Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

Status
Not open for further replies.
A short summary is enough, like: the patch contains new textures for bla bla (picture). And I think we should wait for the OT or really important game news like release, open beta date to create different theme threads for Dota 2, cyborgmatts blog should be enough for now for the programming information stuff.

Maybe it's time for a thread split? One for talk about the game changes and the like. The other being for community conversations?

Not really needed, can easily do both in this thread. Just don't need people posting entire files when they can just mention the important changes and link to a pastebin of the entire thing.

what a difference a decent team makes. I run into a decent group of guys and team up with them for 3 games. the result?

I go a combined 30/3/28 over 3 games in moderately close play (before we put the hammer down late).

Yea, I may never solo pub again. lol.

Oh a side note: why is Drow so disliked in higher tier play? I ask because I feel like her level 4 silence is OP against opponents who need to use their skills. 6 seconds of silence is just...win. especially with her late game dps and frost arrows. with that silence, a mkb, hyperstone and a dadelus/butterfly, she gives no fucks at all. fuck your skills, you won't get to cast again until you respawn. fuck your bkb, my dps without frost arrows is more than enough to win. fuck your life, you die.

I keep hearing Drow is a bad carry, but I'm just not seeing it.

She's easily gankable early game and has no escape mechanism. In pubs this is less of an issue because the level of coordination is much lower than competitive games. She can work in certain team comps, most notably aura strats, but otherwise there are better, and safer, carries.

Drow has no escape, same reason why Sniper sucks because both are squishy heroes who are easy to gank and cc.

Edit, why did I even post this, even Archie understands. What we need is more chav talk and code being posted.

Honestly, with all the comments, I find it hard to believe that GAF guys do anything with Sniper besides making him stand completely still inside of a creep wave. In my mind, all GAF battles consist of two dudes just standing right next to each other until one dies and the other is at like 10 health. :P

It's pretty hard to get ganked if you see it coming ahead of time and respond accordingly. Also, you never stand still as a squishy. Ever. It is all about map awareness, positioning, and mobility.

What we really need is a salt filter

I just have a hard time finding joy from a hero with nearly zero utility. He is so boring =/

Yep, it's pub. The first time I played Sven we had AA and Bane in our team, who were refused to do what supports should do. They claimed, that it's my job as Sven, since it's me who IS support, and the're 'killers'. In the end, me and Pudge had to buy couriers, wards, dust, etc. That's the only match when I was really mad about my teammates.

Had a game with Enchantress and Omni. Had to buy courier and upgrade as Drow. Would have had to buy wards too but I'm in beginner tier so it wasn't really necessary (and because I'm bad).

Pubs man.

I've been asked to play LoL a few times since I've been in DotA 2, and I just can't play it. Everything moves in slow motion. It's so basic and slow. I don't think I could ever enjoy it with DotA 2 around.

Yeah, I played LoL recently and the game is so stale now. It feels like an eternity crossing the map, the fights are pretty drab and uninspired... I don't know, I'm really digging everything about Dota 2.

Even if you don't die a thousand times you're still not able to carry effectively, one game i had at least 200 more gpm than every hero in the opposite team and i almost never died but we still lost (and no, except one really bad decision our team wasn't completely trash) and i'm 100% sure that if i had the same kind of farm with almost any other carry (even Juggernaut) i would've been able to win the game.

I'm none too fond of this. TF2 unusual effects are obnoxious enough. I really don't want to see glowing Juggernaut swords.

I'm in the mindset that so long as Valve keeps the effects and cosmetics to the style of the game and not overly complicated, I won't mind it.

I just don't want to see gas masks and swat armor on Puck, or Maracas that cry tears of blood instead of blades on Anti-Mage.

On a tangent, I would likely be less inclined to fill the pages full of somewhat dry text dumps of new files if you guys didn't keep purposely talking in idiotic internet short hand. It isn't funny or amusing, not even on the satire level, and is likely toxic to trying to foster a community since it will easily push away a good number of people interested in participating.

