Same here. No bullshit. Full pro-consumer.

No any DRM
No always online client
Rich content for every game.
Good support
If they screw something they refund or will give free games.
No geo-ip and this stupid bullshit with 9.99dol/euro
They try to make games work on new PCs.
Awasome community for every game.
Good UI of site.
+
Actively collects the petition of the community to guide and gain leverage for their efforts to acquire new games from license-limbo
Actively works with community to solve problems/help install common mods(!)
Occasional giveaways of kickass games

The Witcher 2 backup copy giveaway is a perfect example of their dedication. They realized that a lot of people may have gotten a deal elsewhere yet through the game come to appreciate their principles, so they decided to give them a free escape out of whatever DRM-jail they initially bought into for the game, and enhanced it on top!

No suggestions right now as I haven't picked it up yet, but a space kitten dies every time Doom is played without zdoom, so give it a shot next time around! :)

Zdoom is great. I played through all the Zdoom compatible games in the id superpack a few months back and they hold up amazingly well. They feel incredible at 120 fps.
It's a shame that there's no Blood source port. The Zdoom version changes too many things.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. While GZDoom (ZDoom, but with OpenGL!) is my source port of choice, I can see the logic behind using something like PrBoom+ or Chocolate Doom, too. The former is even more authentic to the original EXE without the pesky limitations it has (meaning it can play demos recorded on doom2.exe, which ZDoom flat-out refuses to even try), while the latter is about as close to the original EXE as you can get without using the original EXE.

Played some theme hospital and there is this strange mouse lag. I've had this in dosbox before and it's been easy for me to fix. Had it with ultimate doom a week or so ago and all I had to do was mess with some of the dosbox config files. I can't figure out how to quite do this on the gog release. Any suggestions?

is the 'enhance pointer precision' in your windows mouse properties unticked? not sure how, but this seems to re-enable itself sometimes on my windows. and I'm pretty sure it's what has fucked with my mouse in dosbox games sometimes.

Theme Hospital update is awesome, can't wait to play it again! :D
Does anyone know if it's possible that Carmageddon II will be released on GOG sometime in the future?
could happen. stainless said in an interview they're not too concerned about carmageddon/splatpak/carmageddon2, and they mentioned something about piracy. they're ok with people pirating to get ahold of these, or something like this. and they didn't seem to interested in making any kind of effort to get the games rerelased, but if gog handled it for them. well. let them know you want it on gog, maybe-- www.carmageddon.com

they own everything carmageddon. even the terrible third game.

Those are good points, can't argue that. ZDoom worked so great for me I have to recommend it over the native DOS versions from time to time as it gives me widescreen, 1200p, native steam support (it can find the games from Steam's default folder without needing to configure anything), mouselook and more, while retaining the great music from the original and sprite looks. I tried another one that made the sprites 3D a while ago and I hated that.

Hell yes Theme Hospital! Been waiting for this one. The music is working in this too, right? I've tried running it in dosbox before but I could never get the midi emulation settings right. Also had no idea this had a multiplayer mode. May have to try it out.

Don't think it has the Steam folder support - you'd have to copy the WADs over manually - but I'm fairly certain PrBoom+ has all that.

Still, I generally prefer to use ZDoom just because of how friggin' moddable it is. Authenticity is swell and all, but I like how few limits ZDoom actually imposes on you, when it comes down to it. Slopes, polyobjects, scripting, DECORATE, the lot. It'll even have 3D floor-over-floors whenever they roll out the next version - it's already in the SVN trunk IIRC.

Also, when you die, ZDoom automatically loads your last save instead of restarting the level, forcing you to manually load it. That's minor, but appreciated, particularly on some of the harder stages. I was trying a really difficult speedmapping MegaWAD a few weeks ago in PrBoom+, and having to manually reload my save every death got kind of annoying.

Ugh, I know what you mean. Not that Doom's enemies weren't cartoony to begin with, but the fanmade models tend to just exaggerate that considerably.

How do I do this? Do I have to register via the startup splash screen or can I do it directly through GOG?

And there it was. That fixed it. I didn't even check that because I'm sure I turned it off before. Yeah I guess it likes to turn back on. Thanks!

Damn, I just lost 4 hours to Theme Hospital in what felt like a blink of an eye. It's as addictive as ever, and plays a thousand times better with the mouse than it did on the PS1 where I originally played it (I know, I know...).

Anyway, back to my hospital to fight off this puking virus with all the mops I can throw at it.

Nox was pretty good right? I remember playing the demo long ago...around the first time I played Diablo 1. Seemed cool back then, but I dont really remember that much about it.

I guess I'll try here as well...

Anyone know a working link for the Fallout unofficial 1.3.5 patch? The NMA link doesn't work.

Sure, here you go. It says 1.3.3 in the readme for some reason, but it's the 1.3.5 download files, I checked a few other places, and it's the same way in the readme.

All these releases will work perfectly fine on 64 bit Windows 7 right? :D I really want to play Theme Hospital again.

Pretty much, anything DOS is a given, since DOSBox runs perfectly. The ones that are a little trickier still usually work after some small tweaking.

Each game has the compatibility displayed on GOG. But mind you that these games were made many years ago and that GOG guys can't possibly QA to all the modern variations of todays hardware/software. That said I haven't yet encountered a GOG game that failled to run on my PC. If you have any problem try first on GOGs forums where there are always super helpful people helping troubleshoot any problem other users come through. I always use the example of an user that created an hi-res patch for Outcast only for the hell of it to help others play the game in more current screen resolutions. Do it! ;)

Had it as a PS1 classic on my PSP. Played the crap out of that game.

Ah, and I just bought Fallout 2 a couple days ago...

