Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

We said that last year. It was their show to lose... and they lost.

They lost? How so?

It certainly was better than MS's casual-fest and Sony's snooze-fest. We got introduced to a handful of really good looking 3DS games and were introduced to the Wii U. It's also the day that we realized Skyward Sword wouldn't suck.

Sure, they handled the unveiling kind of poorly, but it was still a fantastic show if you knew the Wii U was a new console and not a new controller.

Just because Nintendo didn't give us detailed specs and a bunch of gameplay demos of Wii U games at its unveiling doesn't mean they lost. They wanted to show us the concept of the system, and they did that wonderfully. Not to mention the Bird/Zelda demos looked amazing.

EDIT: Looking at this page, do people really unanimously agree that their show was weak last year? We got a new system and tons of new first party games. What more do you want?

Why is there a forum for a thread about this thread, posting here every second not enough for you? :lol

What the Wii U really needs is a Pocky machine.

Makes and disperses pockies. Never be hungry again while gaming.

Pocky is the best thing in the universe, true fact, look it up!

Not only did I show anybody I ever met that Pocky spot that was on IGN back then (the one with Aragaki Yui and Orange Range, it's the best), it's actually the boot-up vid on my Wii. I demand Pocky-Ambassador status!

Why this is relevant? Uhhhh...I know, Wii-U needs customizable Boot-Up vids (additionally to the music, and menus, hell make everything customizable darnit)!
Also why doesn't your Ava have the proper response to this thread anymore :lol

I still believe their hand was forced due to all the leaks, they couldn't really not unveil it, yet didn't actually have something to reveal, so what do you do? I think they managed OK.

Because...I wanted to m-flo/Verbal this place up.

I put a little more thought into Nintendos goal with the Wii U. And the solution is so simple. Its in the name itself.

Think about it... "Wii U" as in "We" and "You". This may be the reason why they try so hard to get the trademark issue resolved. Its about getting the company and the fans/customer interaction to another level.

I agree. I think Nintendo's online strategy is going to be built around social. It's going to be about taking the characteristics on local multiplayer and bringing them to online multiplayer. Less about e-penis, and more about gaming together.

Communities at the OS Level. Mii-chievments. In-game video chat. Pick up and Play multiplayer games like Find Mii. Live viewing of friends games. etc. etc. etc.

Anyone who was watching that conference and somehow thought it was only a new controller was NOT paying attention. I simply do not get how it could have been confusing.

Thing is, I'm already going into E3 knowing that Nintendo has won my heart.

They have already promised Mario and Pikmin 3.

Those by themselves have made me look forward to seeing Nintendo's conference. Anything else is just gravy.

I think that that was the first time where everybody tried to say, "no.. it's your turn to win. After you, my good sir. No, but I insist.."

Certainly funny around here. NeoGAF comedy was the winner that year. :)
Yeah that's one way of looking at it :lol

No but really, I was dissapointed by last years performance. I missed MS (which is a good thing in hindsight) and watched Sony in the middle of the freaking night. Uncharted 3 footage was pretty cool and the Vita pricing was pretty sweet, but overall I thought it was pretty mediocre. And Nintendo's presser started quite good with the Zelda overture, but overall it was a bit thin.

Best part about E3 last year was Zelda Williams shout out towards Chinner.

I'll have to second this. Another thing lost in E3 2011 discussion is the 3DS announcements, and Nintendo handled those beautifully with that crazy screen. Nintendo had more to show than just Wii U stuff.

You have a point, but when I look at the N64 VC for instance, I don't see much content out. There are quite a few titles missing from the N64 Library on the VC. I think they'll continue to push out content with the Wii U VC. We're missing quite a few good titles from all consoles available on the VC. Why haven't we gotten Earthbound or Mega Man X2 yet? They've had 6 years to release these titles, but they decided to not push VC as we had hoped.

I think now that they have increased the file size limitation on the 3DS we'll see something similar on the Wii U, so the possibility of full GC, Saturn and Dreamcast titles being released would mean they will have more quality content to push out. I don't see how this can possibly mean they'll blow out their load this generation if they'll be getting newer content.

I agree with your point about releasing original content, but I don't think original titles would take a hit by releasing VC titles.

So.
What, if anything, would put you off getting the Wii U?
Personally, I can't think of anything, unless the tablet has a 15 minute battery life or something stupid like that.

Yea, not really anything would get me to not buy it. I have decided that nex gen I'm sticking to one home console and my 3DS. So in cases like that it'll always be Nintendo that gets me.

I will not buy one until the following condition is met:

≤$250 || ( TimeSplitters 4 && ≤$300 ) || ( Electrostatic Haptics && ≤$350 )

So if the above never happens, then I will never buy it.

edit: I reserve the right to change this opinion, especially in the case of (A) my money situation altering, or (B) there being another surprise feature that happens to be MUST HAVE even though I never conceived of it before.