Yeah.. it's really fucking annoying tbh.

I'm in favor of a thread split as well.

I'm having fun either way, but as I said before, Hongaf should drop their Hongaf manneurism for now. It's fine to have such a thing once the community is fully established well after the game is released, with very few newcomers bumping in now and then. But when beta invites are constantly being given out still and there's obviously alot more people in DotA2 Gaf that there was in HoNGAF, the attitude (which, quite frankly, has taken a turn for the worst in the last 10 pages or so) can be annoying real fast. I can definitively see with it would push people out of a community who wants to build itself ; and we don't want that! We want it to grow into a fun place for all, not just some people who like trashtalk, thugspeak and umadness.

Though Drkirby really should have used pastebin or a simple link to elsewhere. That is true. But that doesn't make it so you guys are justified in whatever attitude you are adopting.

Both parties are wrong.

I'm pretty sure Drkirby's intention wasn't to be annoying or to troll, which is the biggest difference in their behaviors and I don't see any reason why he wouldn't comply to the requests of using pastebin if people asked him in a civil manner (and some people did).

Pretty much sums it all. Though I don't see what's so bad about HoN-gaf. Sure the rage between DotA vs HoN a couple of pages ago was bad but besides that things seem pretty tame.

I'm not too fond of mannerisms that come straight from TotallyRad (dumpstered, shitblasted, etc), but it has been adapted by the entire HoN community ever since KingRaven made it popular.

In Dota 2 tho, not so much.

lol KingRaven. I met that guy in the HoN beta a few times and what a fucking tool. Even when winning he would bitch and moan and groan. Ive probably played with him maybe 15-20 times but after the 3rd time he was on perma-squelch, making my games so much more enjoyable. What's funny is this behavior was just made worse when he started appearing on streams, and would take his attitude to the forums where, since he was a *star*, people backed him up.

People who act like that idiot need to seriously grow up. I even had words with BulbA on reddit about his attitude and this summoned so many white knights I am surprised he even got a chance to read my comments before they were downvoted to hell. Seems to have worked though, as I have noticed a serious lack of shittalking from him lately.

But, back on topic. This whole "Hongaf vs Dotagaf" thing is just kind of confusing. Play your damn games and be quiet about it.

I hear you, I hope that part of the HoN community never makes the change over to DOTA 2 in any significant way.

I still run into KR every 40 games or so :|. Its a joy to play against him though.

What are you talking about bro. There's been no Hongaf vs Dotagaf arguments in the passed 250~ posts. How is that on topic?

And humongous thumbs down to thread split.

So lets be clear, your saying its hard to be ganked if you see it coming, what a moot point.

And your other points about never standing still, having map awareness, positioning your self correctly is all well and dandy but your failing to see what good teams/players can do to counter that. I will list a few:-

Smoke ganks
Picking heroes with good mobility QoP, Natures Prophet, Stormspirit etc
Heroes that can buy blinks to CC or kill like Tiny/Shadow Shaman/Beastmaster etc

I'm not saying its 100% but its not worth banking so much on carry's like Drow/Sniper. Too risky. Now for pub stomping sure why not.

And this constant HoNGaf/DotaGaf thing, you know what, screw y'all, DemiGaf 'til I die!

Most of the stuff associated with HoN GAF is just jokes, wouldn't take it seriously. Personally I don't really care if Kirby posts his data mining, whatever floats his boat, however at least let us have our fun making fun of people that post misinformation / wrong opinions, which for some reason is rampant with this game. I mean things like this:
The big thing is that she needs levels more then most other carries. Most carries need money the most, while Drow really needs the XP more then anything.

Are just so out of this world annoying to read all the time.

It is a tangent for me, because I haven't posted anything acknowledging your idiotic ramblings in the past few days after I initially asked why you are doing some fake Evil Genius Clan and never got a response, and have simply talked about the actual game and not fill the pages with dumb smack talk with little to no context no one outside of a small group could care about.

