Nintendo of the 90's actually. Back when they knew how to advertise.
Don't say that to any Earthbound fans

It kind of reminded me of the N64 age yeah.
Aren't Wii load times improved when playing on a hard drive? And wouldn't the difference between HDD speed and disc drive speed have to be pretty significant before something like a regular game/DLC speed distinction was noticed? Since DLC is extra content anyway, it's going to be loading parts from the disc and the other storage medium at the same time; so couldn't it be quicker even if the external drive loads more slowly?TheExplodingHead said:Problem isn't HDD installs as it pertains to USB2.0, where installs are opted for increased speeds and faster loading. The problem lies with USB2.0 being slower than the stock DVD-Rom (reading/loading), so DD/DLC/patches/VC/WiiUWare would be a bit slower than the stock DVD. This creates issues when said DLC is supposed to run in tandem with a retail disk, creating a slow-to-fast situation where loading is concerned.
And USB2.0 IS as slow as people think. Go try to load a 360 ISO off of a JTAG 360 off a USB2.0 HDD and see how the loading times are 3x as long as they would be on the DVD-drive or internal HDD.
Is it known that WiiU will have USB 2.0? What about HDMI? I guess that will be 1.4. And what about sound, will it support Dolby TrueHD etc.?
Compatible cables include HDMI, component, S-video and composite
Six-channel PCM linear output through HDMI
Four USB 2.0 connector slots are included.
This is awesome. Hopefully this is the direction they'll be taking with marketing for the Wii U.

Not sure if this was posted, and really off topic, but anyone seen the awesome viral 3DS video?
Remember last week's rumor of a major racing title heading to Wii U? That fits in ever so nicely with a rumor from reader Stefan. While I'm not usually one to go with the 'I know a guy' stories as a source, this one sounded plausible to me. It all has to do with Stefan's dad being an company that produces advertisements.
- The filming took place in Germany
- the promo trailer included Sebastian Vettel in his F1 car
- Mr. Vettel also did filming inside a room littered with multiple tiny lights
- Mr. Vettel was told to act like he was driving while holding a Wii U controller
- Mr. Vettel wasn't actually playing a game, but was being filmed as if he were playing
Could be a promo for that rumored racing game, could be a 'concept' trailer, much like the one we saw for the Wiimote when first announced. Either way, I'm expecting this promo to be a part of E3!
The thing is, I could see them trying to bring one or two different IPs back from retirement for each generation going into the future.
Maybe now that the Icarian experiment is done and successful, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see them announce a huge, gigantic, epic, scrumtrulescent, new console entry to the series.
(ps: where did avatars go?)
Is this old? This is a rumour from that site you Go to for nintendo news.

ThanksYes E3 page says 4 2.0 USB ports. Actually, lookie here yourself.
After the absolute joy that is Kid Icarus: Uprising I'd be perfectly content for them to just focus on a Wii U version.

A F1 trailer with Vettel has very limited appeal, doesn't it? Do Americans even know him?
Still, it does sound very plausible. Perhaps it's for a teaser by Codemasters who work on F1 for WiiU?

How many athletes are there that they could hire that everyone in the world knows ? Maybe Usain Bolt ?
That aside the F1 steering wheel kinda looks like a uPad so it kinda makes sense to get a F1 driver and it would make even more sense if the rumor from a few days ago is true that Nintendo is working on a racing game.
Edit:
Vettel is youngest world champion of all time and back to back champion, he's pretty famous in the world, the exception being America.
Right so its now looking pretty certain that Nintendo have low balled the specs too aggressively again!! Nintendo doesn't need to worry too much about Microsoft and Sony. But they need to worry about Apple. With the pace in which the iPad is developing, in two generations it will out muscle the Wii U. You can already hook up the iPad to a HDTV and Apple is rumoured to have finished developing a controller. That and the fact that iOS games are far cheaper and are becoming more graphically advanced means they are a big threat.
With the 5 years it takes to design a console, it cant be that difficult to make a machine that's affordable and yet competitive in terms of technology. A Mac Mini is not much bigger than the Wii U and that's using off shelf parts. Nintendo is using custom embedded parts and manufacturing at very high volumes which keeps costs down.

"Wii would like to play" was the best marketing thing ever.

You don't know how powerful WiiU is, let alone what Ipad will be in two generations. What an utterly silly conclusion that is to come too based on no facts at all.
I just hope the 4 3DS buddies are retired.
It's based on all the available information and speculation from leaked developer comments. There's no smoke without fire, if the machine was a beast we would know by now.
As for the iPad every revision thus far has followed a few constants. We do know the iPad gets more powerful graphically every generation. EA (who are close to Apple) have even said the iPad will rival consoles very soon.