You can't really not buy Nintendo systems, damn their brilliant games. Money will decide the timeframe, that's the only thing. 'When' not 'if'.
Many seem to take a 'Wait&See ~Risk~' approach though, not sure if that's the best thing for Nintendo, but once they reveal the game-glory I guess we will topple and fall easily.

Wait, is the Tomato mentioned there the one who did some translations of old-ass games back in the day (maybe still)? I think he wrote something very gushing about Famicom Detective Club II which made me try it, and it's one of my favorite games ever!
Detective Visual Novel + Love Sim + Creepy Ghosts + Crossdressing, perfect game.
They should make more of those.

My Love Comes and Goes with Nintendo at times, but I have a Lotta Love for them. In the long run though, Nintendo, All I Want is You.

I swear we make the obscurest posts in this already pretty obscure thread, but pay attention kids, you can learn something about everything that is good in this world! ♪

An insane price tag for launch.
Overall: Nothing I can really think of. As long as it has amazing games I'll get one.

Being realistic, I don't see how they can screw this up. Especially if you're a Nintendo fan.

They may not be able to convert waves of people to their product, but they will definitely leave Nintendo fans frothing at the mouth.

Huh? Shitty online. Shitty third support. Presenting first party games that nobody cares about.

Edit: Thank you Anthony. Some of you guys are way too optimistic.

This actually reminds me of my biggest pet peeve with PS3. The controllers will not charge if the system is in standby. Here's hoping that this is not the case on Wii U. I know it's a minor issue, but it really is a huge pain in the ass when you realize your controller is dying mid-session and the only way to rectify the situation is plugging it in to the system w/ that short as hell wire.

E3 2011 was so boring to me. All the conferences stunk, hardly any new interesting games(Far Cry 3? That's about it, I think), trailers/interviews about games we already know or seen...just very predictable and by the numbers. And the Cafe/Wii-U reveal was confusing and obviously about a year away before real public consumption. Just disappointing all around.

Sarcasm aside, history has shown that instead of getting hyped, we should just fucking wait for the event to take place. You have people here already assuming that third party games announced for current consoles have WiiU versions that are just being NDA'd. Just setting yourself up for disappointment...God....

We don't know anything. Just wait for E3 or at least the investor conference. Stop hyping yourself up. You think Ninty fans would have learned a thing or two after all these years. At least on the console front anyway.

Some of us like the hype just for the sake of it and don't get so emotionally involved.

Second this! Sometimes I connect my ps3 controller with my console and leave for school and hope that it will be fully charged when I am back. But no! the thing is not going to charge itself unless console is on. I really hope U pad can charge separately, it will be so much more convenient.

It's a standard feature on most MBs these days so that should be possible.

A part of me really rolled over and died after all the hype about "Revolution", and the revelation about it's true capabilities and limits of the controller. A dream was crushed.

So I'm just trying to have fun with all this speculation. I enjoy the hype and laugh at the premise at the same time. And it's always nice to be among fellow Nintendo fans.

I agree with you.
I think the only way for Nintendo to get a semi-decent support is to charge half the licensing fees of MS / Sony for 3rd party games, some sort of cross promotion system using the mighty marketing muscle of Nintendo, or lending part of its IP to third parties (as they did with EA and Koei Tecmo)

This is Nintendo. You should already know B will happen.

Gamecube didn't have a "B". 3DS didn't have a very interesting "B" (streetpass/spotpass wasn't that compelling for me to jump in). Wii had a good "B" ("By the way, that remote we showed you a year ago? It knows where it's going"). DS had a good "B" ("By the way, that bottom screen? It lusts for you to tap it"). So Nintendo has a 50/50 record here in terms of features revealed well after the initial reveal of the system.

yeah what the shit.

people need to dial the crazy back a bit.

could you maybe move the fansite discussion to a seperate topic in the community forum? I don't want to offend you but it was already hard enough to follow the thread to get all the Wii U rumors / news. now for me who just wants to do this, it gets kind of pointless...

As someone who just read 30 pages with almost nothing on them .... Yeah, this thread is a little too nuts. lol

The majority of it sounds like it should go in the community side, with a generic "Nintendo discussion" label or something.
This thread is about 1 week old and is already at 7500 posts, or 38% capacity.

Hah, I meant in the other direction. I'm about to sink half my savings into a new (read: "less old") car, and I'm ~$100k in mortgage debt. And I don't play the lottery, so I'm not likely to suddenly find a million bucks lying around.

You're right - there are no third-party games in development for Wii U at all, beyond the handful of games announced last year and whatever exclusives will be shown at E3. There couldn't possibly be any other logical explanation behind the complete lack of retail Wii U announcements (the sole exception being DQX) since last E3.

I don't know how good the third-party lineup will end up being, and the platform will inevitably miss out on some multiplatform titles that it should be getting, but come on.
