Sager has their new notebooks in stock.

Going with the NP9150:

Highlight:
• Future Intel® HM77 Chipset - capable support for 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ processors
• 2GB GDDR5 nVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M GPU with Optimus Technology capable
• Up to 32GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory capable
• Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT) capable
• Full size Backlit Keyboard

I think it's still not fully updated though because it lists the 675m as standard, but makes you upgrade for $100 to it on the customize page.

Glad it's out, now time to save up a few more bucks for it.

Looking at my very first laptop, for school this fall.

Don't play a ton of games anymore, but I have quite a few titles on my Steam account from when I had a working desktop.

How likely is it that something like an off-the-shelf Staples or Best Buy laptop (~$600-$700) will play something like Fallout New Vegas?

Or is there something from a place like NCIX or TigerDirect (Canada)?

shameless bump.

If anyone could point me in a direction it'd be much appreciated.

Leaks:

Stolen Alienware M17x R4

GTX 680M vs GTX 580M. doesn't say much, other than there's about a 35% improvement in 3DMark11

Specs are supposedly GK106, 768 shaders, 256-bit GDDR5, 4GB RAM

Dell is supposed to be announcing some stuff this week.

The new Clevo 11.6" ultraportable gamer is here. That's an amazing price, imo, seeing as how the GT 650M is as fast as the GTX 560M, and it's supposed to be shipping with quad cores, once ivy bridge arrives.

This will do, but if you don't absolutely need it in the fall, you might as well wait for the newer stuff.

Amazon's listing for the upcoming Asus G75.

I hear it will be around $1450.

Hey my current laptop is a pile of shite, I was trying to hold out and buy a MacBook once the new lineup comes out, but I can't even get uni wok done on my current laptop.

http://www.ebuyer.com/344029-acer-aspire-5750g-laptop-lx-rmx02-019

Is this laptop any good, if not can anyone suggest an alternative, I play games occasionally on PC, and I wanna get the new amnesia when it comes out.
That looks very good for the price.

looks good but i think i'll stick with the sager with the GTX 675m...

edit: assuming the GTX675 is better. lol nvidia naming conventions
GTX 675M = GTX 580M (yes, exactly the same card, just a rebrand)

The 675M, or whatever we want to call it, is faster than the 660M. The latter is looking to be around the speed of the GTX 570M, a card which the GTX 580M trounced by nearly 30%.

From Nvidia, the GTX 680M and semi-confirmed 685M are all that's worth waiting, if you want a high-end machine. Otherwise, jump in now, while the GTX 675M is going for peanuts.

Microsoft store has g75 list at $1800 :/

I found it here. Not sure how reliable that is though, but a couple tech sites have linked me to it.

I'd buy this to ditch my 14" Lenovo if it got quad-core processor. Of course, I'd want to know how it handles thermal exhaust.
I've seen proof that a Taiwanese tester has one of the latest revision test machines, with the 35W i7-3612QM quad core installed. They even tested out the extreme 3920XM, but that one got pretty hot under load.

It's still important for me to say that we're not yet 100% that Clevo will ship with quads, even though they plug in and work.

Yeah, I've seen that. I think all the tech sites basically reposted the one article that linked to that one site to preorder from. Actually there are two in the article. The MS store is the latest one though that popped up a couple days ago around the time PAX was ending I believe.

My sony laptop has i7 M620 CPU and GT330M graphics card. I was wondering if it will be able to run Diablo 3. I don't need super high settings, but I don't wanna be running at the lowest setting either.

I don't wanna get a new laptop/computer to run Diablo 3...but I might have to..

It should, how does that card hold up to the HD3000? cos it runs on anything with one of those decently.

I am in the beta and find it's very scalable, it's not the retail build either which will be even more optimized.

My m11x with a Core 2 Duo + GT335M ran Starcraft II fine. I'm sure a much faster CPU and a slightly slower GPU will also be perfectly fine.

^^ Damn!!! Should I pick this up? I'm looking forward to playing a lot of Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2 can this play those 2 games on max/high setting? Should I get a Sager/Clevo instead? I need help! This is going to be my first gaming laptop.

Edit: Damn $1,579.81 with tax. Is newegg going to get the Asus G75?

I'm curious about the speed of the new processors that are coming out at the end of the month.

How much faster will they be than the current processors?

I'm will be using my laptop for some PC gaming(mainly older games, maybe Diablo 3, though I feel like I will use my gaming PC for Diablo 3), but mainly emulation, streaming and processor heavy tasks.

I had bought a Dell laptop with 8600GT (when it was the shit!), and I barely used it for PC gaming, so I figure I want to go processor heavy for my new laptop this time.