You can get a Mac Mini with a ATI graphics card. The dual core i5 chip in the regular Mini is more than powerful enough to run most games.Wanna know why the MAC Mini costs just $599?
It uses INTEL HD Graphics. That is the integrated graphic chip in the core i5 its using... It has no dedicated GPU!
That wont run any games from the last 5-6 years... At least not properly.
The bigger one with a dedicated GPU costs 799 and uses a SLOW 6630. This runs games but its still slow...
The "fastest" MAC Mini für $999 with the i7 again has NO GPU and uses the intel integrated graphics... Wich wont run games from the last years..
See the problem here?
What does that have to do with the Wii U?Go check the recent Orbis/PS4 rumour and say that again.
Holy smokes! Imagine having all the buttons and switches on the Upad and they would even work! like a "PRO mode" for the game. The ultimate F1 simulator!

Hasn't he been winning everything for the last 2years or something? He's like the new Schumacher, if you're into Racing especially F1, you can't not know him.
I think, not into racing at all. A new Extreme G would be sweet though, liked that back in the day.
Edit: ElTopo, why would they hire Usain Bolt to promote a F1 gameOkay we don't know what game it is I guess.
From what we know now, based on all available information and the leaked specs (either tri or quad core PPC plus Radeon 770). We have a good idea of where the Wii U is heading power wise.Knowing if its "a beast" or not according to some annoymous source doesn't tell you anything specific enough to use in such a comparison.. The fact is you don't know how powerful it is specifically, so how can you come to a conclusion of how powerful it will be compared to something that's two generations down the line?, its absurd.
Do you even know how powerful Ipad is now? How many shaders has it got, how powerful is the CPU in comparison to current console CPU's ect?

Besides you completely missed the point. A Mac Mini uses off the shelf PC parts. A games console is an embedded device with a complete custom design and custom parts. Thus you you can make saving from removing stuff you don't need and also from volume manufacturing. Nintendo also own the designs, so they wont buy chips from ATI but licence a design instead.

You can play. . . you can play Wii Sports on the iPad? You can have a Just Dance party with the iPad? You can stream movies to your flat-screen TV on the iPad with a remote-like device for about $300? You can give the kids Mario Kart, 4 controllers, and forget about them for the rest of the day? Oh, wait. . . you can't?!? And that's never going to happen!?! :-!
Look, the iPad and consoles are two completely different products in the minds of consumers with two completely different usage cases. It's like saying the PC is going to replace consoles any time soon, or the Wii U (with its tablet and likely lower price) could replace an iPad. It's ridiculous speculation that's based on fantasy, a misunderstanding of the market, and wild speculation. And in all likelihood, Nintendo's customer would just have both.

Without force feedback? No please..
As much as i would like a racing game on Wii u, i hope they support some wheels..
I'm just surprised Microsoft is going this route. 360 exploded because Kinect was available on a console with a truly mass market price. If they think Kinect 2.0 is going to drive sales of a $399 machine, they might be in for a rude awakening.
I think Sony would be wise to flip the tables on them and spec closer to Wii U; making 720 the most expensive option on the market and the most costly to develop for.

Yes Mac Mini comes with an i5 and Radeon 6630 mobile. And you can run modern games on it. Its also sold at a premium - you can get a more powerful PC for less. Are you kidding me? Intel HD Gaphics 3000 dosent run anything. And thats already for the magical 599 us dollar!
Yes, you can get a Radeon 6630. I have a 6670, that card is the same as 6630, just a little more juice. Its not that fast! and that mac costs $799!
WiiU may cost between 300 to 349$ maximum... And you are comparing it to a $799 MAC Mini... Thats more than DOUBLE the price... (Forget the $599. It wont be enough to run games. Intel HD graphics isnt suited for games.)

You need to understand I only used the Mac Mini as comparison with regards to having a small case, and running pretty quiet & cool. But like I said before and I repeat because game consoles are completely custom and extremely optimized - you should be able to get more power in an affordable solution.
Nintendo just does gaming. .
It could be a very bid deal in europe but Vettel is just too expensive, imo. His calendar in europe till the next race in china is too tight.A F1 trailer with Vettel has very limited appeal, doesn't it? Do Americans even know him?
Still, it does sound very plausible. Perhaps it's for a teaser by Codemasters who work on F1 for WiiU?

The 770 is the GPU used in the HD4870 which is similar to what is rumoured to be in the Wii U. And also I don't have time to posting specs for what is widely available on the internet. Just Google the iPad Gen 3 GPU. Its quite beefy for a mobile device. What do you mean Radeon 770??
Right, maybe it would help if you laid out your argument. Show some specs and numbers for Ipad 1 then for Ipad 2 and project that on to Ipad 3 and 4. Then put down these "leaked specs" for WiiU you've mentioned for comparison.
Without that its pointless argument. I mean you're yet to show that you even know how powerful Ipad2 is, if you don't know that and your info on WiiU is based on some vague comments then the whole comparison is crazy.
