Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

At least THEY acknowledged it and apologized for it. Microsoft sure didn't.

It's a momentum thing. Nintendo was already on the "Hey, we're not for you" end of the spectrum for a large number of gamers, and that E3 made them more the enemy.

Microsoft was the super shooter sports system seller, so their terrible and disrespectful E3 just edged them closer towards neutral territory. They'd have to have a few in a row before people stop giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I don't remember the apology. That sounds nuts.

Iwata said:
"We are sorry about [the E3] media briefings, specifically for those who were expecting to see Nintendo show something about Super Mario or Legend of Zelda"

"If there is any perception that Nintendo is ignoring the core gamers, it's a misunderstanding and we really want to get rid of that misunderstanding by any means. The so-called big titles need a long, long development period...we really didn't think this year's E3 media briefing was the time to do so."

.

4 player local with 4 subscreens will be insanely awesome. I'm copping 3 with my Wii U if possible right away, regardless of cost.

Let's say you're camping in a spot picking off the other 3 players. You turn on "Camp Mode" and your slot on the TV Screen goes completely black. You play using the subscreen alone, and since you're camping no one can check your screen. Aww yeah.

Here's a quick diagram of my idea i made on ps

For a FPS game.

This is what I want but with 4 controllers if possible. I know it won't happen though =/

In hindsight I'm glad we haven't had any big Wii U news or showings since E3 last year and that no first party game has been officially shown or announced. It'll make it that much more exciting and I think Nintendo will really bring the goods this year.

If you can render 4-way split screen, then the rendering cost of sending a quarter of those pixels to a subscreen (or to each subscreen) is virtually nothing, and you won't lose any rendering quality.

Everything after the initial showing of "Natal" in 2009 has been a disaster. Hat trick this year? Probably more appropriate to call it a turkey.

seriously :(

I wonder if the generation after WiiU will have a console that is powerful enough to stream 4 controllers

when I first saw the Upad all I could think off is 4 players I never thought about it as single player at all even though I don't have gamer friends but some of my best gaming experiences has always been Mario Kart with a friend and GoldenEye

You're right. I just don't think third parties are gonna go for it because they're going to assume most homes will only have 1-2 tablet controllers if the cost of the controller itself is high.

I think it's possible now. Like GameplayWhore said if they're already able to render 4-way split screen on a television it shouldn't be a problem doing so on 4 Wii U pads. I'm just worried that due to costs most developers won't support it.

Curious, does Nintendo have any policies against sexual content that would stop games like GTA 5 and Witcher 2 coming to Wii U?

It's an interesting story how the creators of BMX XXX had to censor the bare breasts on the PS2 version (at Sony's request) but not the GameCube version. Nintendo's been pretty laissez-faire about this sort of thing for a long, long time.

Hey, can anybody think of the last game (that wasn't, like pornographic or otherwise way past the line that other system makers would consider censorable) that Nintendo specifically requested a game to be altered like this? It wasn't Manhunt 2, that was the ESRB and BBFC.

Was it like… the blood to sweat thing in that Street Fighter (or was it Mortal Kombat?) game for the SNES? Because that was a while ago.

Erm, I'm talking about how the general gaming public sees the companies. It doesn't matter if you don't like it; Microsoft doesn't have to apologize because there isn't a big furor over it. They just mostly thought it was kind of annoying and are waiting for Microsoft to get back to normal.

Nintendo's E3 Conferences after 08 kept improving, 09 was better, 10 was an absolute blast and 11 was decent.

Microsoft at E3 2009 and 2010 was pretty much identical. It was the same thing. Literally. I don't see this year improving things, but who knows. Nintendo got out of that hole, Microsoft can.

Maybe they'll feature Snake in Kinect Adventures 2.

Then MGS5 will be PS4 exclusive. Kojima wins again!

Yeah, I think the poor sales of the SNES Mortal Kombat made them realize that it wasn't worth it. Ah, how great Mortal Kombat II on the SNES was. Fantastic not to have to sacrifice superior sound and graphics just to experience the game as the designers intended. :D

It's bandwidth and lag that will be the sticking point with streaming to 4, getting round that as well as keeping them all in sync will be a nightmare. The chipset just supporting multiple displays isn't enough, it's whether it can be implemented well enough. Especially if Nintendo want to keep 60fps.

However supporting item/weapon/play select with 4 pads can be easily done as you just fire alternate frames to each pad. Responsiveness of the screen update is less crucial then.

I don't know. It has peoples expectations unreasonably high. There's no way they can deliver.

This was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the controller. "Split screen is dead! 4 player local MP, everyone gets a screen to themselves!"

Apparently, a lack of processing power won't allow that. But for everyone saying "They won't do it because controllers are too expensive!" Well...

I don't remember anyone ever talking like that about GBA connectivity. Nintendo didn't expect you to buy more than one GBA, did they? It was always a matter of "Well, if your have a friend with a GBA, you have access to some extra, neat features." Why can't the same apply with multiple Wii U controllers?

I just got my time machine working which task should I do first guys?

A) Should I go forward and bring you the specs for WiiU vs Next Gen Consoles

or

B) Go back and make sure Nintendo and Sony play nice and we have had our Nintendo Playstation in our one glorious console history? I am currently playing a mature looking Mario searching for lost treasure in Uncharted Bros 6 on 3DVita

so which do you want see the future of Nintendo or change the past?

:P

Unlike Nintendo though in 2008, Microsoft is happy with their showings. They're not gonna do them any differently until Kinect stops selling. I don't think this year is going to be any different to the last two, it'll be the same right down to the Dance Central and Kinect Sports demos.

Go forward. I'll censor myself on option B.

Yeah, it only occurred to me earlier today, after months of apparently not thinking at all, that they could get around the speed issues by simply sending at a lower frame rate.

Has Microsoft ever apologized for any of their gaming faux pas? I can't remember.

Yeah with just interface you can do some nice tricks as well, such as only updating a pad's screen when it needs to be. Such as when someone selects something.

You'd only get a delay then in the screen updating if all 4 people happened to do it at the same time, which is very unlikely.

It's constant streaming to more than 1 where you run into problems, and the reason why any demonstrations were completely absent last year.

I would love to see it set up such that you could bring your controller over to a friend's house, and it would remember your saved game or your profile or preferences for a local multi-player gaming session.

It's a small detail, but it would be very much appreciated.

how did House Of The Dead: Overkill end?

Long time since I played it, but I seem to remember it involved a character's mother turning into a giant demon. After the character kills her, he feels guilty and returns to his now dead mother's womb by crawling inside her corpse.

Someome, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I suppose, but my impression is that a lot of people have low expectations after last year's showing. But would anyone really be disappointed if we see Retro's game, Pikmin 3, a Mario game, new games by Good Feel and Monster Games (I like to think they're making Yoshi's Island and one of 1080, Wave Race or F-Zero respectively), Wii U Sports/Play/Fit, and maaaayyybe Eternal Darkness 2? And that's not including 3rd party games, 3DS, and a couple of other games they could show for Wii U, like EAD Tokyo's next 3D Mario.

I don't know, maybe my expectations/hopes are too high already.

I agree.

Expectations are really ridiculous now. People will label the e3 conference a fail if the Wii U doesn't turn water into wine.

I kinda think Nintendo was not minding those rumors about the U not being up to par with this current generation. The bar was so incredibly low at that point..