So I'm curious as to how much faster the new processors are going to be compared to the current mobile i7.

Hey K.Jack, what's your opinion on this one?

I have an N53SV which I'm gonna give to my dad, and I'm thinking of getting that one. Do you think it will allow me to play games like The Witcher 2 EE, Shogun 2, Batman AC, Max Payne 3... you get the idea, at 720p with all effects settings (except AA) at their highest? As for AA, the new Nvidia driver FXAA is good enough for me.

Well the GTX 6675M is already the much stronger option than the 660M, and whispers are saying the AMD 7970M is coming to the Clevo around the 30th of this month, so the Asus is going to be far outclassed by the other machine.

Nothing major. Maybe 10-20% improvement, clock for clock. The greatest improvement is in the greatly reduced power consumption.

Gaming will still be greatly dependent on GPU horsepower.

Well it will play games as well as the GTX 560M does now, and at 720p that equates to comfortable gaming at very high settings.

What's the price on that one?

There's no price yet as Asus have not officially announced it. It's not even on their site. But I'm thinking it will be around the same price as the N53 I have was when that was released, around 1000 euros.

Well I don't think it takes much for Diablo 3. I can max it out on my Asus g74 no problems so the newer ones should have no issues I would think. BTW, the g74 has a 560m w/ 3gb if you didn't know. The g75 has 660m with 2gb afaik. I'm not sure how these would compare tbh.

Well seeing how I can max out Diablo 3 with my g74 I don't see why g75 couldn't :)

i looked closely at the two and am going with a sager for sure. there are some trade offs, but I just want the better graphics card.

That Sager 11.6" looks really incredible for the price. Though I don't know how I feel about how small it is.

I bought this earlier in the week: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005UUSI1S/?tag=neogaf0e-20

i7 2670QM
6GB DDR3
GeForce GT 540m
640GB HDD

I feel like maybe I should have waited a bit... But I'm really happy with it. I paid around $740 (w/ next day shipping). It'll hold me over for a little while. Pretty decent deal.

Thanks for the help! Damn I guess I should go for the Sager/malibal laptops(but which one should I get hmm)? I want a gaming laptop that can last for a long time. So are these clevo machines reliable, and do they overheat fast?

So why not just wait till summer for the 680m? :) The 670 and 675 are just renamed 570/580's respectively afaik. In the end I guess it doesn't matter as you'll have no trouble playing games regardless lol. I guess at some point you have to stop waiting and just pull the trigger and get something :)

Not bad. The one thing that would put me off on that from purchasing is the 1366x768 resolution but that's only because I program and having something like eclipse open on that resolution is a pain to deal with but for gaming...yeah that will work for most games. My old laptop was an i5 with 540m and played everything including bf3 at medium. Nice find...can't complain for the price.

Decided on an M11x once I find out what they are doing Ivy Bridge wise, happy to wait until June / July if needs be but the build quality on the R3 model is just so good.

I have to ask, have you ever gamed on an 11 inch screen? I have an Asus netbook that is 12" and the keyboard is very cramped and tiny. Took a while to get used to it. And of course the screen is very small. 11" is just a bit larger than an iPad when you think about it. Are you OK with that? For the price of Alienware you can get something much better.

For me personally, gaming on the m11x was fine. I used an external mouse, the keyboard wasn't too small, and I was close enough to the screen that the size didn't matter.

Yeah I played on a friends R2. It's fine for me as I only play in bursts as it is, plus with HDMI out it can hook into my 21" screen as well an still run most games at a good res.

That plus as SSD would be amazing. I'd even replace the 640GB HDD entirely if the SSD was at least 180 GB. I'm way too spoiled by the speed.

Well, waiting a few weeks would have gained you 2-3x the graphics power (GT 640M or 650M), in the same relative price range (sub $1k). Such an equipped machine would bring 2 more years of comfortable gaming, than what you bought.

My gut feeling is that you should consider an upgrade, but it comes down to if you're willing to wait and whether you can spend an extra ~$150 to gain that performance.

yeah, when the 680m is coming out, there will be another thing worth waiting for just a few months out and so on into infinity :)

my understanding is that hardware is handily outpacing software at this point, so i'm not too worried.

It's far from as simple as "wait for the GTX 680M", because of the potential price.

If Nvidia follows the structure they've held for the last 5 generations of mobile GPUs, the 680M will cost a massive amount of upgrade $$$ in the configurator.

The 485M was + $495 from the 460M and + $245 from the 6970M (which itself was + $250 over the 460M), and the GTX 580M was I think + $375 from the 6990M.

