislike these shooters why come in the thread? That bored?

Nice! All I want is sprinting in Halo 4, but really, just take out armor lock and I'll be happy. :)

Hopefully I can clear out my backlog before Halo 4 launches so I can focus solely on it.

Still, the amount of ignorance and trolling in this thread is typical for a Halo related thread. Highly doubt we'd have such rubbish if the game was the Last of Us again or any other exclusive for that matter.

Indeed. And by the same people, too.

I always find it odd how some say Halo is generic, while others call for it to play and look more like the sea of modern warfare roller-coaster style shooters we have today.

Frankly I'd rather see Halo 4 focus more on having large otherworldly locations, sandboxy play spaces, great combat and engaging enemy AI rather than taking the route of most other shooters these days.

It'll probably be the default gun once again. Ugh. I really hope Halo gets out of the 90's and allows us to hold LT to look down the sights.

Edit: And sprint that's always there.

The first Halo game to implement look down sights will be the first one I don't buy. Think through the implications of such a mechanic to Halo's gameplay. It would stop being Halo.

I was ready to let the series go after the last games, felt so tapped out. Then I read Cryptum and Primordium and whoa... they are the best gaming spinoff books I've ever seen. Hype maximum if they incorporate that stuff.

GI Keeps teasing! :P

I'd use the word 'nonsense', but that feels be an understatement.

To be fair, as just a PC gamer at the time, I used to think so as well - and then I actually played it.

You shouldn't critique a game before you've even played it - that's nonsense. Shame on you.

To be fair, it sounds like by the time he finally played it he had likely already played other games which had been influenced by it, which would make it seem more generic than it was in its day.

I wish I had a nickle for every time I've heard someone say "So after years of hearing about how awesome _________ is, I finally checked it out for myself the other day. Gotta say, I don't see why everyone think it's such a big deal." I'd have a bunch of nickles.

The Xbox didn't have a very long life cycle, so Halo was only around a couple of years before I got around to playing it. Regardless, I played a lot of Quake and Unreal Tournament beforehand, and Halo just reminded me of those games, but with all the personality sapped out of them.

The day they do that is the day I'm out.

ADS in Halo? Leave, leave now and never come back.

Thats like saying Counter Stike needs ADS for every gun.

There's no reason to hold LT to aim.

Lol, good one, guy.

I can't even

I cannot

Go play BF.

If you want ADS in Halo, you don't like Halo.

I warned you bro. :(

ADS In halo is taboo. I personally think it's stupid that it doesn't have it, but rabid halo fans would commit genocide if it happened.

How exactly would it stop being halo? Or is this some reverse troll?

Right, and when games like Dishonored are getting revealed via cover no one give a damn and everyone cries "where is my sequel!" GI can't win, right?

I gave a damn :(

Some of my favorite more recent covers have been that, South Park and the proper XCom game.

Have always been completely baffled over the popularity of the Halo franchise...
Mind you, I never played 2, 3 or Reach, so maybe the series got better?
I played a lot of Quake and Unreal Tournament beforehand, and Halo just reminded me of those games, but with all the personality sapped out of them.
You're such a joke.
I just want the ability to look down the sights. I feel it's time for that change.
Different franchise exist for a reason...it's so that you can play them if they have the features you want.

I like Halo, I just want the ability to go into cover and become a 3rd person shooter. I feel it's time for that change.
I like Halo, I just want dialogue wheels to converse with NPC and have RPG elements. I feel it's time for that change.
I like Halo, I just want want a purely graphics focused game with smaller tight nit battles, and no vehicles in the sandbox. I feel it's time for that change.

It's like why not just play the game with those damn features. Iron sights are so damn idiotic. What's the point of a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER when you need to go into a more FIRST PERSON-ER MODE to actually SHOOT.

fuck it. give me news GI bastards.

Also now I get it.
I so muc hwant forerunner stuff that I forget how much 343i wants to recapture Halo'haloness.

The Chief, Cortana, Space, danger, mystery...it's all on the cover of GI. Good job.

Now give me a forerunner skin for campaign, a forerunner only MP mode and a Didact SP DLC and I'll suck your balls while my girl prepares mojitos for you all.
Guessing we will see how the armor system works and probably have an explanation on the MP red vs blue story.

New MP mode or bust.
SP taken to new heights. Open world feel...

Yep, don't like Halo. Not at all.

Yea, careful with the Halo nuts over on HaloGaf; change is not a word they want to hear in relation to the game (I happen to agree with them this time).

I love posts like this from people who can't understand why things are popular. Is it really that hard to understand? You may not like the fact that it has lots of fans, but I find it incredibly hard to believe you can't fathom how it could possibly be popular.

You would be surprised.

Halo is (partially) about fluid, dynamic movement. ADS fucks that up entirely. Bad idea.

How exactly would it stop being halo? Or is this some reverse troll?

You're a game designer in training, it seems.

'Having ADS in Halo wouldn't change a thing, obviously!'

You already have ADS on precision weapons, its called a 2x scope.

Regardless, I played a lot of Quake and Unreal Tournament beforehand, and Halo just reminded me of those games, but with all the personality sapped out of them.

I was willing to cut you some slack, but you indeed are crazy. Halo plays nothing like either of those games. Well, it's in the first-person perspective and you shoot some weapons at other guys so I suppose that's something...

Why in the goddamn fuck is there so much negativity in here? I don't even know what most of you are complaining about. You, in fact, have not see basically any campaign footage, and very little MP footage. It is by a completely different developer, so I find it odd that some of you would say "just another Halo" or whatever. It was very obviously Halo 4 on the cover from what's been hinted. Last month we got AC3, and it seriously seems like the exact same people complain. I am not interested in The Last Guardian, but that doesn't mean if GI does a cover on it I will simply post "lame" or whatever. I know it's a big-deal game and would be very excited to read the cover story. This constant negativity of these GI covers from the exact same offenders is borderline trolling in my eyes.

It's funny how people can have such wildly different reactions to the same information.

HOLY SHIT, YES, SO EXCITED FOR THIS GAME.

"Game Informer May 2012 Cover revealed: Halo 4 Reply to Thread"
HOLY SHIT, YES, TIME TO TROLL.

Edit : I want to clarify and say that not all critics are trolls. By all means, don't like Halo, but it'd be nice if you offered an actual critique.

This guy gets it.

I'd rather not be nerfed to make the game more "realistic", thank you. Honestly: Can you imagine going through Tsavo Highway on foot and having ADS? *shudders*

Why not? It makes sense that there would be ADS, fuck "realistic" most weapons in halo have a scope anyway so what's the problem?

You don't say. It reminded me of Marathon more than anything else (which predates Quake and UT,) but that's just me.