Ah well, they deserve the moneys, it was still much cheaper than on Steam and I did get the first for free...

Should I get Tactics?

Fuck, I'll never finish another game again at this rate, so many RPG type games to start <_>

Has Independence War II ever been on sale? I had it from some random magazine but can't find the disc.

Does anybody know if they are planning on getting the Wizardry games? I've been wanted to play my copy of Wiz 8 for the longest but my CDs are borked. They stopped working after I installed it for the 100th time.

GOG could save me with this one.

I think I got my fill with the last Interplay sale, honestly.

I mean, there are a few things I could pick up, I guess, but here's why I'm hesitant:

 • Fallout Tactics (I'd like to get further into Fallout [1] or even START Fallout 2 before I jump into another)
 • Earthworm Jim 1&2/3D (I actually already own all of these, which is the primary reason I'm not biting, but they're not really definitive versions of the first two, anyway (EWJ1 is missing Intestinal Distress and Big Bruty, IIRC, and EWJ2 is definitely missing Lorenzen's Soil), and EWJ3D is so friggin' difficult, and not in the good sense either)
 • Freespace/Freespace 2 (I know these games are excellent, but I'm not convinced space sims are a genre I'll take any interest in; at least with Descent it can be argued that it's just the classic Doom formula with another dimension added to it, but Freespace doesn't strike me as anything like that)
 • Redneck Rampage (As much as I love Build shooters, the theme of this one's a bit of a turn-off, amusing though it is)
However, I heartily recommend both MDK games and the Descent series to anyone interested. Freespace, too, although I've never played it; I've heard that's very very good.

Fallout 2 bought to replace my discs.

Freespace 2 bought because people are always going on about it and because I've never played a space sim in my life.

Stonekeep bought because of my newfound love for first person dungeon crawlers. Most excited about this one!

Lands of Lore 1 is the much better choice! Stonekeep is good, but it requires more nostalgia and is super-campy (which can be a plus I guess). I'm a fan of Stonekeep, but it has its opposition.

They sure would like to but they're owned by a japanese company that's still making tons of wizardry games.

Yeah I don't think it's a good game. The visuals (which were middling at release due to delays) aren't a problem now (since everything is old) but the gameplay has serious issues on a lot of fronts. I keep thinking I need to reinstall and just play with my ipad opened to Gamefaqs so I can see the whole thing without getting totally mangled.
I really want to try Messiah, but the more I read about it the less appealing it sounded.
It's a decent concept (although done before in Requiem Avenging Angel due to Messiah being delayed) but the visuals are kinda bleh, particularly once you get past the start (aka demo) area, and the platforming is jank city.

Tim Curry can be your boss and it plays at modern resolutions (except the intro menu).

Did you ever play the Battlezone remake? It's kinda like that. Great game.

Battlezone remake as in the one with the RAVE GUN in the tutorial level? That game rocked my socks when I was a kid. That + Tim Curry. Bought!

So, out of the Interplay sale, which ones are worth getting?

I already have:

Descent 3
Fallout
Fallout 2
Freespace 2

I'm thinking of getting at least 2-3 games, so which are the best ones to get?

From Phaidox in GOG forum, GOG strikes another deal!

We are pleased to announce the start of a partnership with GOG.com - the excellent service with
cheap, legal and DRM-free PC classics.

Since our goals are convergent with bringing old PC games into life, we agreed almost instantly when they
asked us about using nGlide in their releases.

Our partnership means several good things:

•more 3Dfx games in GOG.com catalog in the future,
•more 3Dfx games compatible with Windows XP or later,
•more 3Dfx games compatible with Glide Wrappers, thus with nGlide, so you can play them in HD.

... and that's not everything.

You can now support nGlide development with buying GOG.com games!
Just click the GOG.com banner in the top/bottom of this article or the GOG.com button at the main nGlide page.
http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide

You will be redirected to GOG.com. Register new account there and buy some games.
A share of the proceeds will be sent for nGlide development.
So, don't hesitate. Get some games and help nGlide last much longer!
Thank you in advance!

...and here's their compatibility list at the moment.

Edit: Wrong link. Fixed!

I don't quite get the significance. Are there games that only supported GLIDE - not Direct3D or OpenGL - or something? My knowledge of running late-'90s PC gaming is a bit shaky, admittedly.

Also, your forum topic link and your compatibility list link are one and the same. EDIT: k, that's fixed

Anyone - and I do mean ANYONE who hasn't got Freespace 2 yet, get it. Not the original game, because you can get that for free, remade and upgraded. Freespace 2.

With just a couple of clicks and a single download, you can upgrade it from this to this.

The FSOpen installer comes with an upgraded Freespace 1 camapaign, and the Silent Threat expansion completely rebuilt from the ground up, as it was kinda lame when it first came out. And about a dozen of the best fan-made campaigns, some of them as long as Freespace 2. Some longer, even. And there's dozens more after that.

Freespace 2, Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 and Theme Hospital bought.

Love the DRM-free GOG games as I can install on my laptop so my wife can also play.

Skimming the videos here, am I alone in thinking the former, original form is more aesthetically appealing than the latter, modified form? The second video is so desaturated as to be ridiculous. There are four colors in the entire video: black, white, a sort of cyanish-blue and the occasional flash of red when the ship gets hit. Meanwhile, the former video had big purple and blue space clouds with lots of neon lasers streaking through it.

Went and bought Freespace 2. No plans to play it right now, need to get joystick (yes, it can be played without but it is a space sim). And once i get a new computer. Then i can finish my GOG collection of games (Gothic 1-2, Fallout 1-2, Thief 1-2, Freespace 2).