Both the 485M and the 580M cost $800 or more, as an aftermarket upgrade, while the 6970M and 6990M came in at $550.

Someone has done the math, and concluded that the rebranded 675M's massive price drop has brought it down to about $350. That means, if Nvidia charges its usual insanity, the 680M could be a + $400 or more upgrade over the 675M.

Yikes.

Fortunately AMD doesn't violate us quite as hard. Rumore has it the 7970M might make an appearance before the month of April ends. Grain of salt on that one.

Hi Team!
Long time follower, first time poster on this thread.
I would really appreciate your help finding the right laptop for me. I want to do gaming on it, but it will mostly be GOG.com stuff. But I do want to play The Witcher 2 on at least medium settings, to see what I missed in PC RPGS. So I guess that can be the water mark? I have a nice sized screen I can plug through a VGA port, but the screen should be good enough to play games for apart from the monitor. Optical media preferred but not necessary. And here's the kicker, I want this to cost $600 + or - $100. I am sorry if I come off as an ignorant doofus, I converted to Consoles in '06 and lost the lingo and technical savvy of the master race.

TLDR: A laptop that allows me to play the Witcher 2 at decent settings, but affordable and with a nice screen and resolution. I want a GPU that plays current games, but doesn't have to be future proof (lol like there is such a thing).

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can muster,

malingenie

No laptop for 500-700 can play Witcher 2; that game is one of the most graphifically demanding games to date. To have a chance at playing Witcher 2, look for a laptop with GT 650m or of higher performance. I doubt that kind of graphics will reach 30fps on 1080p though. You will need to invest much more than ~$600. Try looking at those Sager notebooks with GT 670/675. They will cost between $1100-1500 depending on model and customization. Other than that, you're better off with a desktop. Why do you need a new laptop?

My Sony VAIO does not like Minecraft. Fan increases to crazy speeds and then it crashes. But I would think this laptop should be more than capable ...

Just got myself a nice laptop that can play games (not the main reason). So I'm looking through my gigantic list of steam games - which I play on my desktop pc with mouse/keyboard or 360 controller - and I'm wondering what games are going to work with just a keyboard/trackpad combo.
So what are you guys playing on your laptop without using external devices like mice/gamepads?

1. What are the specs of your VAIO?

2. Have you checked the temperatures, while gaming? Run HWMonitor in the background to see where they max.
So what are you guys playing on your laptop without using external devices like mice/gamepads?
Games I've finished solely with the touchpad:

Alpha Protocol
Borderlands
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
Dead Space
Dragon Age
Dragon Age Awakenings
Front Mission Evolved
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
S.P.A.Z.
Space Rangers
Space Rangers 2
Space Siege
Dawn of War + Expansions
Dawn of War 2 + Expansions

And this is only what I've played to completion. It would be twice as long if I added games from my backlog such as FEAR, Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, Metro, Fallout 3/NV, etc...

I don't play any multiplayer outside of RTS though.

I should also add that no one around me understands how I can play so well. I dunno.

I preordered the Asus G75 from Amazon a few days ago for $1,451.03, but today I noticed a new Sager notebook called the Clevo W150ER.
Sager: http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np6165-clevo-w150er-p-4344.html
Asus: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007MW73C2/?tag=neogaf0e-20

For $1451.03, ASUS G G75VW-AS71 comes with:
- 17.3" FHD (1920*1080) (Glossy)
- Intel Core i7-3610QM (2.3GHz)
- Nvidia GTX 660M 2G GDDR5 w/ Optimus
- 16GB DDR3
- Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB 7200RPM
- DL DVD±RW/CD-RW
- Backlit Keyboard
- 8.7 pounds (without power adapter)

For $1059.00, Clevo W150ER will come with:
- 15.6" (1920*1080) Matte 95% Color Gamut Display
- 3rd Gen Quad Ivy Bridge (when it comes out)
- Nvidia Geforce GT 650M 1.0GB GDDR5 w/ Optimus
- 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
- 720GB 7200RPM
- DL DVD±RW/CD-RW
- Weighs 6.17lbs (without power adapter)

I'm wondering whether I should cancel my order from Amazon to get this Sager notebook. It costs $400 less, after student discount ($1048.41), weighs 2 lbs less and comes with a Matte Display. If I go the Sager route, then I'll get a SSD to store Windows into. I may not get as much graphical performance from 650M compared to 660M, but I heard the difference is minimal. I know I'm comparing a 15" to a 17", but I really need a laptop soon and Amazon only have the Asus 17" model available. My school already provided me a copy of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, so that's money saved for OS.

What do you guys think?
