The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

the 80's.

Yeah capturing quality hasn't been the greatest. I want my sharp HD vids back!!

the game runs in a lower resolution, maybe its even lower in splitscreen. it didnt look as bad/low-res to me when i played it.

The game and themselves are interlaced (Their new TVs are 1080, so they might be running 1080i through component as opposed to 720p, since we all know HDCP prevents easy video capture) and they are not well lit at all, at least not in the video, don't know about the actual place where they quicklook Kinect games, which would explain the Kinect losing them quite a bit. Or maybe not.

Anyway, they either need to deinterlace their videos (which will take forever, because just merging the fields together is UNACCEPTABLE) or go back to capturing in 720p (which makes more sense).

Also, they're badly framed (at least on the start of the video). You can clearly see a black bar on (our) right and below them. That's probably framing taking overscan into consideration (even though there shouldn't be such a thing as overscan anymore). It also seems like their video is not simply superimposed on the gameplay, it looks like somebody edited a video of them running on a greenscreen with a fourth of the gameplay behind them, rendered it fullscreen and tried to overlay the video properly on the final video, but the end result was not good at all. You can see that the background of where they're playing is misaligned and a couple frames time shifted with the remaining of the video area.

But hey, if you need to figure shit out, Star Wars Kinect is not a bad place to do it. :D

They need to find a more suitable location for Kinect QL's, because it seems like the quality of their experience is suffering right now. Hopefully in time...

Hopefully they recorded these at the same time, as it had the same issues as the SW vid. It doesn't really explain the horribly interlaced video, though.

I just tried the Diabolical Pitch demo and the Kinect recognized at most 50% of my motions. I don't think it was Brad's fault.

My Kinect has now been banished to the closet.

Sweet.

All we need now is the promised Xenoblade quicklook, and i'm set.

We never got that MGS 3 3DS edition quicklook that was promised before GDC/merger. I think they (everyone) totally forgot about it. I was really looking forward to seeing them rip apart the technical jank of the game.

Edit: Anyone else get the vibe that perhaps diabolical pitch is made up of unused assets from Shadows of the Damned?

They definitely need their own green screen/set/control room built to their specifications. They also need Vinny to oversee that process to make sure everything is to his liking, so, yeah. It'll probably take even longer than they anticipate to get fully up to speed, nice that they at least have some options available until then.

Not sure how they're going to get by with Drew on vacation/Vinny on baby duty, though. Quick Look TXT's?

Put Jeff in the control room and see if he can figure it out. For better or worse I bet that'd be really entertaining.

Xenoblade Quicklook today :D! HYPE!!

30fps or 60fps?

It looks good but way too cluttery in battles, like why did they make those numbers so big?

Nah I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with resolution. It's clearly a design choice. Example: FFXII did numbers much smoother and with less clutter.

I guess, from my point of view, zero punishment for death is not handling death exceptionally well. I guess long load times or simply getting bumped back to the title screen isn't handling death well either but I personally like having something on the line. Not a big deal, the game still looks really interesting.

The text font is also rather large.
The QL also demonstrated the biggest problem I had. Everytime I died, I'm never really sure what I did wrong. Combat is a bit mindless and really level oriented vs skill.

I've tried to understand the hype for Xenoblade repeatably, but I just don't get it.

It doesn't look that nice to me from an artstyle and graphics standpoint with jaggies galore, and the voice acting seems pretty embarrassingly cheesy.

What makes this game so special? I want to like this game since I've been waiting for a good JRPG this entire generation, but I just don't think this is it. Are we that starved for a decent one?
