Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

A localization company in Japan. Those guys make a podcast everyweek about Japanese games.
Like I said in the other message, I never really listen to them (don't care much personnally for Japanese games) but I keep hearing about it in all the "Best podcasts" threads.
Btw, if you haven't seen it, they visited the 8-4 studio back in October 2008

Allright, I could always use more podcasts to listen to, will give 8-4 a shot.
Question though, if you are not, you know, obsessed with japanese games is it still worth listening to? Do they only cover the japanese side of things or is it more of a general gaming podcast?
Don't get me wrong, I love me some japanese games, but I also care about everything else.

Saying 8-4 is only about Japanese games is like saying GAF is only about Japanese games. They talk a healthy mix of stuff. If anything it leans too much on western stuff given their location

Most of the games they talk about are stuff that comes out over here too. You just might just also occasionally hear a bunch about Monster Hunter or Love+. I've found that the hosts are entertaining enough that even if the game isn't that interesting to me I am still entertained.

I didn't even know they were on 1up. Either listened to it on the player on their site or through Instacast.
At some point or another, anyone leaving anything in the gaming industry is joining Giant Bomb.

I've finally become a Giant Bomb premium member. Now I have access to tons of subscriber videos, but I'm not really sure where to start. Are there any 'must watch' videos that you guys would recommend I should check out first?

We aren't merging with 8-4, just becoming their host/media partner. Don't interpret this as Giant Bomb starting a podcast network--there was simply an opportunity for 8-4 to join up with someone, I'm friends with those guys, and everyone at Giant Bomb loves that podcast. We'll definitely be doing stuff with them in the future, but all of that is up in the air.
As for Mark or someone Skype'ing into the Bombcast--well, you know how well Skype has worked for the podcast in the past.

Off the top of my head any of the old PC series videos are excellent and also it's been said before but the Phantasmagoria video is an absolute MUST, make it the first thing that you see.

Skype podcasts are just uncomfortable.
what do you mean? the lack of eye contact or just the lack of presence in the room?
Can't speak for Patrick, but the reason I'm unable to listen to Skype'd podcasts are the constant 'Are you going to talk? Should I talk?' micro-pauses that happen due to being unable to read everyone else's body language.
In-person there is a natural overlap that allow conversations to flow. Skype can't emulate this.

There have been podcasts I've listened to for years before someone mentioned using Skype and it being a real surprise to me. (GWJ being one)
