Does gog charge to download their games now? I checked my checking account, and it showed I had a single charge for $0.08 from gog.com. I'm not entirely sure, but I think it was from the same day I downloaded one of the games on my account to my desktop.
I believe it's an international tax, they ARE run by a Polish company afterall.

Not sure it's that either.

6. What are your prices in different countries?
Our prices are always the same, worldwide. It doesn't matter whether you live in the sunny Bahamas (lucky you!) or some place where polar bears roam the streets, it's always in USD either $5.99 or $9.99 per game. Our company is based in Europe and VAT/tax is included in the games' prices. This means that GOG.com will always charge you $5.99 or $9.99 per game.

However please be advised that we are based in Europe and have no control over your bank's additional international/card transaction fees (where applicable). Most banks don't charge their customers extra, but if you use funds already present on you PayPal account to buy games on GOG.com, you will be able to avoid any such additional costs.

7. What about VAT / sales tax?
All the prices shown on our page are inclusive of value added tax (VAT) and sales tax. So it's always $5.99 or $9.99 per game, no additional costs!

Is it possible it's a foreign transaction fee? I know I got charged with additional charges when I used my CC to purchase from GOG (which I called the CC company and had them refund), and since then I just use Paypal since they don't have any foreign transaction fees.

Edit: Or not... perhaps just email / start a support ticket with GOG.

After looking at my account again, I'm betting it was my credit union charging me for foreign purchase stuff. The price and the date make sense in that way. That's weird, since they've never done it before.

Argh...

Do Giants and Freespace 2 work on Windows 7 64? The game pages on gog don't specify that they do, but they work on Vista so I assume compatibility mode would make them run?

Edit: According to the Gog forums they both do. Bought :)

I finished Giants on W7 64bit without issues. Freespace 2 runs as well, but I haven't got around to more than initial testing to see if it runs. I would assume that it does without problems as well.

I believe EWJ1 does not, but I know EWJ2 does. And yes, the first game is the DOS port, not the excellent Win 95 version (Lord knows if that'd even work on Windows 7 anymore).

My original CD actually does (as does Pitfall), with judicious use of compatability settings. I'd have rebought in a heartbeat if the GOG.com versions were the Windows special edition ports. I assume the DOS versions don't have Big Bruty or the secret exit in Tube Race?

The registry check to get the CD key for the Steam version worked fine for me.

Really? I never managed to get EWJ for Win95 to work in Vista, I believe... Pitfall I did get to run, but windowed only, which isn't much fun. It's the same story for Sonic & Knuckles Collection for the PC -- it runs, but in a window only. I need fullscreen for this kind of game.

EWJ2 for DOS was based on the SNES version, I believe, but they did add in CD audio music and some graphical improvements, but one level was removed. EWJ1 for Win95 is of course an enhanced port of the Sega CD version. EWJ1 for DOS is indeed on the SNES or Genesis version I'm pretty sure, so yeah, no additional level.

Oh, and the DOS version actually released after the Win95 version, too -- EWJ for Win95 was a very early Win95 game, released in 1995, while the 1&2 collection was from 1996. Of course, while its version of EWJ1 is worse, and it's not the best version of EWJ2, it IS two games for one price, which made it a good value at least...

Put in my serial and downloading now. Hopefully it'll already be the EE and I wont have to get anything else. Not sure why 2.0 autopatcher is listed under bonus content though.

It definitely lacks Big Bruty, although I always hated that stage so it's no skin off my back. However, I don't even think it has Intestinal Distress!

EWJ2 is also missing Lorenzen's Soil, which is a shame because that's a pretty cool stage, and it's in literally every other version (Genesis, SNES, Saturn and PlayStation, they've all got it) - no idea why it got axed. Ironically, this DOS version that doesn't include Lorenzen's Soil uses a artwork of said stage as the boxart for the two-pack. Smart.

Be relieved. It is. I just finally got done with the DL and merge and install. I swear, the merge took about 1/3 the time of the DL. Took long. Glad I finally pulled it down after retrieving my key from the registry as my boxed retail version is in storage out of state.

So after downloading it and installing it and starting it up....

I don't have a "Serial" registry entry.

I'll just email support tomorrow with screengrabs of the steam receipt I guess.

I'll look into my settings for EWJ later on - I'm pretty sure I could only run it in a maximised window, though. :/

I love the Win95 version of Pitfall, no other version matches it. I think it's an absolute gem of a game. The MCD port has the awesome soundtrack but lacks the higher colour graphics.

The official Gog topic is the best place to get information, hope someone can help :)

Can i update the Witcher 2 to enhanced edition offline?

I mean, i have patched the game by just downloading the patches and running them while offline. I haven't used the in game option to update.

So is there a place to download the enhanced edition installer?

It's really nice of them to increase the price to celebrate the release of this free update...

All they've done is given more value to the people who have supported them.

Everyone hates that the cable companies give the best deals to newcomers, giving loyal customers absolutely nothing for being loyal. CD Projekt has completely flipped it.

Sure, it sounds silly on paper, but it's a smart idea, especially to subsidize the new content they've made.

As amusing as it would be if this were the case, there IS that lawsuit with Namco Bandai that wrecked CD Projekt Red's attempt at keeping prices uniform across the world in this case. I wouldn't be surprised if Namco Bandai (and maybe WB) wanted the price raised because of the EE and 360 port.

http://en.thewitcher.com/ee_manual/ here's all the files. Make sure you download atleast the english voiceover files, INCLUDING the installer of the voiceover section. This way you can manually install it. Haven't tried it offline so can't say for sure.

Jesus Christ, it's 8 CENTS. If it happens again, it's 16 CENTS. Stop thinking about it so much.

Ultima 8: Gold Edition released today, leaving just Ultima 9 from the series left I believe. Was looking over a few of the posts from around the Ultima 7 release, and this one stuck out:

I got pretty far in U9 back in the day. It was awful. It's not just bad for Ultima, it's bad for everything. This great series ending with that turd was practically criminal.

Never played much Ultima, but too bad it concludes in such poor form.

Yaska for the money! Thanks so much for pointing me out in the right direction.

Edit: 15 GB for the EE? Is this correct? It's as big as the whole game!

SO how much is Witcher 2 full installation now, 25 GB? Rage seems like a small fry now.

If you download from gog.com you get the whole EE (standard game plus EE) for 15GB. The EE patch alone was about 10 GB but overwrote quite some files. So the final game is about 15 GB afaik. (Still downloading haven't installed yet).

Ultima 8 was way more controversial back in the day. U9 had bugs and run terribly on most systems at the time but I wouldn't really call it "bad for everything". Been a long time since I played it though.

Actual instal is 22.5GB according to the GOG installer.

So im a bit confused now masterkajo and sober. Isn't the files for the manual installation at this site: http://en.thewitcher.com/ee_manual/
just for the Enhanced Edition? Or what masterkajo is suggesting is that instead of downloading the patch for manual installation i just redownload the game from gog again because it will take more or less the same amount of work?

Yeah, Ultima 8: Super Avatar Bros. was definitely the more controversial Ultima game. Ultima IX was just a buggy mess that could've and should've been awesome.

Controversial as in whether or not it was good, or controversial as in just a lot of people really hating it? Atlhough this does remind me of Dragon Age 2 and maybe the latter two Mass Effect games...