See, normally I am talking about things that are meaningful about the game, and you guys just doing smack talk, the two rarely crossing. Now they are meeting, since you guys are telling me not to post text dumps of files, and now I am inclined to tell you guys to not post like idiots. Thus, a tangent.
yo kid bro grow up, wacciaduing. srsly.

I think you should follow what someone said//
You're better off talking to walls. Their sarcasmzzzidioticramblings is only going to keep on going when you give them attention.

and don't use terms like "tangent", too complicated for some people here.

Relying on them as the sole carry? Yeah, not the best of ideas, but the idea that they are completely useless whatsoever is not true at all. In fact, I still don't really consider Sniper to be much of a carry at all. He is not going to win a game for a team, by any means. Still, when given just a single competent partner to work with in mid to late game, he is such a devastating force. His damage output just makes team battles go so smoothly and buildings crumble. His ability to either focus down a single enemy quickly or erode the health of the entire team makes him so fun for me. Get that Mjolnir and Devastator (more commonly known as the Desolator), son.

Still, I wouldn't say he is some ultimate badass, especially in the wrong hands where he is weak and not a forced to be reckoned with at all.

Of course, my love for Sniper is slowly being suctioned off by my new fondness for Leshrac, another terrific pusher with the added benefit of being an AoE fighter.

Also, Swag mad. :P Its not wrong opinions, for I am teh bestest. (In this particular case, bestest actually means worstest and I am a terrible player.)

Never realized just how well modeled huskar is, his texture work is crazy good.

So gyro has to be soon right? They put in his subtitles.

The last time they did that lycan was released the patch after, same case with syllabear.

Not that I care for gyro, just seems like people are brushing that aside in favor of brew.

also I like picking sniper as a complimentary character. I think he's excellent with faceless void. MoM sniper + FV, 2good.

Was Huskar's always that big? (I mean Dota 1) I feel his model is too big compared to other heroes who should be bigger but are tiny, like Ursa.

I had a Leshrac not use edict or his ult during the whole game. The guy must've been trolling cause we even told him and he said "yeah too bad I don't use my ult very often". The rest of us were not happy.

Yo Sanjay's not a bad Lesh. He's not great but he hits his stuns, stop-cancels and does use edict. He does pick contrarian item builds on purpose but they aren't universally terrible.

I think the thread can easily take a turn for the worse if people don't act more mature and start relating a little bit better with everyone else. It's a community thread were people will post but most will never actually play with each other in-game (whether willingly or by chance in MMs or IHs). The game is competitive and hardcore, and the community just followed suit. Without knowing each other's personalities it's easy to confuse trash talking, friendly ribbing, sarcasm, bad advice, and general rudeness with each other. Like with any large group on GAF, you can just choose to spend your time playing and interacting with posters you're compatible with, skill or personality-wise.

In the last eleven weeks we've gotten five heroes. Valve time!

So the speculations of this game launching for the next International seem pretty unlikely unless they launch with an incomplete roster.

I'd rather they keep releasing heroes at this pace or even slower. My head is spinning enough from learning what every hero does on the current roster.

Yo, shadowblade picks are awesome. Really lets you know what kind of a team you will be dealing with. A pro team. :P

Not sure which hero I should move to after Leshrac. I'm kind of thinking Shadow Shaman, but I'm not too sure about that.

What are you talking about bro. There's been no Hongaf vs Dotagaf arguments in the passed 250~ posts. How is that on topic?
I think he's talking about the divide inside DOTAGAF.

There's HoNGAF, DOTAVetGAF and then DOTANewbieGAF.

The first two groups have their own thing, with their own lingo and generally play with each other. The last group is similar except without the HoN vernacular. The groups are pretty distinct, and there's obviously tension between them.

As for threadsplitting I am generally opposed to it, but as things are the thread is pretty much two communities that just happen to talk about the same stuff jammed into one.
